  • To get your dog to come when called you need a lead, treats and lots of patience. In this video: How to perfect your dog's recall I show how I get Dante (now he isn't lunging and barking at other dog) to come to me when I call him. If your dog is reactive or aggressive to other dogs please watch the beginning of the series and complete the steps before you advance to this stage.
    Disclaimer: if you have any aggression issues with your dog be sure to complete my online course on nervousness and aggression before implementing any advice given on my UA-cam videos as a complete oversight of the method with careful management is needed.

    ** PS: I NEED YOUR HELP **
    My goal is to better the lives of #onemilliondogs in my lifetime. It is clearly impossible for me to do this on a one to one basis. I have seen that with around every thousand views on my videos, I get a comment or email thanking me and letting me know the video has helped. So working on that basis, I have to make videos on how to address every problem
    behaviour and accumulate ONE billion views in order to help 1,000,000 dogs.
    You can help me reach #onemilliondogs by (1) subscribing to my channel and (2) give this video a thumbs up - so UA-cam suggests this video to more dog owners and we can help 1,000,000 dogs all over the world. Thank you so much!
    ** THANK YOU **

    Great job Nigel with Dante. You're showing us great examples on how to control our dogs. It is very inspiring for those of us who still have to continue working with our dogs. Thank you!

    Thanks for the video, Nigel! I've been implementing your techniques with my Presley.
    I've noticed sometimes you give the 'come' command twice. I do that sometimes too as I feel that the first time I say it I get Presley's attention and the second time he registers the command and comes to me. Are you saying it twice on purpose? How would I go about weeding out the second 'come' command if not?

    • @nigelreed
      @nigelreed  3 роки тому

      Hi Agustin, I say it in case he can't hear. If I thought he could definitely hear me I would correct straight away - if he chose to ignore me.

    Great video about the one weak link in my guy's training. Recall!He's a 30 lb. Schnauzer mix with maybe Husky? I asked before about the harness on Dante and wanted to know if the one you use is the "H" or the "double H"? In the website there is no picture of the "H" on a dog. Thanks again for your wonderful kind work!

      I have no idea. It's the owner's harness and she doesn't know either when I asked. Sorry about that.

      Thanks for your response! I found more photos of the harness models on a US site and Dante's harness appears to be a "double H"

    Wait! It seems this is sort of "PART 2" of recall. How do I get my dog to even come when no dogs are around? Is there a Part 1?

    • @nigelreed
      @nigelreed  3 роки тому

      The same way Todd. There is no part 1 of recall on this series. Check out my recall video

    My Shiba Inu dog is to the point where he walks by other dogs on lead without a reaction. I took him to meet a friend of mine who has a dog and the friend's dog let my dog sniff his butt and was very calm around my dog. Now my dog thinks that every dog is as friendly and nice as my friend's dog. Yesterday, I saw a woman holding a 9 month old Shiba Inu puppy. The woman put the Shiba Inu puppy on the ground and my curous dog approached the puppy and then tried to attack it. I pulled the lead back and the puppy did not seem to notice any different. I apologized to the owner and she was also ok. My dog behaves well and plays with dogs he was introduced to when he was young, but now he seems to have either forgotten or don't know how to interact with dogs he does not know. I do not want him to dominant or attack dogs we meet, how can I teach him how to correctly interact?

    • @nigelreed
      @nigelreed  3 роки тому

      Hi Elva, I demonstrated this in the how to socialise a reactive dog video. You need many experiences where they are calm with dogs from a meter away before meeting. After many lessons then go a step further.

    where can one get that type of harness?

    • @nigelreed
      @nigelreed  3 роки тому

      It's called a Haqihana harness.

    All that, on harness no less, no prong or shock....... how about people just talking to their dogs, like you do
