On "My Car Story" we're in the Western Suburbs of Chicago IL on 9-4-22.
We're looking at a 1967 Oldsmobile Toronado in Purple Paint. The car comes with the factory 425 CI V8 engine, and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Kevin Weeks. Kevin’s had this car since 1995. He shares when he was 16 years old he saw a Toronado smoke the front wheels as a FWD car, and that that was so cool.
    ENJOY!

GM really was on their styling game in the mid ‘60s. This Toronado is a real icon.

I had an Uncle that was in the Air Force and he had one of these, not sure if it was a 66 or a 67 but I was only little kid at the time and that car was one of the earliest memories I have of being interested in cars. That body style of the 66 and 67 Toronado was the coolest of the brand with those hideaway headlights and that sharp fastback. The interior is just as futuristic looking as the exterior and just matches the car perfectly. Super cool, timeless design back when cars were so cool and this Toronado is the coolest!!!

Relatives and parents and I all owned many different Oldsmobiles, but none of them were Toronados. So thanks, Lou, for featuring this one. I've seen many dashboards in your videos and in person and I still think Olds designed the best dashboards of anyone. Their interiors were first rate in the 1960s. Also the styling of the Toronado kind of paid homage to the Cord, its front-drive predecessor. Especially those beautiful wheels with the circle cutouts and the hidden headlamps.

1967 Oldsmobile Toronado Deluxe in Dubonnet (likely a rare color) and Black vinyl roof (new for the model year). Production for the model year was 21,790 units (significantly less than the about 40,000 units sold in the previous model year). Cadillac introduced the front wheel drive Eldorado in 1967...so perhaps there were only a limited number of potential buyers for a large front wheel drive coupe. As mentioned, the Toronado with standard trim was offered but rare with production of only 1,770 units. The standard trim had the mentioned front bench seat...but also had very plain door cards without door assist handles and full-length armrests. The contemporary Buick Riviera also offered a similar standard model with the plain interior. All the GM E-body cars of this generation utilized the rear seat door latches on the door cards (except standard trim). The Toronado had a distinctly designed driver side heel pad. Options on this car include Four Season AC ($343.20), tilt/telescope steering wheel ($78.99), vinyl roof ($84.26), chromed "Open-Spider" wheels and trim rings ($88.47), power retractable radio antenna ($29.12), and cornering lamps ($36.86).

I never had the pleasure of owning a first generation Toronado, but did have a 1984 Toronado as well as a 1975 Eldorado Coupe, 1975 Eldorado Convertible, and my current collectible, a 1984 Eldorado Biarritz Convertible. Now that's a car one doesn't see every day! The Oldsmobile Toronado was cool due to its front wheel driveline, and no transmission hump and driveshaft tunnel. These cars were quite unique back in the mid 60s. Cadillac El Dorado eventually went to this same front wheel drive platform, and even later the Buick Riviera. I drove a friend's 1966 Toronado, and that car would flat out run! I liked this example you showed us today. The engine sounded healthy, and the hide away headlights really set it off. That telescopic tilt steering wheel was a nice option. The new cars today do not impress me, but these past classics sure do! They were all unique in their own way. Good one Lou!

Nice car! My dad had a 66' in dark Navy Blue, I remember that thing could hall A$$ and it had quite a rumble too it. I was 7 at the time he got it, it was 1972... he used to take the family for a ride in it in Sundays, mom my brother and I. I can remember that he was so proud driving that car. The engine eventually blew in the thing, I don't remember what happened but he ended up getting rid of it for I think it was a Bonneville or a Parisienne.

The 1967 425 engine was improved over that of the previous model year.
That chain-drive was so bulletproof that these drivetrains were also used in motorhomes.
If that isn't a timeless design, I don't know what is

Great early Toro! Too bad it doesn't have the butterfly steering wheel, so unique to Toros. Glad to see the rolling speedo tho. Kevin, the idea of this first model was totally forward thinking, front drive and all. It was a marvel of the day. Too bad Olds lost their way in the late 90s. The last Alero and Intrigue were too late after 10 yrs of ho hum designs.
