- When a brutal U.S. Marshal arrests one of the Ponderosa's workers for murder to transport him to Los Angeles for trial, and a doubtful Hoss and Adam come along in the stagecoach, along with a Dr. and his beautiful daughter, to make sure the Marshal doesn't kill him before they get there. The question also arises later of whether the ranch worker is really guilty and dangerous after all.

Interesting thing about this episode how things turned around. The Marshall wasn't a bad guy and Dave Walker turned out to be the culprit after all.

It's seems the Marshall wasn't a bad guy after all
He had turned into a bad guy (at least in this particular criminal case) because of what had happened to his wife. But like he said at the ending, Adam helped him to see the errors of his abusive ways.
Although The Marshall had a big chip on his shoulder because Walker pushed his wife in his line of fire and trusted nobody He seemed to know. Adam could be trusted giving him his badge to take Walker to LA to stand trial after being badly wounded Sounds like the Marshall wasn't a bad guy after all the tragedy of his wife made him snap

So was he a murderer or not? Why was the Marshall wanting to shoot David the first time when David put the Marshall's wife in the line of fire?
He tells about it at 35:10. He said he was trying to get Dave to to LA to stand trial for the murder of a paymaster, but Dave escaped by throwing the marshal's wife 'Cora' in the line of fire.
