Kelsey was easily one of the characters I related to most in this show. So many creatives have great ideas but never see commercial success because it's not as bland or "safe" as corporate interests would like, and as much as I like that she got some sort of happy ending, Bojack killing her jellybean passion project hurt.
She kinda had a happy ending, at the ending one of the billboards anounce the movie "Firefly" wich is directed by Kelsey, so at least she is still succesful
In defence of Jorge! Their situation is more nuanced than that. Jorge as a POC immigrant ( most likely) comes from the background of non privilege and represents us all POC which struggle to be "happy" with less. In this episode Todd literally is white privilege. And Jorge acknowledges this at the end.
Honestly I can'tstand it, because it boils down Todd's character to just, "White". All his success that was previously built around his indomitable optimism and enthusiasm? Nope he's just white. All the things that he has been shown to be willing to do for others which contributed to his success? Nope, he's just white. It's character assassination in the name of political messaging and is truly my biggest gripe with the last season of bojack.
Yeah, you see it with a lot of immigrant families of the parents ending up with really high expectations of their children because they obviously went through a lot of work and trouble to get them better opportunities. Especially with Jorge not recognising that Todd doesn't have that systemic barrier making everything harder, it makes sense why they have that communication issue of Todd "not trying hard enough" and Jorge "never being happy with his happiness"
I’ll be honest, when I saw the community post that your next video would be “controversial,” I was cautious it may have been some sort of “in defense of White Whale” or something along those lines. Thankfully that’s not the case and you clearly meant “controversial to centrists and conservatives content with the current system” and not “controversial to the audience [you] have accumulated.” Anyway, this was a banger. Loved it.
Fantastic video, especially to drop this week, in an atmosphere where many of us are considering the indirect violence CEOs are able to get away with. I admire you for taking a firm stance on a lot of things in this video a wider UA-cam audience might find problematic.
oh, you see, you misunderstood the term "free market" what it actually means is the biggest, richest players in the game are free to manipulate the market any way they choose
I'm glad you did this video. It's an important topic that should be discussed more often. I just hope UA-cam doesn't take this video down. Anyway, great job

23:54 Even Todd and Mr. Peanut Butter's Disney knock-off could pretty much be a metaphor for how awful the Disney Parks are. ua-cam.com/video/eBn8z3vbh4A/v-deo.htmlsi=tPSee6xQhB-WMZa1 It might as well be the real life versions of Mr. Peanut Butter and Todd's Disney parks. Most of the deaths are pretty much people sneaking into the parks. Barely any information on many of the reported and known deaths, all you get is like a few mentions and you're just left assuming why that hotel guest was doing in a restricted area of the hotel that they were staying at, dead. Someone getting beheaded on a rollercoaster, because they might have taken off their seatbelt. Employees getting hurt or killed because Disney thought it was a good idea to cut corners and not make the most clearest and most cautious rules to operating rides. Not to mention, having to rope off deeper parts of some bodies of waters because some kid unknowingly swam into crocodile-infested waters and was drowned by one of those apex predators.
With recent events in mind, if Whitewhale said his whole "make a billion dollars and kill me" crap to the wrong person, they would've skipped that first step entirely and gotten straight to business

24:28 that is not what an externality is. An externality is more something that is unaccounted for in basic cost evaluations. The concept of externalities in economics is meant to address head on the existence of unintended consequences and make sure they are taken into account- not to dismiss them as meaningless or unchangeable
This video does a really good job explaining the dangers of capitalism and as a communist I am very happy to see someone aware of these dangers, however I would like to add that these dangers are *inherent* to capitalism, and as long as we live under capitalism these companies will always find a way to work around the law for their profit. Capitalism cannot be reformed, so many people are blinded in to thinking that there is no other option, but there is. I suggest anyone at all interested in the future of humanity to look further more in to socialism and the successes of the October Revolution that proved capitalism isn't the only way. For a truely free media, for free art, for free culture, the only way forward is socialism, and as Engels said (and as is pointed out in this video), the choice for our future is simple; socialism or barbarism.

You spoke so well in all these factors of Capitalism! I can honestly say there nothing more Americans can relate to than this single truth. Whether you see this or not, I wish you the best, and know your videos are doing so much more.
8:09 something that isn’t talked about very often is that PC directly fuels Bojack’s regression in the final season. When Bojack’s horrible history is exposed live on television, she switches back into Agent ™️ mode and tries to preserve his image instead of encouraging him to take responsibility
I don't really buy your defence of startups and small businesses at 12:30. Sure, megacorporations are terrible for society and the environment, but small businesses are awfully exploitative, and demand even more sacrifice on the part of their workforce. I have never felt so closely watched and so exploited as when I worked for a small business of people I knew. They often expect you as part of their workforce to make extra sacrifices for them because they're struggling.
@Bianca-nx1wl No not you dw I understand the irony of the placing. In fact- I removed that ad bc UA-cam auto placed them in some rather egregious places. There are just some who say I’m a capitalist bc UA-cam is my job.
30:16 Yes, they do deserve blame! Regardless of how awful a system is, you still have choices within it. That's the entire point of the show. Unless you are literally starving, there is no excuse to contribute to something this vile, especially not for your own enjoyment.
But that’s the thing the people are not to blame because there is no real actual choice to be had that’s not an entire change in diet and that might no be even possible for certain people. Yadda yadda No ethical consumption under capitalism you know the drill
@alejandrocerecer2107 Even in a bad system you still make choices. You can't just bad faith handwave away your own ability to make changes in your own life. Maybe some people choose to kill for their survival, but if you're not one of those people, then what's your excuse? And if you are one of those people, does that then give you the right to kill for your own enjoyment?
George Lucas talked about how in the Soviet Union's later years, as long as your film wasn't too critical of the government you had basically complete artistic freedom, whereas in the American studio system there are basically only four kinds of movies you can make. Now I don't really consider the Soviet Union from Krushchev and after to be a REAL socialist state. After Stalin was killed the USSR basically became a state run by bureacrats. But it's worth noting how a country that imperfect was still leaps and bounds ahead of American capitalism in terms of the art that can be produced, as the means of producing art weren't owned by a few private companies.
Very insightful video! I love this show! The chicken ep I saw surest level horror of it, but something yo said about it filled me with dread once I applied the logic to real life
being an artist overworked in this industry just feels sad. as an artist myself, i want my time and effort to pay off, i want to feel proud of my projects and what i worked on. if i was an artist being rushed by these companies to produce another cash grab, i would feel disappointed and that nothing that is coming out is my best work. i’d feel like i failed as an artist, just producing soulless art. but that’s just me, i hope none of the artists working on other movies and such in the industry feel like they failed.

I think an argument could be made that Diane SHOULD have done what you said you'd have been tempted to do. The guy literally admitted to being a murderous public menace who could not be stopped otherwise. Diane's sacrifice wouldn't have been moral, it would only have been legal.
