It's enjoyable to watch you and your dad working together. You guys are getting it done! Your Saxon House build is coming along nicely. Looking forward to part 6.

The term tinderbox is named after its exact purpose of carrying tinder (any material that's easily combustible) and other fire starting materials. The term tinder comes from the old english "tynder" and it from the old english "tendan" which is a form of "atendan". Atendan literally met "to set on fire". This was ultimately from the Proto-Germainc "tund" meaning "ignite, kindle". So tund becomes tendan and then tynder in old english and eventually to tinder. An example of prehistoric European tinder was the tinder fungus (Fomes fomentarius, which gets its name from fovimentum which is latin verb for "keep warm") which was used to make Amadou. Pim van den Berg well that’s because Proto-Germanic is like the Grandfather to the current Germanic languages (English, German, Dutch, Swedish, etc) so they all have similar words like that.

I've read and heard some talks about the value of nails in the early American settler days. Of course is not nearly as old as what you guys are recreating, but when they would get ready to leave a place and move across the country, they would burn their houses down just so they could sift through the ashes and collect all the nails to take with them to use in the future. Consider: Your roof frame will accept panels that you can make on the ground and then hook on the already present rods at the ridge. No climbing. If you line your roof panels with heavy canvas stitched to a frame they will even be water tight. Bo.
Closing in on that 1M, congrats! Great to see theory time again :) Tinder box/kit was found already from the Iceman Ötzi, so in terms of functionality it has been there for a loooooong time. Dunno about the etymology though.
I liked what you said towards the end there about the goal of a human being is to make your life easier. I’ve found that personally you develop more and learn more when put under pressure. Convenience isn’t always best. I’m sure you learn so much from the projects you do in the woods and tackling these project with power tools for example would remove obstacles that you’ve learned to overcome. Everyone enjoys an easy life but that old saying of pushing your comfort zone is true. You learn from struggle and knowledge is the true goal of a human being..... I love your videos guys, keep up the awesome content!
Hello from South Tyrol! I live in the valley where they found „Ötzi“ the man from the ice... He had a tinderpouch already more than 5300 years ago and a birchbark box with wich he transported coals in fresh maple leaves keeping them glowing with blowing on them from time to time. The scientists found a whole bunch of tinder material and other cool stuff. I‘m not an expert but I think the word tinder has his origins in the german word „Zunder
I absolutely love that wheel barrow! How cool! You all are doing such a good job! I haven't had my DNA checked but will be soon. I think I'm some part Native American (I'm in the USA)

it’s SO SATISFYING watching you strip the bark like wow i didn’t know i could be this satisfied watching something so simple
There is deffo something therapeutic about watching long strips of bark getting pealed. The Saxon house is looking great.
I absolutely love that wheel barrow! How cool! You all are doing such a good job! I haven't had my DNA checked but will be soon. I think I'm some part Native American (I'm in the USA)
Good job as always. I'm half Austrian and half Irish. Made in the USA. Can't wait to see you guys on some summer camping and fishing trips.

Swamp Valley cheers! I was chuffed to hear about my history
1) I completely understand your reasoning for using nails vs. lashing material :D 2) I have to agree with the woodbark scraping being therapeutic IF you can get into a rhythm 3) I am lmbo about how excited your Dad is about the invention of the wheel!
Fish and chips and Merlot? Now that's what I call roughing it!
