Boy, I learned a lot today. Unfortunately I don’t have the great saws n tools that you have to make a board look right. But at 73 I don’t think I’ll be making any furniture. I’ll continue to do what I love to do n that’s stripping paint off when someone has painted an antique. I still love to have a blanket chest though 😁. Looking forward to see you finish making the top n putting the stain on. By the way, I noticed that you can tell the difference from the white pine from the yellow. That white is so much prettier. Hope you’re getting some warmer days. ♥️♥️♥️😊👍👍👍👏
Hi Shelly! Yes, it's feeling very spring-like this week, and we should be seeing buds on the trees very soon. I agree...the Eastern White Pine is very nice! 💖
I didn't even get "board" watching this video because it's "ingrained" into me to watch every Friday. "Wood" you believe that I was really "glued" into what you were explaining? I can't wait to see it finished.
That’s funny. You should be on a stage. There’s one leaving in five minutes, be on it. ( My mom use to tell me that whenever I came up with a corny joke)🤪 I will admit, watching this video had me pine-ing to get into my workshop. 😊
Seeing this chest come along shows me that with drive and instruction, I can construct anything. Again, I insist we return to these timeless means of furniture construction.
@@1834RestorationHouse My husband and I recently added a jointer and a planer to our workshop and are excited to be able to salvage old wood now :) It's amazing what good wood you can find at Habitat for Humanity Restore! It feels so nice to save old or damaged wood ❤️
@@jenniferlehner1849 I'm so glad to hear about you taking up woodworking! Just watch out for nails in the boards. One piece of metal will destroy your blades. Be safe and have fun!! 💖
Like everyone else, I'm really having fun watching YOU have fun building the chest! Can't wait for the finished project! I found it interesting that you can tell by the sound when the boards are "good" (technical woodworking term there 😉)! The jointer only makes sound when it's *not* flat and is taking off the uneven bits. Once it's quiet all the way through, it's done! And the planer is the opposite - it only makes sound when the flat surfaces make contact, so when it's noisy all the way through, it's because the whole surface is in contact and it's flat. Fascinating! It really drove home to me the difference in what they're accomplishing. I hadn't really paid attention before, I guess! Have a wonderful week! And Happy Valentine's Day❣️ 💘❤️🔥💖♥️💞🌹💞♥️💖❤️🔥💘

Very "punny"! ;-)

Oh no🤦🏼♀️you didn't.😂😂

Nothing beats real wood when it comes to durability and good looks.
It's great that you have the tools and the know-how to make use of warped boards like that! The blanket chest is looking great!
Thank you Jennifer! When I learned how to save warped boards, it was a huge "Aha!" moment. In the past I might have scrapped them.

You're right! The sound tells the whole story about what's going on with the machine. Happy Valentine's! 💖
Thanks for Explaining and showing How to deal with not perfect boards. Good to know how you can still save it and give it a workable life.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🌻
Well now you have shown us why good furniture is so expensive. Lots of work!
Yes!
I appreciate seeing every step of the build. Just the work to prepare the wood is labor intensive. All of this before the crafting even begins.
So true! Lots of prep and head scratching goes on around here.
Great to see the progress you’ve made.👍
Thanks 👍We'll get it done one of these days!
It's coming along!
Enjoyed the video. I love watching this kind of stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it!
To be continued.... I can't quit now. I'm invested in this chest.🤣🤣 I could watch for hours. Hope you have a great week. 👋❤️🤍💙
We're glad you enjoyed it!
You got skills Mike!
It's a work in progress, trying to get better every time. :-)
Oh my. Talk about the feeling of "deja vu"! I know it isn't summer, so why the "reruns"? 😉☺️
Reruns?
@1834RestorationHouse I didn't mean it in a bad way! I was just trying to make a joke (guess it was a bad joke though). 🙃
Thanks, nice job! Will you be lining the whole chest with cedar? Or is just the bottom enough? Looking forward to seeing it finished 😊
We're just doing the bottom. The aroma is really strong!
Yes, those internal stresses can be really bad. Some guys use a band saw when doing board separation just for this reason.
Are you still taking college classes? Enjoyed this one as always
I'm taking a semester off. Thanks for watching!
Jeannie shouldn’t grab the boards so close to the blade if kickback occurs, could pull her hand back into blade.
The camera tends to exaggerate things. Her hands were well back and off to the side, but we appreciate your concern!
