The fact that this can be used in clamshell mode makes it really interesting and unique. I'd never use a Surface-type 2-in-1 precisely because of how unstable they are on anything but a hard flat surface. Whereas _this_ should be as stable as a laptop. If only it came with an HX 370 or even a 7840...

I actually got a Surface Pro 11 and tried to love it, but its lack of “lapability” was a dealbreaker and I had to return it. This is 100% the superior form factor, but it’s too weak for my tastes, wish it had an HX 370

this is bad on the lap, I have a similarly size GPD laptop and you have to keep your legs glued to each other and it gets quite uncomfortable quickly

Thr OneXPlayer One-Netbook 5: 3-in-1 Mini Laptop is an interesting device because it is ultra portable and that says it all. To be able to take this device with you on the go and not have to worry about a bulky heavy device might be a godsend for some. On that basis alone, this is worthy of anyone's consideration. Thank you Andrew for bringing this device to the channel otherwise people might not even know that it exists! 👍😁

But if all you need is something portable with Windows to do the kinds of typical stuff you'd do on such a tiny PC, you can instead pick up something like a Chuwi Minibook X. Those routinely go on sale for between $260-$288 where I am, for a 10.1", 1080p, N100, 12GB RAM, 512GB SSD ultraportable laptop with great build quality and 2-in-1 capability.
I'm not sure the On-Netbook 5 is worth 4-5 times the price. Especially given that these tiny laptops are typically thermally constrained with more performant processors anyway.

Hi Andrew, You are the best. I was really waiting for someone to do a review on this mini laptop. I bought 3 months ago a device from One, namely Onexplayer 2PRO 32GB ram and 1 TB storage with AMD Ryzen 7840U CPU and magnetic keyboard included. I bought more to use it when I'm away from home (holiday) and I need a tablet to run civil construction rendering programs. This onexplayer 2PRO tablet is a real beast. I didn't know what this version of laptop one netbook 5 is like and taking into account that lately Intel has disappointed, I went for the AMD version. But now that I see you I can really say that it looks good, I'm curious what you think after using it for a longer period of time. Thx for the good review!

  • @sindrisuncatcher653

I love the form factor. The look and finish, the extreme portability without sacrificing ease of setup, it's even got halfway decent port selection in a time when a lot of ultrabooks seem to be dropping down to one USBC port and just expecting you to bring a hub everywhere or use bluetooth for everything.
But why does it seem like all these cool new mechanical designs always get paired with a 2-3 year old processor? I get that this isn't designed as a gaming rig or anything, but there've been some pretty big changes recently in thermal performance and battery life that you can see from the handheld market.
Or, if they give up on being a universal 'only device you need' role and focus on being the best in the ultraportable pseudo-tablet niche, they could switch to Snapdragon and get dramatic improvements to energy in exchange for losing compatibility with some things people probably aren't using it for anyway.
And as you say, it would have been nice to see a higher refresh rate on the screen. If you're operating by mouse and keyboard going above 60 fps has pretty small benefits, but in tablet mode it's very noticeable when the image is a fraction of a second behind your stylus or things you drag aren't quite matching your finger.
I know these are probably pretty small nits to pick, but if the machine is already over a thousand dollars, and you're putting that very nice exterior finish on and packing it with that much RAM and storage, it seems weird to not spend just a little bit more for things that could dramatically improve user experience. And if you're compromising on a few central components like that, it seems weird to pay for top-of-the-line everywhere else instead of making a more budget device overall.

I usually have a small windows device for traveling. For me, Androids or iPads are not enough for my use-cases. It doesn't need to have the best performance
But it gets very hard to get a proper small 10" device. I've had a YogaBook until the battery got too bad after 7 years. 3 months ago I've upgraded to a used Surface Go and absolutely love it. It is small, light, thin and very capable. 10" windows devices are IMHO very underrated for traveling.
But...the battery life is always kind of not competitive which is not ideal for the use case of these devices. I really hope that there will be new devices beeing released with snapdragon or maybe Intel core ultra 200...but I am kind of pessimistic. The market seems to be rather small...

  • @ccroy2001

I like really small Windows devices. I currently have a ThinkPad Nano and had a Surface Go3. The OneXPlayer is a much better computer than my Go was, 8x the storage and 4x the RAM! I'd love to have something like it for travel. The price is high, but remember with an iPad or Surface device the keyboard is an expensive extra cost.

Not really comparable to the Win Max 2. The WM2 has a much better SOC, dramatically better keyboard, much more IO, and a 64GB RAM option. It also doesn't overheat like Mix notebooks tend to do thanks to their reliance on Intel chips.

Silly comparison. This is a niche device made in small numbers and doesn't have the massive economies of scale. It's also a completely different use case. A macbook is useless if you care about gaming. And has no touch screen. MacBook has no two in one functionality at all.
This is an incredibly versatile device that's virtually impossible to replace. MacBook Air so useless at gaming or if you do any arts or need a tablet that you basically are required to get other devices to make up for that.

Have one and must say, not even close to being worth it. Poor thermal management keeps the fan spinning and the power very much throttled. TouchPad is at time unresponsive that an external mouse is required, and clicks go missing all the time. Takes two or three tries to power up and fingerprint reader takes about a min to be ready. Don't waste your time.
