Yep! my hairs' past my shoulders and I can confirm that messy wild buns are where' it's at, always love it have tried other styles but just come back to the good ol' messy bun with lots of texture/volume. I like mine best when it's really central and right at the crown. Your 100% with having to flick your whole head down to position the hair correctly, then flipping it through the hair-tie. I use large head bands because I've got alot of thick hair that doesn't fit in a small elastic. I love my hair and I can always appreciate a good man bun when I spy one!

1:56 "you're going to give it the second twist right here" But there was no mention of the first twist. Only flicking your hair with your thumb. My hair is as long as yours but I'm not great with elastics. So this is a bit frustrating. The first twist isn't discussed or clear to me. Is it along with the thumb flip? I've tried this 40 times and my hair just doesn't stay together like yours. Is it because I have thick but fine hair? I feel like I'm missing something about the first twist
Another important thing to be specific about while teaching this is how you're grabbing the hair tie. 4 fingers in? Is 4 fingers in the hair tie necessary?
Man this is so helpful. To me tying my hair back is like trying to untangle the Christmas lights. It's tedious and frustrating and I somehow end up wrapping it around something else I didn't intend to!
I’ve tried many times and lost a bunch of hairs doing this, can’t seems to follow after the first twist with the thumb as the thumb is mostly not visible among the hairs after that part, is it under the band or over it?
Fourth time am letting my hair grow... there's something with that "twist" move that is magic... my hair hasn't reach my shoulders yet on thus new hair journey... I've had real difficulty with this (not just your videos, trav!). My sister put this up for me in seconds! So I've gone a bit rogue; for now I'm grabbing my hair, tying a traditional ponytail by twisting the tie over into a figure 8 shape w/ the tail in one of the holes and then pulling a little over a half (or the majority for a bigger bun) of my remaining hair halfway through the 'other' hole in the figure 8. If you get me? You can actually repeat this, depending on length, 3 or 4 times to tighten as long as you pull the majority through the hole at the end. It's a really basic bun. Not as cool but I can tug at it to make it messier, I can make it higher or lower on my head and if I throw my head forward and tie it there I get like, a lazy top-knot, though it doesn't suit me. Edit: I'm not used to this kind of styling and it was this sort of experimenting that let me eventually nab the cooler bun in the video. Improving my hand coordination, knowing what will & won't work etc

Alright Ive watched this about 39 times in .25, What you should take away; twist your hair ALONG with the first twist of your hair tie. Also the second twist if you can/need to. That's literally all that's different here, the hair AND the hair tie, you twist both at once.
I finally pulled it off! I had to use a second tie to tie around the bun to reinforce it (as I used an older, stretched tie for the attempt and wasn't overly confident with the 'flick' - more of a 'lift', ha) but it held all day and I was totally proud and confident. Thanks a lot! ❤

What else don't have long hair but watching this?
Are there any cons to having a flat bun? Because I think it would suit me better.
I just can’t figure this one out, that flick thing is getting me
Taking instruction literally doesn't always work
Hair length
Hand size
Etc all come into this
Just follow untill the thumb part and find a way to achieve the "flick your hair with your thumb"
I'm assuming that's where people are getting stuck
I only got it right when I tried other ways apart from using my thumb
I am giving up. Very difficult. Going to cut my hair soon.
Ok but. Amazing tutorial. Thanks!!
Thinking maybe I'll just go back to the DIY buzz cut....life was so simple 😅
also wish to have some hand movement video, because of your hairs i have no idea waht you doing
Thank you, my real hair right now is about Billy Joe Armstrong of Green Day in 21 Guns.
So I wear wigs for now and this was helpful 😊
@Trav White May i know how long is your hair at the moment?
