As a lifelong El Pasoan, I have never been up to those mines. Kiki's is famous for it's enchiladas. I am glad you made it over there. Great video. Since you both like history and trails the Mission Trail might excite you. Missions from hundreds of years ago. I would recommend hiking up Mt. Cristo Rey to the huge statue of Jesus, but there can be bandits there sometimes so make sure its safe. Thanks for the wonderful footage of West Texas. Nowhere like it.
B & Ang - the 6.6 miles through the desert to the Tin Mine, with a fairly good hill at the end, can be strenuous, but the place is really, really neat. A+K missed the even more amazing lower tunnel. I do hope you are able to see this local wonder sometime.
OMG! Im from El Paso, glad you liked the hike on the mountain. Fun fact if you hike up to the highest point, you can see all the way to the snowy NM mountains from there. I think it's Ski Apache in Ruidoso or Cloudcroft
I moved out to West Texas 7 years ago, and never looked back. It took me 50 years to find home. It's magical here. I worked at Lajitas on the border for a while, and the numbers of Texans that came in amazed saying they had lived in Texas their whole lives and didn't even know this was out here was really something. Hopefully I'll be here forever.
Let the journey begin! Yay!!! It’s funny, when you entered the mine, I was like, “Adam doesn’t like caves.” And then soon after Adam was like, “I don’t like this.” Lol
Thanks for some great ideas for time in El Paso. We’re flying there soon as a base for our hiking trip in Guadalupe and Big Bend. Looking forward to following the rest of your journey to Alaska. Safe travels!
I am so excited for this journey. Our next few years of traveling will be a lot of the same areas. Your travel guides are second to none! My families choice in activities and choices of food are identical to you two.
I've driven through this area one time years ago and I must admit I'm surprised there is so much to see and do here. Really enjoyed this video. Looking forward to this whole series as we are looking at making this trek to Alaska as well. Great video guys!
Love that you explored Fort Davis. I volunteered there a couple of seasons. I was dressed as the Commanding Officer's wife... 1886, corset and petticoats and gloves etc. A fabulous volunteer opportunity and had plenty of time to explore the area.
Fun start to the Alaska series! I like the new animated opening, very cool! You're so cute with matching allbirds, lol. Thanks for mentioning that you crashed at a rest-stop, I'm always interested in knowing the different places you find to overnight (for planning and future reference in general). The mine looked really interesting! Y'all are brave! The food after the hike looked awesome! Good bye Texas! We loved our time in NM.... liked it a lot more than we thought we would!
Hahaha so funny you noticed the AllBirds. 😂 That was not intentional, I promise! Adam got them for free from my brother and free is the best price lol! And we hope to share more of where we stay this year. 😃
Thank you so much for taking us along on your trip! It was so cool that you stopped in El Paso, my hometown! I grew up there, even though I’m no longer living there, it was nice seeing a little bit of it again. That mine was interesting but scary at the same time. Enjoy the rest of your trip! Safe travels to you both. 😊
Welcome back! Loving the off the beaten path stuff. We hit Fort Davis in January 2020 after Big Bend NP. Great history lesson for sure. Now I have added the tin mine to our list of things to do.
We are so excited about this series! Love Alaska, can't wait to see where y'all go there! So glad your hand is feeling better! Take Care! - Melissa and Curtis
I grew up in northern New York I’m the foot holds of the Adirondacks, mostly resenting the area I was from. But after watching your videos over the last year and having two children in the past few, I just want to let you guys know how much you have truly brought me back to my roots of loving nature and instilling that into my kids. I grew up sort of resenting the ‘country’ are I was raised in, but after watching your content over the past year you guys are a huge part in rekindling my love for travel and nature and trying to pass that on to my children. I hope you guys never stop making videos. Your content is by far the best I’ve found on UA-cam, and your constant positive outlook and adventurous side of life has truly changed how I am as a man and a father. Forever grateful! Keep up the great work guys!!
Thank you so much Brandon! That means a lot to us! I didn’t grow up really traveling or being outdoors and it truly has changed my life, so it makes us happy to know that your kids will hopefully get to experience it all too!
Yay! This was a fabulous first episode on the journey to Alaska. We are so excited and looking forward to seeing the amazing parks, trails, foodie restaurants, history, cool adventures, and the unusual surprises. This is a great start to the 2022 adventure travel year. 👏👍🎉🙂
Ever so slowly catching up but very excited to watch this Journey to Alaska series. I am sure it is amazing but this was an awesome way to kick things off. Great video of Western Texas and some cool stops. We did this region for vacation back in March/April 2021. I loved Western Texas and can’t wait to get back. Our focal point of the trip were the National Parks, Big Bend still remains one of my favorite, but we did take the time to visit Marfa, Fort Davis, and do the nighttime program at McDonald Observatory (recommended if you get back to the area). Really enjoyed all of it and loved the feel of the area. I wish I had know about the desk. Definitely would have down that. It reminds me of Poet’s Table in the Black Hills. That hike to the tin mines was really neat as well. Again, excellent job on all of it. The filming, the production valves, etc. were all top notch.
West Texas is an amazing place! So mysterious and surprising. We can't wait to go back to Big Bend sometime! You'd think we'd go often being from Texas, but it's a 9 hour drive from our house! We'd love to go to the observatory sometime also. That's on our bucket list. Thanks, Michael!
I sit writing this message from Liberty Hill, TX 😊 I’ve enjoyed all of your adventures, my boyfriend and I would love to capture our travel adventures the way you guys do. Enjoy your travels and can’t wait to see all the footage you capture along the way!! Safe travels
You have become our first place to look when we're planning road trips. I can't wait to see what you find as you visit the parks and parts of California that I'm familiar with.
We are so pumped that you guys are starting your trip to Alaska! Loved seeing another side of Texas. Texas has a lot more to offer than we initially expected.
So happy YT suggested your video! I have been needing a Davis Mountains fix! I spent many weekends at Prude Ranch, worked summer camp at Mitre Peak and honeymooned in Ft. Davis. Those views and history stick with you for sure. Time to plan a weekend to introduce my grandson to the fort and hills to get him hooked now, too! Great content and edit, looking forward to your journey!
We are glad UA-cam sent you our way! Love that you’re going to get him hooked on the area! It took us WAY too long to explore it for the first time and we regret it!
I was just out there from Houston for 4 days this week. I was exploring Highway 90 and Big Bend. I went out to the Davis Mountains last year to go up the highest road in Texas.
Great video! I truly think you all have the best personalities and create such watchable content. It truly makes us want to travel and your videos are always so helpful when we plan adventures.
Lots of interesting hiking, food, and history in West Texas. We were there once when we bicycled across the country, and thought the landscape was beautiful, and we met really nice people too!
Almost Summers were spent in Fort Davis Texas and I'm so glad that you're doing a showing of it because not many people know of that wonderful little town
The algorithm helped me find you. I'm from El Paso, live in Austin, and you won me over with your choice of Kikis for lunch. One of my family's favorite places for decades. Nicely done. Stay safe and have fun. I have a few suggestions for stops on your way to Alaska. Biosphere II, AZ. Gilroy, CA. Grants Pass, OR.
Trying to get caught up. Yayyyy Kona glad to see you. Thanks for your kindness while I was away. Much appreciated through a tough time. Have a ball and stay safe❤️🙏🏻
Nice video, the unexploded ordinance signs went up in the fall of 2021. The northeast side of the mountains were a firing range for the army 60 to 70 years ago. The shells turn up every now and then, but there has not been an incident in quite some time. It looks like you were hiking the same week as the Puzzler mountain bike race based on the orange flag on the trail. That side of the mountain has some awesome mountain bike trails. On the other side of the mountain is a copper mine that the State Parks will open up every now and then. Fortunately for the outdoor community neither venture was successful.
OMG, I was in Alpine just last week slow-rolling my way to Phoenix. And I went to Cedar Coffee! Love the hike to the desk, I was not aware and will check it out next time. If you all are heading towards the Tucson area, I highly recommend Saguaro NP and the absolutely crazy, sketchy, Picacho Peak hike. Safe travels!
I’ve been looking forward to this video for over a week and am so stoked to get this journey started! Lol on the Fort Davis history. “The food was very poor” Y’all got some courage going in those Tin Mines. Mmm, Kiki’s. Lookin good, homies. Safe Travels! 🚐🏜🤙🏽
Yay!! You're on your way! How exciting! That guy is definitely an artist, can't even imagine doing that. Love the bicycle tree and the desk. Quirky things are my jam! lol Stay safe on your journey and see you on the next video. : )
Love it y’all! I need a good westbound trip drivable from AR to celebrate the big 40 this next year and this may be a good option! Looking forward to seeing the New Mexico episode. So impressed with new content and your trip to AK!!
New sub here. I live in the El Paso and really enjoyed this video. Kiki's and L & J are in my neighborhood, been hiking the mines several times. I've been looking for new places to hike. I've been to Ft Davis, Alpine, and Marfa, but need to go back and look more into their hiking/camping areas. Safe travels.
Brand new subscriber here! I found your channel and I have to say, I’m binge watching all your videos. You two are genuine people and it’s really refreshing to watch your channel. I love how you give some history about the places you visit as well. Please keep up the good work and safe travels while you explore our amazing country!
I really enjoyed watching this video. Thanks for stopping in El Paso and having a good hike and some good food. You two are very brave and adventoruous for going so deep into the mine! So excited to see where you stop next on your trip to Alaska!
Just found your channel, love you two. I want to mo e to Alpine, TX. Love this show. Now I'm watching your SLO show, I live by there, great place. Wish I could have told you to go to Papi's in Pismo best potato tacos.
AND WE"RE OFF!!! Great trip through west Texas. Loved seeing Ft. Davis and then the tin mine. The Machaca looked so tasty. Two suggestions on your trip; as you swing through central AZ consider stopping at Casa Grande ruins (half way between Phoenix and Tucson), and in AK definitely visit Kenai Fjords NP and take one of the commercial boat tours out to Aialik bay (out of Seward). There are a couple of commercial tour operators.
yep.. hyperventilating from the time you said "spooky" till the time you were out in daylight.. good to know its open to the public .. and that there were no mountain lions in there! .. I'm so excited to be on this journey with you to Alaska!! Happy Travels!
Wow epic adventure and fabulous start to your trip! That house with ththe cement carvings was just amazing. Hafts say the mine totally creeped me out! Drive safely. Don't get too tired before stopping along the way.
I wonder how many of my fellow El Pasoans watched this video because UA-cam put it on their feed as a "suggested" video? 🤔 That's what I did! Now I'm going to watch more episodes! 🤣🙏🏼 Safe Travels!
Next time you stop in El Paso try the green and red gorditas at "El Taquito" (1422 Airway Blvd El Paso, TX 79925), the rolled tacos from "The Disctrict" (601 N Piedras St, El Paso, TX 79903), the green chili burger from Papa Eric's (2519 N Piedras St, El Paso, TX 79930), or the nachos from the "Tap" (408 E San Antonio Ave, El Paso, TX 79901 ). They are all very affordable places.
I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this vlog!!! Adam & Katherine are back baby!!! I smiled the entire way through this one! Man I missed you guys! I’m so pumped for all your 2022 adventures…it’s going to be an amazing year! I love you guys! 😍😆😆👏🙌
Our favorite state park is the Davis Mountains State Park! Just a little further down the road is the Madera Canyon trail if you're ever back in the area. It's so different than much of the desert. The fall color out there is also very unexpected and gorgeous! We saw a lot of bright red in Oct 2020, and incredible yellows in late Nov 2021!
Loved the random desk and notebooks! You two are brave, I think I would have stopped 50ft into the mine! Truly appreciate this video as I am currently planning our road trip from Fla to SanDiego. We’ve never driven out west. Safe travels great video love the bloops too! ~Cara 😊
Your description of machaca is the first time I have ever heard such a precise description. It is a staple of the people who live in Baja California Sur. Without refrigeration a butchered steer needs to be dried. It makes delicious burritos for anytime of the day.

You missed the lower tunnels which really go on for about a mile or so with various different tunnels

Aaah, my beloved El Paso! Can’t beat our weather!
We love it there!

Dust storms are the best lol

They’re not around very long. It beats a snow storm!
I love it here too🥰
I love West Texas - the land, people, beautiful sunsets, and open roads!

We totally agree with their sentiment! We had no idea how magical it was out there and kick ourselves for not exploring it sooner.
Love this! I actually am from Fairbanks, Alaska and currently live in El Paso, Texas!
Oh wow! That’s a huge change!
Currently live in El Paso and moving to Anchorage this summer so this seems like the perfect adventure to follow along on!
Oh wow! What a move!
Love your new intro!! I enjoyed the fort and all the info on the fort . I always love your hikes . The house in El Paso is so beautiful. 🤩🤩
So happy you enjoy the intro!
Let the journey begin! Yay!!!
It’s funny, when you entered the mine, I was like, “Adam doesn’t like caves.” And then soon after Adam was like, “I don’t like this.” Lol
Hahaha sometimes he can handle it and sometimes he can't!
Sweet couple! Traveling vicariously with your videos!💕
I hope people will want to move to El Paso after watching this video! I love relocating people here🙌🏻🏡

I love how you give some history about the places you visit as well. Please keep up the good work and safe travels while you explore our amazing country!
Thank you so much for watching Nick! We super appreciate the kind words 🥰
I really enjoyed watching this video. Thanks for stopping in El Paso and having a good hike and some good food. You two are very brave and adventoruous for going so deep into the mine! So excited to see where you stop next on your trip to Alaska!
Thank you so much for watching Audrey!
Just found your channel, love you two. I want to mo e to Alpine, TX. Love this show. Now I'm watching your SLO show, I live by there, great place. Wish I could have told you to go to Papi's in Pismo best potato tacos.
Those murals in Alpine make me want to visit, so cool!
They had tons of great art!
Thank you for the tips! We hadn’t heard of that spot in AZ! And that boat tour is high up on our list!
I live in el paso and not to far fdom that house its good to see it getting so much they get alot of out of towners now
It’s very impressive!
yep.. hyperventilating from the time you said "spooky" till the time you were out in daylight.. good to know its open to the public .. and that there were no mountain lions in there! .. I'm so excited to be on this journey with you to Alaska!! Happy Travels!
Hahahaha Adam was not a huge fan, but I LOVED it! Although if I had seen two glowing eyes that weren't Kona's...😳
Wow epic adventure and fabulous start to your trip! That house with ththe cement carvings was just amazing. Hafts say the mine totally creeped me out! Drive safely. Don't get too tired before stopping along the way.
Adam was creeped out as well lol! One day I’ll go back and see how far I can go!
I wonder how many of my fellow El Pasoans watched this video because UA-cam put it on their feed as a "suggested" video? 🤔 That's what I did! Now I'm going to watch more episodes! 🤣🙏🏼
Safe Travels!
Thanks for the tips, lots of good spots to eat in El Paso.
This will be a good trip for you all
Chuco town is my home town. That one with all those statues, i pass by that on my bicycle ride! Give props to El Paso! Good job

Wooo we’re back!!! Excited for this year and to bring you along!
Good to see you on the road again. Safe Travels on your way to Alaska…
Thanks Joe!
Glad to see you back in 2022! Love the new intro! I look forward to living vicariously through you two!
Thank you Delia! Can't wait to bring you along ❤️
We saw some photos of the area in the fall and had no idea it got so pretty with fall colors! We will be back to explore and hike more!
May be my favorite video of yalls, I am a little biased though, west texas is my happy place!
We ❤️ West Texas! Seriously kicking ourselves we never explored the area when we lived in Texas full time!
Loved the random desk and notebooks! You two are brave, I think I would have stopped 50ft into the mine! Truly appreciate this video as I am currently planning our road trip from Fla to SanDiego. We’ve never driven out west. Safe travels great video love the bloops too! ~Cara 😊
Ooo y’all are in for a really fun road trip! Lots of cool spots out west!
Your description of machaca is the first time I have ever heard such a precise description. It is a staple of the people who live in Baja California Sur. Without refrigeration a butchered steer needs to be dried. It makes delicious burritos for anytime of the day.
Wow thank you, that means a lot!
