  • Here is how you fix a non working odometer and gear selector display (PRND321). It is very simple, just remove the cluster and find a bad solder on the wire going to the odometer/gear selector display. (Most likely going to be the top wire/solder that is broken as shown in the video) This applies to 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 Chevy s10, Blazer, and Silverado trucks (Sonoma, Jimmy, Sierra).

You saved me a lot of money with your pointing out the bad connection on the circuit board. No one sells a replacement 1998 Blazer instrument cluster any longer. Being able to locate the problem with the bad solder connection and eliminating my blank odometer read out issue was incredibly helpful. Thank you very much! My instrument cluster is back working like it should!

True but there's a website that can repair them but it's pricey

@Serjio Blockus With a magnifying glass, soldering gun and solder, repairing the cracks in the joints is so easy. Removing the cluster may be the hard part for some folks without a mechanical ability.

Well thought out and presented. Of all the similar videos like this, I've never heard any narrator mention changing out the bulbs while he had the instrument cluster out. Seems like new bulbs would be brighter than those 20 year old bulbs. Besides being cheap (the bulbs) it's called preventive maintenance. Now go back in there and change out those bulbs :)

2001 chevy blazer 4.3 v6 LT 4WD. For me it was the main dash box connection under the glove box behind the black access panels. Use a 7mm socket or driver to tighten the connection box. There should be like a million wires running into it.

The gears are still showing on my gauge cluster but the mileage is not. Is it possible that I’m having the same problem as you did in this video? I just don’t want to remove the dash if I don’t have to.

I would recommend using the leaded solder just because it resists heat cycles better than the lead-free stuff.

I believe the fuse for that controls all the back lighting. So if it’s bad than all the lights would be out.
