Exchanging deflections in this game is literally the most satisfying thing ever.

@Joseph Waters it's really not that bad of a fight and once u "get it" the whole game feels easier after genichiro. It did for me and ive heard alot of people say that. It's easier if u think of it as a pattern. He's going to do certain things in order depending on how close or far away u are. It was easier to stay close so he doesn't shoot arrows at u. When he jumps in the air to do that over head dodge to the side and punish him. First bar he does thrust so mikircounter his ass. Second bar it's sweeps so jump on his head. Third phase he mixes it up. I only started playing games again within the last year again and don't consider myself a very good player but it took me about 10 tries to get him. It takes time to get used to the combat but once u do it feels great. All fromsoftware games are is figuring out the enemy pattern in boss fights and in the levels. If u look around there's a few midbosses and hidden prayer beads u can find and get your health to 14 before u fight him again. Not sure if u found the bead in hirata estates behind the shinobi door or the one in ashina castle by the two sitting ashina Elite guys sitting on the floor. There's another shinobi door. Then two mid bosses in senpou temple and ashina reservoir. The extra health might help.
@Joseph Waters it really helps to get that attack power up after genichiro. Because it's like u get a free one with the monkeys and u go from 3 to 5. That and the experience from fighting him should make u a better player. I know after genichiro I was doing way better and beating bosses in half the time. I feel like that was the fight that taught u how to play and that's why he's one of my favorites

I think they didn't make the animation match the English lines, I haven't seen it it Japanese but it probably looks better!
@@Ben-fk9ey Yup, in german, their mouth moves the same all the time, though. I really hope it's better in japanese. But since they deliver in terms of gameplay etc. I guess one can let that slip. The horrible intonation and pronunciation in the german dub, however ... Like they simply read it and only recored every line once til they were done. Never saw such a poor german dub.
The other gaming companies: What if we only completed part of the game and let the players test if it works or not?
It looks better in Japanese, the game is meant to be played in Japanese. I just use the subtitles, it sounds much better too.

I love this boss fight the most. Forget the deaths I endured to kill him, but the setting and stakes made me power through it.

From what I've seen, it's impossible to communicate how challenging the game is through boss vids. Like, you only get to see the players best attempt, and not the hours of learning patterns, timing, and attack cues. Couple that and your only option being the sword moveset, and your literal only option is to get gud enough to eke out a victory.

Divine Dragon gets the W in my opinion.
I almost quit the game because of this boss but finally beat him. Some smaller tips. Yes, you want to be aggressive, however I found alternating between one hit, then an immediate deflection was key. If you need to heal go far away from him. He will shoot an arrow and then roll into an attack. Very easy to time, so you really don't lose posture momentum. Third phase you just have to trust in yourself and try not to heal because most likely he will attack you during and you will gain nothing. Roll to his left, your right, the entire fight. Don't dodge too early when he is doing the lightning attack. Blocking will be the same as the other two forms except for two more powerful attacks usually in a row. Stay on him and constantly going right. Trust me this was frustrating but you can do it.
Sadly I've just quit due to this fucking boss, the game feels hard for the sake of being hard - I never had anything remotely close to the problems I'm having with this game in the Souls-Borne games. Also, I'm having massive control response issues, I've died thousands of times from my finger firmly pressed on the block button, only to get fucking hit! It keeps happening again and again and again, ordinary attacks by the way not the red danger symbol ones you can't block. It feels massively unfair actually.
The third phase, my advice is to mikuri counter when you can. Aside from that keep a medium ish range from him and and deflect his attacks when he sprints at you. After that I kept my distance and mikuri countered that lung attack and waited for his lightning strikes. Once he goes to do the lightning attacks just jump straight up and hit r1 on your way down and it'll do massive posture damage. Continue playing on the defensive and keeping a decent range from him till he does his lightning strikes and rush him (you'll get 3 hits in), then back away and repeat this process. It took me like 3-4 reversals to get him. I was at it for a solid 4-5 hours LOL but it was so worth it
The thing is, go aggressive and pay attention to his blocks. He will block your attacks at first, but then he will deflect one, and as soon as he deflects your attack, you go on a deflect spam spree because it’s his turn. It’s honestly like a rhythm game. You can see the guy in the video do this a lot actually, after he gets deflected, he instantly goes to block or deflect instead of continuing to attack. You know he deflects it instead of blocking because there is a brighter flash of light from his sword and the sound queue is different. Blocking: 2:27
Deflecting: 2:28
Listen to the difference and look at the difference in the flash when the swords connect.
And it’s not just like this with genichiro, but virtually every boss and some of the regular enemies. Once you figure that out (and break the dodge reflex habit if you’re a soulsborne vet because dodging itself is pretty much useless in this game), the game becomes much more manageable. The only difficult thing left will be kensei isshin himself.
@@dca8100his is the most anime game I’ve ever played in my life, and the combat is so satisfying, more so than any of the combat from the souls games in my opinion.

It took me only 3 tries to kill him and Lighting phase I did on first try with 1 estus left.
This is not as hard as people making it out. Just learn to parry.

When I learned the importance of parrying and the posture meter, the game became a bit easier.

It kinda is. All you have to do is just keep counter slashing while spamming block while timing it to hit the first and the last attacks. He keeps doing this one medium speed slash that doesn’t follow up after you deflect so deflect and counter slash, he usually does it twice, once on the right once on the left but that doesn’t matter. When he jumps, parry, Mikiri counter first phase, second phase just see where the sword shines, if it shines in front, Mikiri counter, behind or the left side, jump. Tbh if you can beat lady butterfly it just means you should be able to defeat him in a few tries

Genichiro is very fascinating. At the start, when you don't know shit about the game, he's scary and will probably wreck you in a single combo.......but then you meet him again after you've learned how insane infinite stamina really is. You stick close to him, observing his sword and the red kanji, deflect the absolute fuck out of everything and, just like that, you absolutely dominate him.
To me, he's the perfect example of how incredibly easy, but also super fun, this game is once you've learned how aggressive you can and have to be. Isshin speaks the truth: you'll die if you hesitate, so don't hesitate ever.

Dark souls: cowardly rolling behind a boss while he's attacking and give him some ass slaping. Running out of endurance while the boss never does and get struck by a blow that technically doesn't meant to hit.
Sekiro: Using your skills as a Shinobi, to fight bosses face to face with clashing steel and cool things like mikiri counter or prosthetic tools and getting moments like this 6:15.

Great graphics but too realistic for me. (My opinion i dont like realistic art style). Sekiro style is already fine for me (not too real + anime-ish but cool). But yeah it looks amazing though even Sekiro cant compare. Not sure abt the combat yet.

You can let the lightning hit you in air and press attack to hit it back before you land

Might be the only one but I took the first two phases out on the second try. 3rd phase threw me for enough a loop that I wasn't ready. Couldn't get the lightning deflection down.

Well, as a DS veteran I was quite confident while ascending the fortress. I beat the Fire Bull and Gyobu in one attempt until I met Genichiro, 2 of the npcs were afflicted with the Dragon Plague before I took him down. The rest of game will be fascinating.
