Mine was a Blue and Silver metal flake I bought in '82 and put a brand new 200 Black Max on when i bought it. I used a 18 inch set back and a 28 inch chopper and the boat ran 86. I sent the heads to Suncoast cycles in Safety harbor and had Tim take .150 off them then had Diamond marine put a 15 inch midsection on it, a light weight flywheel, and 31 cleaver and it ran 94 mph without actually taking the power head out and doing porting and crank work. These boats have hit well over 100 mph (one guy has run 109 in one) but as you are aware they get squirrely. yours looks very nice by the way, enjoy. FYI I used to live in Everglades City so you understand what i used mine for. 🤣
Loved the video! Specially the technical talk and explanations as I am from Chile and there is almost no knowledge at the level you guys are. Hope to see all of your friends and their boats on interviews like this! Thanks for the content!
I really dig the content. Seems like there’s a growing interest in these high power small package boats. Hard to beat what they almost perfected in the 70’s-80’s
For sure, especially when the boat's can be had for a pretty good price, even one's already restored and the structure under the floor redone (VERY important on the Hydrostream boat's!).. motors can be had for a great price as well!!
Most living on the edge experience I have ever had was running down the Saint Johns in a Vking with a 200 black max. I was in the back, I had bruises across my back from the seat piping for 2 weeks afterward. Might have been a few wake jumps in the ride. The driver was top notch.
I have a buddy who offered to squat in the washwell of my Volero and hug the Big Evinrude at 95 mph moving the weight back and requiring less trim. I said not going to happen! WTF! We eventually hit 101 after lots of motor work, carb changes and lots of props. GAWD that was 30 years ago.
Love the video's! Keep doing them, and with the sound of the engines, better then music ;-) Just bought my first sport boat, a 1992 Checkmate Pulse 211 with a 225HP Mercury from '2000. Love the sound and the power. Greetings from Amsterdam.
That boat is unreal. I would love to fucking go for a ride in that thing I think it’s a beauty I’m guys from sailing but that is hot riding on the water no doubt about it you can’t do that on the street but you can do it on the water legally you should really be in the hot B dubs I had a really nice one back in the 80s I love engines at work hard all day long for you
Been waiting on more walk arounds and whatnot on more cool outboard speed boats. I ecsp like to see more from the 70s and 80s and if you ever find a wreidt spoiler plz showcase it
Nice ride. Looks like it handles like my Voyager XT. I got 98 out of it with a Monty Racing Mod III V6 Looper, but it's down right now. Found a 3.6 L V8 Looper that I'm working on dialing in right now. Hole shot is my issue. Turning a 32 cleaver. I like how the driver runs it fairly flat, typically stream owners try to fly them way too high. It's got a great angle of attack on the water.
@@robertjackson7590 All XT hulls, early or late have the exact same bottom. The outboard 'sponsons' are about 2" above the pad and act as air entrapment 'gull' wings to trap air, creating lift. Also the shape of the sponsons act like shock absorbers when in rough water or traversing large wakes. Very stable, other than any pad style hull will chine walk. The XT hull is the best riding V I've ever experienced. Back in the day, Hydrostream made the XT hull on the Vegas (much more common, closed deck) and the Voyager. You could get either the XT or they made pad V hull. You could get it outboard or I/O. I had a buddy that had one of the pad V hulls designed for a I/O, but he had a Outboard screwed to it. The video you linked is awesome. Mine is similar, but he's done quite a bit of what looks to be carbon fiber customization. If your thinking about finding one, be very careful, as Hydrostreams are notorious for basla core rot and transom rot. They can be restored & are worth doing, but factor the cost of doing such into the purchase price.
@@atheplummer No, that's my boat in the video and when Jim Cotzen got the molds for the 2000 and newer XT's he updated the pad and lowered the sponsons. He also updated the top cap with a lot smoother lines, cup holders, etc. What year model is yours? I did replace my floor, reinforced the transom and retroed the dash. All with epoxy , carbon and S2 glass. It's a retirement distraction. These are some of the best boats built bang for the buck.
@@robertjackson7590 Hmm. I've actually spoken to Cotzen back in the day.... He never mentioned that he updated the bottom. I do know he updeated the top cap. Me personally, I liked the old bow design (which I have, Mines a 89). Thanks for clarifying the differences. I love what you've done with your boat... Kudo's. I need to redo mine too. Maybe a winter project. I really like how you lowered the windshield on your rig. That's the ONE thing I don't like about my boat. I always wanted to find a set of Valero windshields and try to fit them on it. I'm going to subscribe to your channel, I'd like to communicate with you in the future.
Nice video reminds me of my first Hydrostream Vector. Great job Hunter look forward to the next one. Will you at the Offshore race taping? My brother and I will be down for it.
Nice showcase of Tristyns boat! Love the color combo on the vking. Just a small question, do you guys still have those alva river run t-shirts? I know tristyn had them but couldn't get in touch with him. Really want to buy one because I love the design!
About 10 years ago I sold the 1979 hydrostring vector with the 200 horse has wise coast pistons polish. It was nice it was nice but I blew the motor up so I sold it for 2000 bucks.
Sure needs center steering....If you really want to pick up some top end numbers take the windshield off. These boats definitely don't like weight. Two big fellas in it can dam near take 5mph straight off the top. I ran a Hill 29" Chopper and loved it. My hull was a Sterling Dominator though. Hull the same but windshield pretty different.
You could take the windshield off to go a couple miles an hour faster, unfortunately, you would ruin the look of an otherwise beautiful boat if you did that. These need to stay they way they were from the factory. Don't trash the looks of one of the most beautiful boats ever made, IMO.
That's what I want to do....ride flying down the lake with just the foot of the motor in the water. Excellent way to lose control of the boat and go tumbling down the lake
By far the best , baddest looking boat ever built . Couldn't pick better colors either . BADDASS !!!!
Yes Yes yes more of these. Awesome, thanks, Larry
That beast is beautiful, art in translation!!!
Thanks for not having music playing during the video. I could listen to that 2.5 sing all day!

Keep show casing boats like this. It keeps me sane till my checkmate is ready
I grew up riding in my uncles hydrostream way back in the day. She's a beautiful peice

The whole time I had that boat there was never another boat that put me in my place for about five years on Altoona Lake in North Georgia

Indeed....
Beautiful boat, and the Merc sounds fantastic!
Love it ....i had a 79 baja 16.5 closed bow..115 merc...not lightning...but pretty quick

Awesome boat and video even better it was your grandfathers!!!
Beautiful boat! Love the videos. Keep'em coming!
I’m a big fan of the Carlsons but this boat is FUCKEN awesome!❤️
Those Mercury fly by passes have the best sound ever
Very nice love how you showed gps proof of weight distribution in the boat and what it does
Great boat !! Glad to see these still around .. sorry for ur loss .

You gotta love the v-king, such a beautiful boat.
Awesome seeing individual stories on these boats
Beautiful boat. Love this style video. Can't wait to see more!
I was hoping to see a rig rundown on this boat. Absolutely beautiful, and such an awesome thing to inherit. Hopefully see you guys in palatka!
Thanks hunter for the interview ! Awesome job and look forward to doing the other two!

One of my favorite vkings, such a sick color scheme

Great video! This sure is one beautiful boat. Would love to see more boats in interviews like this!
Awesome video man, I like the videos on the different boats like this.

Enjoyed it!

Hunter, very nice video, need more.......thanks!
Great idea for new content and to grow your channel. Can't wait to see more ride along videos.
Thx for the video. Like to hear the details of the setups. Fuel, props, etc
watching up here in michigan, love the vids, God bless grampa
Got to love a Vking. Snarky sounding engine too. Up close tech vids a plus.
After all these years, the only thing I have left is the carburetors and the lower foot width bottom and pick up
I have a 14ft with a 135 black max not as fast but so fun. Your biat is incredible smooth at 90 good work.
Cool video, sweet boat!
I enjoyed that bud, nice work!!
Awesome video Brother
those bridgeports revved nicely. ring failure more common but sweet while they hold up.
That is moving. Killer numbers for your set up
Sweet run on the vintage, Vking.
One of the most dialed streams on UA-cam
My fav boat on this channel!
another great video, I was starting to worry
Life jacket police in.... 3...2...1
Awesome video! 🤙
Fucking bad ass man. That’s one of he best running streams I’ve seen
Impressive numbers for a stock port 200, nice ride
Coral Gables 🌴🇺🇸 Hehe. Neighbor had one in 70's and would loose Marine Patrol ! 🏄
Dig the videos like this!
Enclose Battery Life Vest Fire Extinguisher nice build
This looks like a vector but still insanly cool
Similar to a vector, the bottoms different, the gunnels are different and its about 6" longer
Need one with the 24 Tuff
When only the Best will do!!!
4 strokes will NEVA be that sexy....period 💪
My dad had a vector with a 2.5 merc

Is yours the early XT that had rails on each side of the pad? Are they filled in?

No sir those are gone. The weekends on the water t shirts will be the next ones available!
Killer vid. One thing, just get the camera closer to whoever you're interviewing, it was hard to hear. Cheers!
Cool video, wear a vest !!!!
💪🙌

UMM Lifelines????? Never once did I not wear mine running 100mph..Cool video, that motor should handle 7500 though.
Handle 7500 maybe, spin a 30" 75?? Gotta put some big dollars in it to do that.
@@miketee2444 Agreed They make 28s...lolol
Are y'all coming to Tennessee is a couple of weeks?
I wish, but not this year. We got too much going on that month this year
Holy crap is there a risk of that thing grabbing air and flipping up? Have u ever had any close calls with that?
They have done it forsure! I haven't had a close call but you can definitely feel the bow get light at times
Is that a 2 Stroke or 4 Stroke engine?
2 stroke
And no life vest?
Very unusual occurrence for us
I kicked myself in the ass for selling mine
That's what I want to do....ride flying down the lake with just the foot of the motor in the water. Excellent way to lose control of the boat and go tumbling down the lake
Kinda of an ugly boat from a distance not kool like a 14or 15 ft Canadian built sidewinder
