Great car Lou! But hey did she ever explain what that a/c switch on the right side of the dash was for? Looks like an a/c car originally but no longer? Very interesting Canadian "Franken-Chrysler" thanks Lou 😊 ✌🏳️‍🌈✌

@@bryannolte4910 This car originally had air conditioning. When my husband redid the heads, I had him leave the air conditioner off because I never used it and it was a big clunky thing on the engine.

I worked at Grand Spaulding Dodge, the famous Mr.Norm in the fall of 1968, My job was to test drive new cars before delivery, and correct any problems prior to delivery to the new owner. What a great job, I would have paid them to do it. A will never forget the first time I saw the 68 Chargers, I was totally blown away. The most beautiful car ever. I was 19 years old at the time. A time I will never forget.

My buddy's Dad had a 67 Monaco with 440 4V. My buddy drove it one night on the 401 highway in Ontario Canada in the early 70's at over 130 mph for MILES AND MILES. The "cruise" ended suddenly with engine blowing up....ha ha ha. Thanks for the memory Lou...LOL

Manchester UK commenter here - I was in the city centre today, and saw a super-rare sight here - parked right outside the Chinese restaurant where I was about to have lunch. A 'cuda of the iconic 70-74 shape, immaculate restored lime green example, with "383" on its rear haunches - I'm guessing the same motor that's in this beauty. Thanks for the great episode, and hey Diana, I think you're just as gorgeous as your fabulous car. Best wishes

My brother had a 1966 Monaco 500 2 door with the 383 4-Barrel. It was olive green inside and out. Standing beside the car, you could not hear it running; the engine was so quiet, as was the ride inside. My brother installed a set of Michelin radial tires, when radials were the "breakthrough" design of that era. To this day, I don't think I have ever ridden in a more comfortable, quiet, luxuriously sporty vehicle.

My first car was a 68 Polara with the 383 2bbl. As a kid, we had a 67 Polara wagon, also with the 383. Plenty of power, great sound out of the single exhaust. I pushed mine to a tick over 200,000 miles before the ever leaking valve cover gaskets took their toll. And I always wanted to have the floor shift with the console.
A nice extra on mine also were the front disc brakes. Dual piston calipers.

Hey Lou- Diana has good taste in cars! Had a '65 Polara we inherited from my Great Uncle Jack we named "the John Polara". Great driving car. Very easy steering and POWER brakes. Had 383 2 barrel that was enough but what she has is much better! Gotta love "car girls"! We need more of them. The world would be a better place! 🙂

Wow, beautiful (and very straight) Monaco. My parents had a 1970 (fuselage C body) Monaco 500 with the 383. That said, I think that other than the name badges, the only common part might have been the console and gear selector.
Diana is a very knowledgeable lady and definitely has the gift of the "car gene".
PS, that's a "Fratzog" in the centre of the steering wheel.

I've always loved the full sized coupes from Mopar & Buick. I saw a midnight blue one running around Lockport back in the early 80s so bad you'd fill the oil & check the gas once a week and the leafs in back were just shot the tail pipes almost dragged. Each time I saw it, they were going in the opposite direction I was going. I turned around each time to see if they'd sell it but I lost them each time. I ended up getting my first Charger; built on Nov 19, 1966. When I saw the Monaco back in 84, I had my 72 LeSabre GS 455 Stage 1 2-door hardtop.

@@loucostabile I had a list of cars a bunch cry over when I tell them; although the first one brought fits of uncontrollable laughter...a 285K mile 1975 AMC Hornet Sportabout Wagon in Canary yellow w/232cu 1 bbl. The rest of the list sort of in order: 1972 LeSabre GS 455 Stage1 2 door hardtop (had that car til 1991, was in the fire at the trans shop) 1966 Charger, 1972 Buick Centurion 455 Stage1 convert, 1975 Duster w/Power-Pak 225, 1965 Riv GS 465 Super Wildcat, 1965 Rambler Marlin 327 auto, 1967 Olds Delmont 88 Holiday coupe 425 Super Rocket w/Muncie M-20 & 12 bolt posi, 1974 Dodge D300 Tradesman Maxi-extended Shaggin' Wagon (w/built 440 & sidepipes) - owner had it in the movie The Van, 1966 LeSabre 400 Convert with Buick's Ultra High Compression 340-4, 1979 Chrysler Cordoba looked factory stock w/650HP 444 Stroker Big Block, 1968 Plymouth 440 Sport Satellite (I love the taillight design), 1972 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham 2 door, 1986 Omni GLH-S, 1988 LeSabre Turbo 3.8l Aero Coupe, 1994 T-bird 4.6 LX w/Essex supercharger, 1991 Mercury Cougar XR-7 (test mule) H.O. 302 w/factory GT40 Heads/intake & tube headers.
Each one of them has a story to tell and wouldn't mind having any of them back; except for the 75 wagon.
In my garage right now: 2002 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport (work) & 2002 Dodge Stratus 3.0l R/T coupe 5-speed stick (play)

My parents had the wagon version of this car. 67 Monaco wagon…fully loaded with 440. Car was the personal chauffeur driven vehicle of George Love, chairman of Chrysler in 67. My dad picked it up from Pittsburgh factory rep for Chrysler after the car was taken out of service in 68. Awesome vehicle that is regularly spoken about in my family. My dad loved that car but hated the mileage. Beautiful car Diane…I would be proud to own that car. Nice video Lou!

Inside resembles the 67 Charger and a bit of the Plymouth Fury III 2 dr hdtp with the bucket console interior. 383 was great, our 68 Charger had it. Her Monaco surely is not a usual sight anymore and even back when it would have been new, didn't see many around SE VA. She's got a gem!

What a beautiful automobile...we'll never ever see American art on wheels like this that were built from the 50's through the 60's. I agree with her..it looks so much better without the black vinyl roof...I always thought the vinyl roofs detracted from the continuous flow of the lines on many automobiles. My uncle had one. Monaco 500, red with painted white roof and red interior with buckets and console. 318 poly auto. Was a nice car and lived in a garage. Rear frame was getting soft. I wanted it and he promised the car to me, but my Dad said no. So he gave me the $50 the scrap yard gave him for it. That was the early 80s...

My mother inherited her father's car when he passed in 1967. He was born in 1889. His generation saw the biggest change from horse drawn carriges to the model T, to the jet age, modern cars and much more. His last car was a 1961 Dodge Polara, v8. He told me it was the most powerful car he ever owned. We had it till 1979 when we sold it to a young girl we knew who was desperate for a car, going to college and really couldn't afford one. We let her have it for 300 dollars. Lifelong Southern California car, and still running fine. This car is much bigger, and is absolutely beautiful!
