  • From the lush riparian areas surrounding the Sacramento River and it's tributaries to the expanse of the rolling hills of blue oak savannah, the Sacramento River Bend Area offers diverse habitat for bald eagles, osprey, migratory and song birds, deer, and salmon. The area also offers numerous recreation opportunities for hunting, camping, hiking, boating, picnicking, and wildlife viewing.
We went on a morning mountain bike ride to explore the Sacramento River Bend Area, starting at Oak Slough Trailhead which connects to the Yana Trail to ultimately get to Massacre Flats Primitive Campground. This was more of a scouting trip to explore the area and see the trails for future backpacking and/or bikepacking trips. It is public BLM land, just outside of Cottonwood and Red Bluff, California to the west and Lassen National Forest to the east.
