Racist??I am graduate in Italy in medicine They laterally kill you if you are foreigner. They exclude me 3 times from specialization residency (that I have been through national examination) and I suffer horror years working with them insulted me all the time. I'm Italian (born and bred in Rome) and I'm currently spending my last two years of high school in Canada and honestly, coming here was shocking, it's crazy how accepting people are here. I can't thank you enough for addressing the racism issues in Italy, as, not only is there obvious racism, but there is plenty of subtle and "innocent" looking racism in Italy that completely gets ignored by people because of many's mindsets. I have heard and read many "harmless" jokes in Italy, and all they did was make most of my friends grow up racist and/or very prejudice towards other ethnicities or cultures. I wanna acknowledge the many people, some of my age group even, who have been doing work to make this better and honestly, I hope that throughout the rest of my life I'll see a change in Italian's people's mindset.

I completely agree with the xenophobia and racism. I have been in Italy for almost two years now and have countless times argued with public servants trying to be treated decently and to get them to their jobs. I have honestly never found this anywhere in the world, and I have lived in 8 different countries.

No one holds your hand, but if you want to go into surgery you can, if you want to go into the hospital and do practicals you can, you have to ask though, we're not spoon fed that's the difference

Hi, congratulations for the brilliant analysis, I agree with what you said. I am a doctor with a 30-years career and, if I may, I want to give you some advice and of course also give it to your followers: in the fifth-sixth year it would be useful to start practicing in a rescue association and get into ambulances, it helps a lot, and then choosing a non-university hospital to practice, a small hospital in a small town near the university, you learn much more. I also recommend coming to study in Italy because we are in shortage of doctors due to mistakes made by Governments in the past decades (limited number of access to the Faculty of Medicine and specializations). Thank you for your enthusiasm for my Country and your honesty in describing it. I wish you good continuation in your studies. In bocca al lupo!!
Good luck retaining anyone (you're gonna need it). Do you have any idea how we are treated by your country men and women? In class, in the library in the public sphere... Not to mention in the Hospital by patients and the rest of our colleagues? Take responsibility and make people feel welcome instead of throwing them to the wolves (as foreigners mind you) to fend for themselves.

What are the minimum grades you need to have obtained in the Advanced llevel,,/Edexcel to be eligible to apply to study medicine?
If I’m not mistaken - those really don’t matter. I did CAIE A Level and worked my butt off because I knew Medicine and Surgery is a competitive course to get into regardless of the university or country it’s offered in. I got ABBC if you were wondering. Then my parents suggested Italy because it’s inexpensive and a easy-to-get-scholarships country. The Italian embassy merely needs proof that I completed 12 years of education (it’s to make a DoV or something, I’m not too sure - my parents are dealing with those tedious tasks, I couldn’t be bothered). That’s it. That’s all my A Level qualification is to the Italian medical universities because the only thing that matters is the IMAT score - which will determine admission. I guess in a way I could have an advantage because the IMAT papers are conducted in conjunction with Cambridge Assessment Admissions Testing… and my A Level examination board was Cambridge Assessment International Education… so I do note many similarities in the exam papers when it comes to the styling of the questions. The IMAT is actually significantly easier than CAIE A Level, by the way.

hello, this may be random but I've just finished my A levels in the UK but is an EU national and I'm planning on taking the IMAT next week. just wondering how I can get the declaration of value despite the fact that we haven't been issued our A level certificate.
You can get a letter saying that the DoV is being process, you can enroll without it, but you won't be able to do any exams until you hand it one :)

@@SerraYi won’t be able to do IMAT without my A/L certificate? I have bad grades for my A/Ls so I’m planning to retake my A/Ls next year in August(that’s when they’re held in my country). The problem is the results might not come until December. Do you mean admission into an Italian university? If so, what I know is that you need to go the website of the university of your preference and follow their instructions regarding admission, they have info in english.
It's not racism but is a sort of of preventive alarm (prejudice) due the recent immigration. In fact 1/3 of crimes according to police data are committed by strangers despite they are only 8,5% (EU citizens and Asians included) and the large majority from determinated community not Eu and not from Asia.
39% of sexual assault are committed by strangers for example and so on (and the majority - 61% - from italians obviously because they are 91,5%)
That's why they watch over you or your friends suspiciously. But if they hear you speaking with french, spanish, german, english or american accent they immediatly stop to do this.
The non theorical application depends from the organization of the University where You are. Italian students know wich one choose for this aspects.

Difficulty level of imat ? Study guide please
I am a 5th year student in Italy and honestly it has been a never ending nightmare for me. I do not mean to offend anyone, I'm sure many others have had wonderful experiences. This here is just what I have experienced.
- It's incredibly racist, people will go out of their way to inconvenience you and treat you like shit.
- The systems like the post office, immigration office, communes and other government buildings are unimaginably disorderly, dysfunctional and borderline trying to fuck you over if you're not a local.
- Getting permessos, ISEE, health insurance, carta di identita, hell even your codice fiscale is traumatising. There is no communication between the different offices. Do not trust the documentation and rules for applications etc that you find online on the government websites because the people at the office will come up with documents that are not even listed/cannot be obtained by non EUs and ask you for those. You can show them the government sites and they'll just insult you and kick you out. (A Dutch Eu citizen friend of mine couldn't not open an italian bank account because the bank worker demanded she get a permesso di soggiorno ,which is ONLY for non EU people)
-Most (not all) landlords will not provide you with the required house documents/registered rental agreements that you will need for your permesso, carta di identita etc in order to evade tax, yes tax fraud by landlords is very common so it's very difficult finding a good house in your desired price range and location.
- The professors, imo from my experiences and experiences of my international friends from various med schools around italy, are pretty bad. Most of the profs have terrible English. A lot of them are racist and treat the English course students way worse than the Italian course ones. Very little professionalism (they freely use derogatory terms and insults like r*etard and very informal words and tone), low teaching standards, subpar education and no proper study structure. There's almost no accountability for their behaviour so this problem never gets fixed and students refrain from putting forth complains because that ends up as academic suicide.
- The exams are one on one oral so the difficulty level of exams for all the students is usually very different and almost always unfair depending on the prof. Chances are if you're a POC or visibly LGBTQ+ or the prof simply doesn't like your face that day, you'll probably get wayyyy more difficult questions or even failed on purpose. (I have seen people get the same question where one person passes with flying colours after answering barely anything and another giving a much better answer and still getting failed) And don't dare point out the unfairness of the professors because that's just a guarantee that you won't be passing that subject for atleast a couple of sems.
There are a few good, as in what's considered normal, professors though but they're a minority.
- As the video said, there's almost zero practical teaching, no cadavers and lab teaching either.
- Do not try to speak even the slightest bit of criticism about their food or culture etc, they will rage. At the same time expect italians to be freely insulting and condescending to your culture, country, food etc. Do not argue with them, they'll just go on to insult you more.
Imo, it's an amazing place to vacation but definitely not living long term.
Most of my international friends have quit because they couldn't bare to live and study here.
I stayed because i don't really have another option and have invested too much time and money here.
But hope mamy other people have had and will have better experiences than mine.

I am Italian and I live in Ireland Belfast, I can say that if you really want to talk about racism the Ireland is the same…jut more subtle….in my work place for instance, the locals when they come into the office, as soon as they hear my accent or skin colour will give their attention mostly if not 100% more to my local colleague….I could go on forever….
I’m black Irish and never experienced racism here we don’t tolerate it it exist here however it’s not systemic and here there is a saying that you cannot call yourself Irish and be racist at the same time
@@alivanessa134 but it's not systematic in Italy too, Italy is full of women in high positions etc. Again i have been living in Ireland for over 10 years both in the south and the north and subtle racisms do exists! I am sorry but this is my experience, shared from many other Italians i know living in Belfast. Now I am not saying it's at absurd levels it's more ignorance than anything else....but still, I have to deal with this every time I go to work!

I am a white Italian guy, even if not straight, so not a MBEB (Italian term).
Even if you speak Italian, if you're black you're gonna be discriminated against: I see it from a black friend born and raised in Italy, by her Italian mother. If you're, for example, from East Asian you're gonna get discriminated against too, but it's a little bit different. Black people in Italy usually come from Africa and, because of social problems (lack of working reception centers and difficulties into getting employed, for example), they end up resorting to petty crimes or even prostitution. Italians do have this image about black people, seeing them as dangerous, for example, but it's not the US, and it's not by any means easy to get killed by the police etc. It is not by any means an excuse, but it's to portray how you're gonna be seen, and I can imagine it's not fun in any way.
I can still tell you that there are exceptions, and you can find your own safe bubble even among Italian friends. I studied foreign languages in Turin, and my group consisted of a 2nd generation Vietnamese, one girl from Sri Lanka that could speak a bit of Italian but usually wrote messages in English, and other Italian girls. Furthermore, I befriended an Afghan guy and some Chinese girls while at univesity.
Am I an exception? Maybe, but just to tell you that there is hope, and you should take as a rule that Italy is a racist country, but not that you're gonna be alone and excluded.

It can b a silly question but can you say me that why does the completion of medicine in Italy takes 6 years when the theory based part is done in 4 yrs nd 1 year of internship which wud b total of 5 yrs..then why 6 years in Italy??please do say❤️
Theory is not done in 4 years, preclinical is done in 3 so there's a difference. Almost all undergraduate degrees will either be 5 or 6 years. Classically MBBS is a 5 year degree, with additional training required to obtain the MD title. In Italy we do an MD directly so it is 6 years.

I agree with everything that you say but it isn't true that Italian is a must and "no one speaks a basic level of English". Especially in cities such as Milan, people speak a really good level of English, maybe if you're talking to a 70-years-old man they won't talk in English, but young people really love speaking in English and talking with native speakers. I've lived in France and I can guarantee you that the level is much much lower there compared to Italy

I understand that we could get enough experience practically by being proactive but attending the classes of heavily theory things and then revising it do you get enough time to do these practical works beside the college by your own?? And do they offer to do these practicals easily if you want to do like don't they discriminate at that point maybe that's why you told you are lacking the practical knowledge and how would one become a good doctor without the basic human body practicals? Please tell
Italy has some of the best healthcare systems in the world, and produce fantastic doctors across the world which you can look up. The system obviously works,

@@manjuhooda8608 iknow doctor called guisipe benedetto work in usa is able to perform sucessfully the aortic arch which only a few surgeon can perform in the world and has done a great achievements in surgery is graduated from bergamo.and usa itself witnessed his skills. He completed a post graduate residency and specialist not a practionee who is restricted and normal to be have not many experience as he recently graduated .
@@manjuhooda8608 they can't measure blood pressure but able to perform very difficult operations successfully like dr benedetto, the aortic arch which only a few surgeon can perform in the whole world, another thing in my home country there was Italian doctors helped us and trained us and many time they have done many operations which was difficult finally the hospital wetnessed their skills how can you say that there is no clinical experience???????
@@AcadIMAT it has a very high life expectancy. Italian cardiologist are invited many times to give lectures in European society of cardiology. Idont know why people don't stop blaming????

Will we have to pay €3000 for each years. Medicine course if for 6 years right so if we have to pay for each years then it will be about €18000 right. And somewhere I heard that every students get 100% scholarships and along with that they get €2500 every month so that they can buy their necessary things, is it really true?
And after our course will we get Jobs and will we be considered as a doctor?
Hi, €3000 a year in some reputable universities in big cities, in smaller cities you probably pay even less. The level of education is the same in all universities. When you leave Medicine you have a guaranteed job because there is an extreme shortage of doctors in the Country.
