If Isshin was in love with Tomoe, that's also in a way "coming close to death." That said, I believe it's pretty well stated that Lady Tomoe was an Okami warrior woman and she came with Takeru from fountainhead palace. She was probably more human looking than the ones we meet there, but its not impossible that the level of corruption and dragonrot that has lead to the inhumanity of the nobles and warriors there is a relatively recent development. I saw a theory where the dragon's rot (which you symbolically cut out as the old dragons of the tree) was why Takeru and Tomoe got the hell out of Fountainhead. I really want more about them. And ROBERTO.
I'd really like to play as Genichiro in the dlc. It would be neat if it started after the midway fight with him and then you play as him searching for the black mortal blade
Jesus Christ could you fucking imagine fighting against Sekiro and all of his fucking ninja tools in the rice fields at the end??? It would be the end of my Sanity but I would revel in every waking minute of it
I'm going to share my notes regarding to Tomoe. There's no indication of Tomoe dying in the game, only a failed suicide attempt was mentioned. The second Okami Combat Arts indicates Tomoe was in love with Takeru, although whatever or not this feeling was mutual or not we do not know for certain. The Sakura Droplet we receive after defeating Lady Butterfly proofs that Tomoe severed her Dragon Oath with Takeru; indicating they went for the purification route (or something similar to Return), but Takeru being the one that loses his life. However, the mystery of why it end up in Lady Butterfly's possession, or rather hidden away by the Hirata family in the underground Buddha Shrine will probably never be answered. Regarding to the graves, it's most likely symbolic. I do not believe Takeru's physical body is there, even if it is it serves little importance. After the severance ritual Takeru states he returned to the divine realm in the aroma of the fountainhead may not just be a figure of speech. In the purification ending, Sekiro cuts himself, but rather than bleeding, sakura petals scatters into the sky. Could this be the essence/blood of the divine dragon? And does this apply to the physical body as well? The Ever Blossom Tree shares a strong link with the Divine Dragon, may even be the same entity. None the less, Tomoe would had brought his body back to Fountainhead Palace, which was Takeru's birthplace as hinted in a few occasion. Aromatic Flower item states: it was Takeru that brought forth the Ever Blossom branch from Fountainhead and planted it in Ashina castle. We have all the reasons to believe the mysterious Shrine Maiden in Fountainhead Sanctuary is none other than Tomoe herself. We do know she didn't die from the ritual, as Emma states only one of the two lives will be lost in the path of Purification. Two, she has access to Fountainhead being an Okami-warrior herself and collected the Divine Dragon Tear for the ritual, and even trained Genichiro there (Emma uttered something about him training in the storm of clouds with Tomoe). As for why she's at the sanctuary? Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe she brought Takeru's essence back to the Divine Dragon in cradle form, or his essence is in part with the Divine Dragon now, and she sees Takeru in her dream? Remember, Tomoe was infatuated with Takeru. Side note, I also believe Tomoe, (if the Shrine Maiden is indeed Tomoe) had the Black Mortal Blade at her possession, and Genichiro went to obtain it after retreating from Ashina Castle; realizing the Mortal Blade is needed to kill Sekiro. No evidence to support this claim, just a hunch. After all, that slab of rock or altar at the sanctuary had to hold something of significance. We had to fetch the stone, flower and the other Mortal Blade before getting access to Fountainhead Palace, thus explains why we don't get to see Genichiro at Fountainhead. Also, Isshin is a master of martial arts and learned Tomoe's techniques after fighting her, I do not think he inherited the way of lightning because he spawned from Gen's body. The real question is why is a Sword Saint's strongest asset is a spear??? And a glock17 sidearm. Anyways, it's quite possible Isshin was suffering from the wound he received from Tomoe, and dies as a result. Or at least a major contribution to his demise. Feel free to disagree, I'm open to other perspectives.
+Ein with shades I think that the reason why Isshin uses a spear is because of his fight with General Tamura, the one he defeated in the cg trailer. He probably picked up the spear after the fight, as he came to recognize it's power. The same might be said of his use of Tomoe's lightning techniques. He might have picked them up after his near death experience with Tomoe. I mean it was stated that he sought all kinds of techniques at some point in his life, if I remember correctly.
As far as I could tell you can only get the divine dragon tear with the "Gracious Gift of Tears" mortal blade;however, seeing as she could not find it she could not complete either rite. Which is where their quest ended.
They definitely got hold of the black mortal blade. Though the game specifically stated that you need the red one for immortal severance. It is possible that they used the black one for purification and Takeru did indeed return to the divine realm and died there as a human.
Might it be that both can be used to kill the undying, but only the black one can open a gate to the underworld, and only the red one can obtain the dragons tears?
I wonder why Genichiro summoned Isshin at the end... does he consider Isshin stronger than Tomoe? Or is Tomoe still alive and thus can't be summoned using the underworld sword?
Yes - I believe it is the latter, he summons his grandfather from beyond the grave. Isshin also represents everything Genichiro desires - a strong Ashina
When Isshin say's "I was completely taken by Her and it almost killed Me" in My opinion it's a double meaning He was taken by Her beauty(She may have looked more human facially) fell in love with Her, also He was taken by Her Martial Prowess. That how I'd perceived Tomoe.
@penalcrack its not even mysterious like ds or bb, things just are. It doesnt feel like unique story telling. Quite honestly, it feels like lazy/rushed lore hidden behind the illusion of mystery and intrigue. I fucking hate it.
Tomoe was a real female warrior in Japanese history and she was described as being very tall and beautiful so, it's not far fetched to assume that it was a love at first sight type scenario lol
if u come back after the divine dragon fight and tries to talk with the woman on the altar, it just says “the shrine maiden is deep asleep”... so not much clue there, for now... still trying to sweep all corners of the game’s world myself as we all know how miyazaki mostly tells his stories thru hidden quests, hidden NPCs, or item descriptions and locations for the dlc, this is my guess... the plot follows the “return” ending, and the setting would either be europe or china (china is west of japan after all, and has a lot of history with dragons)... and we’ll get to see either or both tomoe and the robert the armor guy mentions also, hopefully emma would be back
We should’ve had that lightning attack as a metal rod prosthetic. Idc if it cost 5 spirit emblems, as long as it could paralyze the enemy, it would’ve been worth it. Missed opportunity.
Just found your lore channel and I gotta say, even though you prolly hear this a lot, I though you at least had like 200k subs, the videos are high quality and well narrated, good shit my guy
I don't think tomoe was like the Okami Warriors, I think all of them changed with the experiments for attaining immortality. The old lady in fountainhead palace is the only one that looks human, and she says that everyone was corrupted with promisses of nobility and immortality. That's another interesting story.
Something interesting about Takeru, from some of his description from Emma he sounds a bit like a Palace Noble, one description mentions him watching Tomoe dancing under the Everblossom while...and get this, playing a flute. This sounds like a scene that came straight outta the Fountain Head Palace(except he's not crazed and trying to steal her life essence..or is he..?)
While I'm not committed to this I do find it very interesting. The game seems to put alot of effort into making sure the player knows he wasn't just simply wanting to go home, it was something much deeper than that by reading item/skill descriptions. He had a very strong connection with the D Realm, more than what you'd expect from someone who simply wants to go back home. Hopefully I was able to convey my thoughts on it without making it sound like something I don't actually mean, I suck at explaining things like that without feeling like I explained it wrongly and made it sound like something entirely different than what I actually mean.
genichiro, the okami babes and sekiro have the same attack sequence called spiral cloud passage. it's the same exact move, if you pay attention close enough you'll see what i'm talking about. this is also the same movement as floating passage. if you try to do spiral cloud while you have no emblems you perform floating passage.
Hey man, great video, but I think it would be a good idea to work on your delivery. The way the tone and pitch varies the exact same way in every sentence is a bit annoying and sounds unnatural. Try delivering the lines in a more natural way. The content itself is great tho! Subscribed.
SmoughTown I used to work in radio, and we would have to read off scripts quite a lot. A good trick they taught me to sound more natural on air is to put up a picture of someone you love, like your mother or something, and have a conversation with her. This little trick definitely helped my rise and fall of my voice to sound much more natural
@@SmoughTown i would prefer a more natural tone :) not so many pitch varies as xMinteee said haha like the way you spoke at the end of the video :D keep up the great job making this videos man! :) its awesome that you want to improve!
The Old Grave is empty later in the game, noticed after I tried to fight Demon of Hatred. I forgot to check it before but from the video looks like it is not empty. Unless I saw a different grave lol
4:05 incorrect. Isshin seems to not have any direct powerbuff from Genichiro rather Isshin seems to be a collector of techniques and skills as he is the only character to master multiple weapons and using them in harmony. He is a Sword Saint and so is the culmination of all manner of techniques. Only such a man can establish a new nation like Ashina
I doubt that Tomoe achieved the severance. You need the mortal blade we use to get the dragons tears, which you use for the severance. The red blade is even called „the gracious gift of tears“. Tomoe only found the black blade - named „open gate“ as it opens the gate to the underworld, which is proven by the final boss. She searched high and low but the red blade was hidden by the monks, so she never found it. She probably fought the Devine Dragon with the black blade, maybe that’s why he is crippled. She could however never acquire the tear and therefore failed in her quest as it is necessary for every ending (except Shura).
It is stated that Isshin was falling for Tomoe but if she looks anything like the majority of those inhabbiting the divine realm then beauty is indeed in the eyes of the beholder. I collected the text for floating passage before fighting Genichiro so after hearing that Tomoe was his mentor it only made sense to theorize that this mad his sword style distinct from others of the Ashina school. Although it has been a year now I'll still be interested in seeing DLC content of Lady Tomoe.
The people in the divine realm only look like that because of drinking the divine water. Tomoe has true immortality and as such would just look like human.
I was waiting for some lore videos regarding Tomoe so thanks for it man. It could be great if Lady Tomoe will appear in upcomming DLC - maybe we will be able to find another Bell for Budda statue to offer? And it will take us back when Lady Tomoe and Lord Takuro lives and they were trying to break immortality? Just my thoughts
I like to think isshin knew the way of tomoe as well. He just was to old and frail to utilize it. When he resurrects its clear he recognizes you and has his old man consciousness. I feel with his prime body he could go fully and use it
There are a LOT of things wrong and/or misrepresented in this video, I'm not gonna write them all out but for one that was indeed Tomoe and ?Takura?'s (I forget now) grave, Emma explicitly says so when you meet her there and before she goes there, also you just glossed over how it's clearly been dug up recently, which could definitely be an important part of what is going on currently with either Genichiro or the Interior Ministry
Then it makes a lot of sense, how genichiro would have the black mortal blade. It's because tomoe got her hand on it first for the immortal severance and maybe "passing" it to her student.
@@ghoulish6125 not entirely but I know which combo string you're talking about. It's reminiscent of the floating passing move but he's developed a more aggressive version
Can somebody help me? (Spoilers) . . . . . . . . At the end of the game you can get three different endings (so far?). Except sura ofcourse. To get them you have to choose: -give Kuro tears of divine dragon; -give Kuro tears of divine dragon and frozen tears; -give Kuro tears of divine dragon and everblossom. After I finished the game I watched Lobos's first playthrough and at the and he have only one choice "give Kuro tears of divine dragon" But in my playthrough I have two choices: -give Kuro tears of divine dragon; -dont give Kuro tears of divine dragon (might be different, I play in Russian language). It was "dont give", not choice to give Kuro another tears or something. I choose first one and never see what the second one do. Is there another secret ending? Because it can't be choice for close dialogue (you can press B) or stay in game (you have that opportunity after cutscene). What was that?
Do you have some explaination for the apparition nightjars that appear in either the sunken valley or mibu village once you beat the boss of the other? I've allways wondered why they're there
In the loading screens it teases these spirits: 'At night vengeful spirits appear' or something. I went to Mibu really early last playthrough and there were no spirits. Also if you explore at the end of the game there are spirits of enemies you have previously killed everywhere. So they are spirits that come out at night - most probably the spirits of people we personally have killed.
SmoughTown Are you talking about exploring after beating the game, before starting NG+? If so that might make me explore a little after beating it again just to see if those I've killed really start to haunt the area.
I wonder if they'll refer to her by her historical name, Tomoe Gozen, in the (probably coming) DLC. Anyway, great video! I'm just wondering if you changed something script-writing wise, in some parts your speech seemed more fragmented in odd locations than I seem to recall.
Am I the only one that thinks Tomoe and Takeru appeared human? Like they left the palace soon after the dragon arrived and by the time Tomoe went back for the tears everyone had had enough water to become fish people? So the Okami were all once normal humans?
@Mikko Lopez ya most likely answer is it was stolen. Genichiro still cuts your arm off and more interesting thought is if you play as a nightjar like the one that distracted you with shuriken but that's too resident evil 2 for my taste I didn't like that kind of dlc. I have different serious post about dlc lol
I have to go do some digging now you got me thinking how much did isshin know of the mortal blades he knew of one but which one. He does mention that each time Genichiro draws the blade his health gets worse... Why? Why is he connected like that to the blade. Isshin did sound remorseful when realizing that Genichiros mortal blade was connected to underworld which he could feel as such because he knows sekiro will beat him and knows what Genichiro will wish for depending on isshin knowledge of blades... Like I said these are theories and I need to refresh memory
I need more omg this is the best from game ever made my favorite game ever made tbh it is so perfect I hope we have DLC also you give me the lore I love and need I would love to know more about the divine dragon and the land in the west
I have a theory that Owl had something to do with the downfall of Tomoe and Takeru since he has the Aromatic branch that for some reason he stole or took from takerus tree I think Owl was responsible for their downfall and deaths he even tries to pull the same shit on Sekiro and Kuro but it didn't work out this time and he also killed genichiro Aka tomoes student with such ease in the Shura ending so he definitely fought Tomoe before
The video got me thinking about dlc and I wouldn't be surprised if dlc will involve tomoe. She must be alive since they speak of her in present tense. Another possible dlc could be dosunn or the evil doc in abandoned dungeon as I feel like they left those story's as if there will be more about them or their "school." I know they leave story open a lot in fromsoft but these just feel like something they will expand on.
Defo my thoughts, from what we know of FromSoftware, she fits the bill of tertiary characters who are drip fed through the story but we don't actually meet. I.e. Artorias, Alonne, Ludwig, Laurence etc.
@Mikko Lopez Chances are that Tomoe doesn't look like the Okami, considering their eyes, if they look like the men, would just be hollowed out sockets, which is probably not something Isshin would infatuated by.

Please just speak normally as you did at the end of the video. That would sound much better

+Ein with shades
I think that the reason why Isshin uses a spear is because of his fight with General Tamura, the one he defeated in the cg trailer.
Drawek it’s said in gyoubus memory that Isshin gave Tamuras spear to Gyoubu
They definitely got hold of the black mortal blade. Though the game specifically stated that you need the red one for immortal severance. It is possible that they used the black one for purification and Takeru did indeed return to the divine realm and died there as a human.
I thought this as well! It is probably how Genichiro knew where to find it!
The black mortal blade doesn’t have the ability to kill the undying. Its purpose is for resurrection
Might it be that both can be used to kill the undying, but only the black one can open a gate to the underworld, and only the red one can obtain the dragons tears?
4:04 of you look closely you can see that isshin just simply catches lighting with his spear
Tomoe is such a mysterious and imposing figure within the background that they need to include a fight with her in the DLC
*Slowly utters phrase, gasps for life, repeat
That how I'd perceived Tomoe.
man, I really like your content. You just need to stop those weird pauses you do every other word. It's very annoying after awhile
I'll consider revising the speaking style, thank you

Lil Thanos Calm down kid.
Kinda seems like she was supposed to be a DLC character or something. But clearly there wasn't one.
I don't think that Isshin was almost literally killed by her but that he fell in love with her which almost became his downfall.
Hmm that's a VERY interesting take, defo could be possible.
@Mikko Lopez Well... she had pretty eyes lol. I wouldn't be surprised if Tomoe was Genichiro's grandma.
Tomoe was a real female warrior in Japanese history and she was described as being very tall and beautiful so, it's not far fetched to assume that it was a love at first sight type scenario lol

Thanks my friend. More to come!
if u come back after the divine dragon fight and tries to talk with the woman on the altar, it just says “the shrine maiden is deep asleep”... so not much clue there, for now... still trying to sweep all corners of the game’s world myself as we all know how miyazaki mostly tells his stories thru hidden quests, hidden NPCs, or item descriptions and locations
for the dlc, this is my guess... the plot follows the “return” ending, and the setting would either be europe or china (china is west of japan after all, and has a lot of history with dragons)... and we’ll get to see either or both tomoe and the robert the armor guy mentions
also, hopefully emma would be back
Robert is the armored warrior's son. He got bodied by the dudes in senpou temple during experiments
@@tywatchesvideos i know he's the armor guy's son... but i haven't noticed anything directly implying he's somewhere in the game
Thanks Bro - that's really encouraging to hear :)
I don't think tomoe was like the Okami Warriors, I think all of them changed with the experiments for attaining immortality. The old lady in fountainhead palace is the only one that looks human, and she says that everyone was corrupted with promisses of nobility and immortality. That's another interesting story.
Never getting this dlc saddens me

When first I heard of Lady Tomoe's name, I thought of her as the fame Tomoe Gozen...
I believe they bargained with Isshin after learning of his mortal blade. This is why Tomoe is accepted by him / Genichiro’s mentor.
best sekiro lore channel
I'm also sure tomoe is gonna have more lightning moves too like stuff we're gonna be forced to dodge
Hey man, great video, but I think it would be a good idea to work on your delivery. The way the tone and pitch varies the exact same way in every sentence is a bit annoying and sounds unnatural. Try delivering the lines in a more natural way. The content itself is great tho! Subscribed.
Thanks for the feedback and the subscription! - i'll try to find a fine line between clear delivery and sounding more natural
I really like smough videos but his tone is so annoying to me as a non english speaker ;;

I really enjoy your lore videos. Keep it up !
Louis Berard thanks my friend! I love making them
i thank u for the sekiro lore!
You are welcome friend
I need more lore on that divine dragon.
Tomoe is malenia from elden ring.
Who is the corpse found at the shrine going to the divine dragon boss? Could that be tomoe?
It could be maybe she was after the dragon tears for takeru but didn't make it aw that's sad to think about
its not a corpse. she's sleeping
dlc has to be on tomoe! believe it!
Sekiro literally says how you pronounce it. Tomo-e
I feel with his prime body he could go fully and use it
How would severance be achieved if you can't get the tears using the black mortal blade? :(
Why couldn't Tomoe get the Mortal Blade? She had trouble with the monkeys boss fight? 🤣
It would be awesome if we get a dlc where we see Tomoe, fight her, and get a lightning combat upon beating her
Then it makes a lot of sense, how genichiro would have the black mortal blade. It's because tomoe got her hand on it first for the immortal severance and maybe "passing" it to her student.
Tomoe never found the blade or achieved immortal severance though
Tomoe may be the woman below the dragon, and the dragon may be takeru, that would be interesting
Oof that floating passage move is gonna be in lady tomoe's boss moveset I just know it
Doesn't Genechiro use a part of it in his combo as well?
@@ghoulish6125 not entirely but I know which combo string you're talking about. It's reminiscent of the floating passing move but he's developed a more aggressive version
Isn't Lord Takeru that dead child you find in that cave in which you have to pray in order to access the Divine Dragon boss?
at one point tomoe said takeru's coughing is getting worse. i wonder what that hints
I know - I wonder if the Dragon's Heir can stagnate
@@SmoughTown if his blood is stagnating wouldnt that mean people around him are the ones who should be coughing? not the other way round

At the end of the game you can get three different endings (so far?). Except sura ofcourse.
To get them you have to choose:
-give Kuro tears of divine dragon;
-give Kuro tears of divine dragon and frozen tears;
-give Kuro tears of divine dragon and everblossom.
After I finished the game I watched Lobos's first playthrough and at the and he have only one choice "give Kuro tears of divine dragon"
But in my playthrough I have two choices:
-give Kuro tears of divine dragon;
-dont give Kuro tears of divine dragon (might be different, I play in Russian language).
It was "dont give", not choice to give Kuro another tears or something.
I choose first one and never see what the second one do.
Is there another secret ending? Because it can't be choice for close dialogue (you can press B) or stay in game (you have that opportunity after cutscene).
What was that?
And even if you look at the scripts it’s not a human doing the moves it’s one of those okami beings👀
Do you have some explaination for the apparition nightjars that appear in either the sunken valley or mibu village once you beat the boss of the other? I've allways wondered why they're there
I assumed they were spirit who deliver karmic justice on you for all the killings.
@@SmoughTown but i didn't kill any nightjar in that playthrough. It may just assume that you did tho, idk
@@bjrnalmlof6128 Could be - or it doesn't need to be ones you have killed personally. Just 'angry' spirits.

I'm just wondering if you changed something script-writing wise, in some parts your speech seemed more fragmented in odd locations than I seem to recall.
awesome videos. you should play with Japanese voice acting! they sound so animated in English
Am I the only one that thinks Tomoe and Takeru appeared human? Like they left the palace soon after the dragon arrived and by the time Tomoe went back for the tears everyone had had enough water to become fish people? So the Okami were all once normal humans?
ANOTHER THOUGHT how did Genichiro get the other mortal blade
If you check the chest right beside isshins tower there is a text that speaks of a black mortal blade and I think how to get it
Memory dlc? Play as genichiro and final boss sekiro and cutting off his arm.
Spoilers below
Jokes aside how does owl have it in shura ending?
@Mikko Lopez ya most likely answer is it was stolen. Genichiro still cuts your arm off and more interesting thought is if you play as a nightjar like the one that distracted you with shuriken but that's too resident evil 2 for my taste I didn't like that kind of dlc. I have different serious post about dlc lol
@@PennywiseTheDancingClown274 maybe when you were fighting emma/isshin, Owl whooped genichiro's ass and took the black mortal blade lol
Takeru is the body you see just before the Divine Dragon right?

@@thatguitarguy9157 I agree man - the Shura ending has so many conflicting feels! Epic
Definitely gonna be a dlc final boss
Reminder that Tengu is Isshin in disguise
I feel like I’m cheating on Vaatividya when I’m watching this
Same but I’ll still watch his lore videos too if he makes any for sekiro
Tomoe is probably a dlc boss
Maybe the girl on the rock just before the divine dragon was tomoe ?
@Mikko Lopez Chances are that Tomoe doesn't look like the Okami, considering their eyes, if they look like the men, would just be hollowed out sockets, which is probably not something Isshin would infatuated by.
Malenia?
I really like the video but it seems like there is a comma after every few words
