You are totally correct! I was thinking about the Communication tower, and instead mentioned Foster - who did the Collserola. Thanks for mentioning it 👍
I love this format, especially how it combines history with the evolution of urban form. The wide chamfered corners of the superblocks was one of the first things that struck me when I first visited Barca. I never knew that the corners were intended to allow for trams to turn.
Out of all of the cities in Europe I have visited Barcelona is one of my favourites. Thank you for the video I love watching them keep up the good work.
Great. Clear communication. Though would have been nice to have some corresponding footage that links directly to the points/places you were talking about. Great map diagrams.
It was a solid video. What was missing is a proper ending, an overview of things being executed right now that'll shape next two decades: - superblocks, with focus on children, elderly, walkability, removal of cars from the city, - development of the Sagrera train station to connect to Europe via high speed rail, including boring a challenging tunnel close to Sagrada Familia, - Poblenou and 22@ District - industrial area being redesigned as modern tech hub with Spanish $1bn unicorn startups setting up their headquarters in.
This is good info Grzegorz, thanks for the input! Perhaps you are correct, I just focused on original plans and up to 1992. But if I do a part2, I will remember it! :)
La muralla que se derribó en el siglo 19 no fue la romana, fue la medieval, hay una gran parte de la muralla romana con muchas torres que se pueden ver actualmente.
I just discovered the channel and loved the video. I wish you did more of more spanish cities, because the format is great and the aesthetic is awesome. The links are appreciated.
Lived for a year in this beautiful city! Such beautiful architecture and the urban planning is genius. I believe the blocks you mentioned are called superillas correct?
Superilles or superblocks is an extension of the original idea which groups 9 adjacent blocks into one area which is supposed to not allow through traffic by car and have all services required for quality of life (health care, education, green spaces, areas for children to play in, stores, pharmacies, gyms). City of Barcelona plans to execute 21 such areas by 2030, with 3 temporary experiments already in place, and 4 first final designs being built in next 2-3 years.
Thank you for this exclucive one. As an archititecture based channel, I'm working on 3D model and 3D rendering tutorials based channel. I'm gonna do a 3D animation based on barcelona. I hope, you can help me out!
It’s unfortunate that when Eixample was planned, they didn’t include something like a Central Park or just more different parks. I like Barcelona, but I think there simply isn’t enough parks…
Well having videos like these are great “escapes” from being lockdown. Also I heard this story recently: Johnny Walker kept advertising through WW2 and people were wondering why, no one could afford the time or money to buy whiskies. But you know the only brand that people remembered after the war?
The tower on Montjuïc is by Santiago Calatrava, not Norman Foster

Dude you gotta keep going. This really is satisfying to watch and learn

Came for city planning, stayed for the music.
Nice to know more history of Barcelona. I love the public spaces. Especially Gracia and superblocks in Poblenou.

There had to be a park in every single block and a huge park next to the Besòs river. For a variety of reasons, this never happenned... :(
keep up the good work mate!
Amo tu acento 😌💕
thank you very much. İt is a nice video
The book: Barcelona, the Evolution of a compact city written by GSD professor Jean Busquets is highly recommended.
WOW
Jo great video man
great work!
thank you for makeing this intresting type of video. I'd like to see more video of other European cities like this ❤️✌️
I'll try to! I also deeply enjoy urbanism. Brun :)
Where is the mention of Fc Barcelona
Case în Spania 2022, detalii sau ceva contacte
Where’s Camp nou ? 🥺
You forgot Sicily in the map...
5:17 you write 113 but say one hundred and thirty three...
Nice video~ though this is not the right time to trvael around the world
Hi SeoYeon! I fully agree! Priority number 1 is to stay home and healthy.
Well having videos like these are great “escapes” from being lockdown. Also I heard this story recently: Johnny Walker kept advertising through WW2 and people were wondering why, no one could afford the time or money to buy whiskies. But you know the only brand that people remembered after the war?
Cerdá was an engineer not an architect
That is correct, he was an engineer. Actually he studied architecture, although he never finished :) Thanks for the note Emanuele!
5:14 I think you meant "One hundred and thirteen" (113 ) . Not "One hundred and thirty three" ( 133 )
