Video about story boarding a project before you shoot anything would be an eye opener. Keep Creating your changing the world.
Great idea! Thank you 👊✌
You have no idea how great a deep dive series would be. With included media to follow along and get a better understanding through practical work? That sounds perfect. Cutting to the beat establishes rhythms viewers pick up on even if the music is taken away. Though it was interesting how you cut on the beat AND action in some places. Nice touch.
Still learning here, and masks and qualifiers are becoming some of my favorite tools in DaVinci color grading. I like how you used them to subtly pull focus onto Shawn's face. Speaking of which, I had no clue a water bottle was in the car until you pointed it out.
Thank you Chuck!! I really appreciate the kind words 🙏 full breakdown coming soon 👊✌
The suggestion of cutting to the music is pure genius! The cuts feel very smooth and comfortable because I believe it works on a subliminal level. Everyone has a natural sense of music and musical timing, and cutting to the music just "feels right", even if the viewer is unaware of the method. Outstanding video!
Yes absolutely I need more
Coming soon! 👊✌
I totally welcome a deep dive in your process! Absolutely! Great post Marcel!
I cant believe I've only found you now.. Your tutorials are AMAZING! Thank you :)
Thank you Mandy 😭 you are too kind! 👊✌
Awesome tutorial! Excited to watch your future uploads featuring the Da Vinci tutorials you mentioned at the end of this video! Thanks!👊
“Props” 😂
Really well done, enjoyed every minute of it. I learned so much in such little time. Thanks a ton for putting this together. Really, awesome job.
Thank you Timothy 🙏 I appreciate you taking the time to leave such kind words. 👊✌
A series of this would be awesome!
Ur just the most underrated resolve creator out theare ur motion graphics and this type of videos are really helpful filmmakers who use resolve
Seem you are doing with your color grade, what a decent cinematographer would have done on set with lighting.
Exactly! Most of my videos are about how to enhance footage with Davinci Resolve. Most people who are learning don't know how to create perfect footage and these tips can be helpful 😁✌
Looking good Marcel! Looking forward to Marcel Wick next!
Thank you Tim!
Awesome video. Thanks for the great content. Always🙏🏽
Thank you Aaron! I really appreciate the kind words 👊✌
That was really good. Would love to see and learn more 👌
Love this. Thank you.
Thank you for the comment 👊✌
Yes, please! More of this sort of tutorials! :-)
You got it Peter!! Many more Shane Wick tutorials to come
thank you for this
Thank you for the comment 👊✌
Hiya Marcel, Love the vids your doing with instruction with Da-Vinci Resolve, my problem is the Interface being Black with grey text, is there a way of changing the Interface to a colour scheme that I wouldn't find so tiring on my eyes, cheers.
whoa whoa whoa Marcel, i bet your environment is perfect for YOU! you could probably do that edit any where you can get into the zone man! your node grid is out standing.. I can see how i can apply my photoshop experience to video with what you showed there with the qualifiers. Your use of lens flare was great.. @13:53 you made me laugh "Shane Wick has such a dope garage it glows blue at all times" yeah and kind of smokey too! (BA man BA) the sound design and the re-recording of the things being used and the environmentals (space ECT) make you feel like you are in that garage with a sinister individual or at the very least some one VERY serious. @16:53 you said it perfectly "really, what that situation would have sounded like" THAT is the whole key! you always need some enhancements into the audio track. by using the space sound as the ambient you turned just the normal background noise into something more musical. John Cage (prepared piano and strumming the piano harp probably the quintessential horror sound) said he loved to go out and listen to traffic because it sounded different every day. Really good stuff. Man that sets the tone.. not only the visual but the SOUND also tells the story too. People are uncomfortable with not hearing any sounds, silence has a place but it is always interrupted by sound. People have a subconscious catalogue of sound and their meaning in there minds. So when telling a story the addition of a stray sound brings things to mind that are not always obvious. Your sounds though contrived (sorry wish i had a better word there) add a lot to direction you want the view to think in, it adds tension. and tension is good... Tension is good, Hmmm @20:06 yea may be better one thing you did do.. is as i hard your sounds and music choice i started hearing a mix... (yea i am an audio guy too, i have done a lot of concert recording, and streaming ECT) i can debate that with you, cause you did do an outstanding job. you are a hoot man.. not timed well LOL its ambience that is the beauty, while he is working his foot moves and that generates ambient reverb.. lets you know you are in an open space SO COOL.. LOL WHOA seriously the helicopter sound wow it is like evil or the ghosts of the dead are passing trough the scene MAN is that awesome.. wow i love the breakdown of what you did... WHAT! coins and leather back sounded to me in context like the draw ball bearings and bullets shaking in the case.. BRAVO foley man foley DUDE @22:58- 23:15 you are a genius you are like a pit bull with a bone you just have to keep at it.. I LOVE IT... Looks like you love what you do and it is fun to you .. awesome man... Makes me what to be ALL IN .. thanks < J
Thank you Jeff!! This is like a breakdown of my breakdown 🤣😁 it means a lot that you would take the time to leave your encouraging thoughts about this video bro 👊✌
Great video.Thanks and subscribe :)
Really insightful video Marcel. So good to hear your creative process and some really great techniques.
Any chance on a small video about the lighting techniques in this scene please? Really worked well and looked great.
Thanks again. Appreciated.
Thank you for the kind words 😁 I will be releasing a full breakdown soon and will explain the lighting as well 👊✌
@@TheModernFilmmaker Thanks. Much appreciated. You achieved alot here. Very inspiring.
So fire 🔥 how did you learn all this what book ? And do you mind sending it to me if it’s digital. I need to learn fast.
Ty for this its awesome! Btw what aperture did you shoot those shots if you remember? Also what lens is it
I shot this on a BMPCC6K with the SIGMA 18-35, most shots were at f1.8
Hi Marcel,
Thank you for all your videos.
I am getting ready to upgrade from v16 free version to v17 free version. I am on a mac computer.
I am confused about whether to uninstall v16 before I upgrade to v17 OR whether to install v17 over v16 without uninstalling v17 first.
It seems there are many different opinions out there on which way is best.
I just do not want to run into unforeseen problems.
What do you do? Do you think there is any difference or one way is better than the other way?
Thanks for any help with this.
Sorry for the late response on this 😬 this is a good question. I would not uninstalling the old version. I think it is best to just install the new version and it will take care of getting rid/overwriting the old files and keep your project database intact. 👊✌
I want to do a small scene like that base on Red Hood from batman. I have some ideas for it, then you posted this and I'm like "This is what I want to do". Uploading that footage and working on it with your guidance would be fun and learning experience for anyone to have, specially me.
Thank you Evil Monkey!! The full breakdown is coming soon 👍 a scene based on Red Hood would be sick 😷👊✌
would love a deep dive to follow along and replicate. Thank you!
Coming up!!
@@TheModernFilmmaker thank you do have any videos or tips for new editors, or can point me in the direction of where to learn?

@@TheModernFilmmaker thank you so much, really struggling with information overload all over youtube! Just want everything condensed. Thanks for your help!
It looks like you moved the camera for every shot and shot in sequence. No sign of a master shot, etc. So that makes it easy to edit. Does Resolve work for multitrack video editing, too?
Yes this was very run and gun with simple lighting setups. It was shot in sequence just like you would shoot with a storyboard. Definitely an easy edit when you already know the techniques used like speed ramping, sound design, etc... Resolve works great with multiple tracks both for video and audio. If you are meaning "multicam" edits I have a video around the best ways to edit multicam ua-cam.com/video/4qffobTav7g/v-deo.html
@@TheModernFilmmaker Thanks, I don't mean multi cam. I mean shooting a scene for TV or a film. Multiple setups. Doing a master shot, closeups, inserts, etc. The while scene shot with various angles and camera setups. Multiple takes.
I'm curious to see those added to a timeline and how easy it is to switch video tracks to edit your scene.
I imagine there's a way to line them all up and highlight which portions of which track you want to use in your final edit.
Nice man. Can I ask a question! What makes the camera work make it not look like a multi million dollar production? I mean I'm asking the equivalent of asking the meaning of life but seriously......... what is it!.... answer that question for me and your my hero. Its been stumping me for years this one. I'm an intelligent guy but I'm left wanting trying to define this. Is it just meticulous shot decisions or lighting or what. Of course money is involved but also particular properties
This is a very good question! Essentially what makes a multi million dollar production is everything the multi millions is paying for...
A "real" movie set would have several departments(set design, wardrobe, lighting, camera operators, gaffers, directors) each department has its own team, some departments have departments inside them with their own teams... Every person, in every team, in every department is there to make every single frame look picture perfect. Hundreds of the best creatives in the world all working together to make one piece of art. 😁 👊✌
Maybe an Anamorphic lens could give the footage an extra cinematic push!
A 500w-2500w key light, a backlight and a fill light could also contribute.
I also believe a camera slider and or a film dolly can create fluid movement to enhance the footage.
A lens with F 1.4-F 2.8 can create nice background blur, too. Maybe pulling focus to switch between Shane and the gun/bullets can bring out that million dollar production look.
Nevertheless, the Black Magic 6K is an amazing camera with major potential to shoot Hollywood caliber films.
Stabilizing the Black Magic on a camera slider with two C-stands/light stands will add some nice movement. Moreover, a DJI or Zhiyun gimbal could also work to create that Hollywood look.
There are so many ways to be creative in this scene. Shooting overhead and/or closeup on Shane’s eyes would be awesome. For the most part, I really enjoyed the quality footage, edits, sound design and pacing of this scene!

On it 👊 thanks for the comment ✌️
