One thing that bogs the game down is how before the final mission the game stops showing you where the main missions are and it gives you NO indication of what you are supposed to do to progress. So you have to go to the Internet to figure out how to even progress which is already a sign of terrible game design but it gets even worse when you find out how you progress, you have to purchase 6 assets and do their missions to make them profitable this is terrible because being forced to do side activities to progress in the main story is not fun at all. Add to that that some of these missions are just impossible to find out without a walkthrough. For example in the Pole Position asset you have to sit for multiple minutes in front of a dancing lady to make the asset profitable, how was i supposed to know that? Overall the assets being mandatory and not well explained at all dimished the enjoyment of the game for me.
The assets being mandatory is a bit much. But it's not hard to figure out how and what to do. You're meant to explore and see what's what. The game slows down and then you think about what else to do, then you go have a look at the assets and just do stuff until the last mission opens up. You are meant to be taking over the city, and the assets are a part of that. I personally could do without the empire building, I generally don't like it in most games. But I don't think in Vice City it's that cryptic at all. You can find the Pole Position thing by seeing an open building and going in there, then wondering if it functions at all, which it does a little bit. But yes, the time it takes you need to be in there, is boring as Hell.
