    This is probably the most concise explanation of basic Spey setups and terminology I’ve ever seen. Just subscribed. Thank you for taking the time to produce this tutorial!!!

    Great little short explanation and I’ll probably plagiarize it when I’m teaching students. Thank you, Simon, John Till

    All I gotta say was this video was absolutely great. You did something most people rush through videos explaining. Due to your explanation I fully understand the difference between skagit and scandi as well as whats needed to put together what I purchased which was a skagit setup for my trout spey rod.

    There's certainly something to be said about having a presenter with an English accent. Watch any of David Attenborough's nature documentaries and you'll understand why. As per usual Simon does an excellent job of breaking down something which can seem daunting to beginners, into a no nonsense, easy to follow guide for getting started.

    Awesome tutorial, mass move mass, please explain that principal on other video, the saltwater guys at the east coast will appreciate it.
    I see people love the huge flies up to 12” to match the bunker run, they are having problems to cast efficiency this bulky patterns. Skagit is the way, but they not look in to it because they think is complicated. Thank you Simon.
    Go reds!

    Glad I came to your channel because I have been using the shooting line from a 3wt fly line to use as a shooting by cutting the head/ thick part of the fly line. It has made my trout spey rod setup more cheaper. Love your channel. Liked and subscribed 🤙🤙🤙

    Very wonderful informative video the best i've seen yet. Quick, little question.
    I can only afford one rod so I've been looking at a 12' 5wt That would cover not only big trout but 4lbs to 8lbs steelhead What is your thoughts thank you.

    great video on trout spey but this system is not just for trout .I used my 4 weight for bass, pike salmon and my favorite.. swinging intruder style fly's for the big walleye that patrol my local river..tons of fun .have pretty much abandoned my single handed rods

    Thanks for this great video! I'm just starting my tiptoe into trout spey casting. Any tips on using a euro nymphying rod to trout one handed spey would be greatly appreciated.

    I just got my first trout spey rod from a friend, it’s a Redington Dually 10’ 9” 4wt with a SA Skagit Lite 270 Gr F and have been watching you casting videos. They are very very helpful. I’m still unclear on the MOW tip though. My current setup is a sinking tip attached directly to the Skagit head. He gave me a Rio “In Touch Skagit iMOW Tip, Light iMOW 10’ INT. In this video it sounds like I should attach this iMOW tip to my Skagit tip and then the leader but it seems to cast well (I’m still practicing but getting better). I’m going after steelhead but have been catching trout so far. Should I purchase a Scandi line for drys or can I just use a regular tapered leader. Any tips would be much appreciated. Thank you and Merry Christmas

    Would you use one these setup's on a UK reservoir? Or is it just for large rivers

      Trout spey rods are great for soft hackles and streamers in lakes. They are a great way to cover water quickly and efficiently!

    I was told by rio when using a scandi line, you don’t need a running line. You just connect it to the backing. Is this correct?

    • @AnglersAll
      @AnglersAll  5 років тому +1

      Some Scandi lines come with a built in running line, some do not. If its only the head you absolutely will need running line to attach to the head. I hope this helps! Call 303 794 1104 if you have any further questions, we would be happy to help!

    I've been fly fishing and tying my own flies for 35 years and wanna get into using this style of fly fishing for salmon, steelhead and brown Trout on the salmon river in upstate NY. What weight rod, and line should I use if I'm used to using an 8/9 WT ?
