Hi. The positive wire to the choke comes from the ignition coil. It is colored in purple and becomes live (12 V) when the ignition key is turned into ON or START. Its function is to heat up the choke coil so to gradually open the choke valve after approximately one - one and a half minute after the motor has been started from cold condition and keep it open for the time the motor will be running. When you switch off the motor it will have no more tension so to let the choke coil cool down and the choke valve close. Since the heat is drawn also from the whole motor, it will take a couple of hours before the choke valve would be able to close again.
Hi Capt. Steve! Great video. Can you recommend somewhere to get spareparts for this in EU? I need a new Termostatic coil and gasket. I see many places in US having 2GC sparepart do you know if they will fit?
Hi Peter. I think you can get spare parts from any Volvo Penta dealer. The problem might be that many of them are expired. But you will find a lot of them on the web also. Get first of all the spare part schematics, for instance from marinepartsexpress.com, and then look for the part number you need. Start from you local VP dealer and then try on the web. Carburator has part number 841048. Thermostatic coil has part number 834987. The gasket is usually included in the overhaul kit 841994. Good luck. Best regards.
Hi Capt. Steve! Like your videos. Why I'm looking is because I also have a AQ211a. Now I have some problems starting it. It got fuel and the starter works. After letting the starter work for the engine sounds like it starts but just for a second or two - and its rushing. Any clue of what might be the problem?
Hi Glenn. Might be quite a lot of reasons. Try to sort them out through a process of elimination. Do you have spark? Is timing correct? Do you have the right amount of fuel at carburetor? May be the carburetor calls for a complete overhaul. May be the distributor needs new cap and rotor. May be just simply gas is contaminated with water. Try to understand first of all whether it is a fuel or electrical problem and then proceed accordingly. Good luck!
Hello, Nice videos. I got a AQ211 in my boat also, my question is, do you have a electronic ignition conversation kit installed? If you do, do you recommend it? what brand?
Hi. Yes, I installed a Pertronix electronic ignition kit a few years ago. Great investment. Quite straightforward operation. No more maintenance required, no more points wearing out. Improved performance. I strongly recommend it.
Yes of course. You do not need it any more. In Pertronix box you will find all instructions necessary. You can also download them from the Web if you want to see them in advance
Thanks for video, can u tell me where the positive wire from your choke to ?.

Ok, can you please tell me the model of the Petronix, or do you know what brand the distributor is on a AQ211
I used Pertronix Ignitor II part. n. 91582 + 45000 V Flame tower II coil part. n. 45111. You can find easily on the web. I bought from UK.
After you installed it, did you remove the Ballast Resistor?
Yes of course. You do not need it any more. In Pertronix box you will find all instructions necessary. You can also download them from the Web if you want to see them in advance
