Nice overview video. It really is nice to see what someone thinks about each Mac over some long term use. I recently upgraded from an m1 air to a base 14 inch m3 max MacBook Pro , and I gotta say I love all the improvements I see . No slowdowns at all for any apple silicon optimized apps. And I think increase in RAM ( 8gb to 36 gb ) has provided the biggest boost to my overall use case. To provide context I’m getting into coding more and eventually would like to get into some creative video and photo editing in the future.

This was refreshing - everyone makes you feel like you have to max out the specs. I have an m1 MacBook Air since 2020 and that served me well with video editing up to now -where it’s having hard time with memory and storage.

Would you recommend the 13” or 15” MacBook Air if the most important factor is portability?
For reference: I would be using this exclusively for software development on the go, but my primary machine at home is a Mac Studio so I don’t need any Pro level features. Is the 13” a no brainier, or is the added screen real estate worth lugging around the extra weight?

Used to be the Air was for the public / students, the entry level Pro's were for regular professionals ( lawyers, doctors, realtors etc ) and the higher level Pro's were for the multi-media professionals.
Now I have no idea what any of them are for. I know people who are using M1 Airs for photo and video editing just fine.

Great content! Man, I used to have a main street photography studio. Had all the gear, Hasselblads, Leica, top spec Canon digital. Printed my work on huge Epson printers. So of course, reasonable spec computer was a necessity… and back then it was a G5… lol, yea it was a while back. Ultimately though I moved away from a tower to the Powerbook, the last one being the 2011 MacBook Pro. Last 2 years iPad Pro only. Anyhow, that was then and these days, with no need for anything remotely high spec…. I just bought the M3 Max MacBook Pro for the hell of it.
Yea crazy I know. I just like stuff and I can afford it.

Before the M3s came out I spent way too much time debating between the M2 MBA 15 and the M2 MBP 14. I ended up getting a refurbished M1 Pro MBP 14 (16GB/1TB), and that turned out to be the right choice for my use case.
I hope you have a great holiday break, and I look forward to your future posts.

I've just recently found this channel and have become a big fan. If I can give any small feedback (and please don't take this the wrong way; i think this channel will be a million-plus sub channel in the next four years; and i've been able to consistently predict this with other channels such as Tech Chap and Max Tech, when they were both very small and just starting), it would be the effects where you change your voice and head size to make a point (from 6:02 to 6:14), which while it is a very valid point, it takes away from the message rather than adding to it. It is distracting to the point where I personally (and it may just be me) had to rewind a couple times to understand what you were trying to say. Outside of that, this was another outstanding and entertaining video. It's so refreshing to get another tech channel on whose videos I can consistently rely to deliver a high quality product on topics in which I am very interested. Thanks again, Kyle. Hope you enjoy the holidays man.

Excellent review. I have the 15" MBA with 16/512 and it has not skipped a beat. I got mine for $1345 open box and you can get it for $1245 at Apple Refurbished. Those that say that you need the latest Pro to do anything intense is just not the case. Frankly speaking, what is intense on a Mac is paltry in comparison to what I do on a PC. I run Ansys, SolidWorks, Creo and MatLab and they all are more intense that Adobe Premiere, Photoshop or FCP. So, while I love Macs, the influencer application do not compare to the engineering apps that tend to all run on Windows only.

Can anybody tell me here if these 2023 macbooks can render animated short clips in blender ? For example the free animated project by blender ? And if I say ''can it render'' I mean render times in a humane way and not like 500 hours for 10 sec)

It’s funny how Apple charges more for storage on MacBooks than they do for iPhones, despite it being easier (and probably cheaper) to implement. Want 512GB on your iPhone? That’ll be $100. Want 512GB on your Mac?
“Oh it’s $200 for a Mac because I’m making up the pricing anyways, money printer go brrrrrrr.” -Tim Cook probably
You can get 1TB NVME drives with similar performance for just $50, and that’s a final product with marketing, shipping, etc. Yet 1TB will cost you $400 on your Mac. Apple is straight up scamming everyone on storage.
It doesn’t make their brand any less premium by having reasonable markups on storage and RAM upgrades. If Apple made all their base models come with 1TB of storage and 16GB of RAM without raising prices, MacBooks would fly off the shelves and the PC laptop market would collapse (relatively speaking.) And if they cut down on their upgrade pricing by half, I wouldn’t even recommend any other laptop.
Rather than charging a premium for commodity parts which makes no sense, Apple should charge a heavier premium for their silicon, which is actually special. Want an M Pro chip? $500, want an M Max chip $1000, want an M Ultra chip $2000-$2500.

Useful. Apple's pricing for upgrades at the time of purchase is almost like someone holding a gun the the head of the person purchasing a Mac.
The base model does not present any kind of longevity unless you are just do Web browsing and media consumption.
8gb ram, 256gb disk space on th base model is anathema and Apple are just taking the Michael with their greedy upgrade prices.
They won't change because they make too much money. Great products but greedy business practices.

If you think anything more than 32gb ram is excessive thats half the population of macbook users that NEED this 36 and up. You can get by with less and using swap sure but lets be realistic at the end of the day when its a business machine or your making money with it every minute counts, every safeguard helps, every time you can not see your memory pressure in yellow and red is even better.
If i was a content creator i wouldnt even think about touching anything less than 36gb this tier your just hurting yourself and overworking the baseline for no reason. Smarten up on the thinking here. 18gb this year baseline is an amazing middle ground for anyone that doesnt do intensive tasks and id say if you do than 64gb and thats where i would draw the line on sweet spot as 96 or 128 are just excessive in my reality unless you have a 1% workflow.
Avoiding swap isnt a crime id rather save my SSD life so i can make it to 10+ years after investing 5 grand you feel me?
