Hot air is a good choice when removing multi pin devices. But if heat is not a huge concern, drag flood all the pins with solder and pull off. Of course low melt solder is best, but regular leaded will work as well. Then you can easily wick/suck out the solder from the vias later! Investing in multiple size nozzles for the desolder gun will also be an asset as long as you have the appropriate nozzle cleaning pins.
Glad you enjoyed it and got it working..... I felt guilty when your camera went off! .... It came in a job lot and I never even plugged it in because I noticed the screen.
As an electronic manteinance student, i very much apreciate your videos Steve. I would be incredibly lost without schematics, but you always find a way to comprehend what almost everything in the PCB is on a mere glace. Cheers and keep up the nice job ❤.
Getting schematics seems to be getting harder and harder, even trying to find data on chips or getting hold of chips seems to be getting harder too! #righttorepair
I said the same thing on your previous video but it's worth saying again - Your videos are an inspiration. I've binged almost all of your videos and you've inspired me to have a go at fixing the myriad of broken devices I have just sat in boxes in my cupboards. Keep doing what you're doing Steve! Props from Hull :)
Steve, Never call yourself stupid. You are an icon and a role model. We all love your work brother. Keep up the fantastic vids. MUCH LOVE, Punched Pork....
You sir absolutely crack me up. What an awesome sense of dry humor, that you so effortlessly infuse into the tasks at hand. I've been watching you... and I must declare... I totally approve of what you are delivering, Mr. Steve of the Stez Stix Fixing variety. Niiice! Thank you very much for the pleasant DAB radio repair-voyage, that I embarked on this afternoon, with you at the helm/controls. Keep it up! Fred
I have absolutely no idea what's going on but I enjoy it anyways. You'll have to explain how that gel stuff works one day. Looks like wizardry. Keep up the good stuff.
For what it's worth: I was contemplating supporting this channel. I have been enjoying your stuff for months now. Then I saw THIS video and the overdub of you calling yourself an idiot (you're not) and I was like...well then, that settles it. I'm in. P.S. make an episode for us nerds who are getting into small electronics repairs too about the tools and materials you use. I'd love to learn.
Your vods are ASMR for me. Really hope that one day you'll have daily uploads. I like that you don't conform to one type of electronic repair. I think that the mentality is "if it breaks, throw it away" whereas you give things a second life. You've really made me interested in honing my skills at electronic repair, and you have a great personality. I imagine you are going to blow up soon and will inspire many people to do what you are doing. Thanks for the awesome vods.
I fixed first ever circuit board today!! I dug out my rusty old soldering iron and some dodgy looking solder and managed to fix an electric fan thaty kids broke rather than buy a new one. Thanks for the inspiration my dude!!
The rapping is improving :) You inspired me to get a Sony stereo receiver from 1986 and attempt to repair it. What did I get myself into. Thanks Steve.
Hi, I'm happy to see you using the correct tools for de-soldering, but remember to clean the de-soldering tool regularly with the tools supplied. It looked like you lost suction. Also, most if not all of the de-soldering tools have a variety of tips available to suit the job you are working on, so too small should not be an issue. (That's what she said) 🤣
Excellent video, I'm a new subscriber with absolutely no knowledge of repairs but I've watched countless videos that you have uploaded and just love watching them. Strangely relaxing and therapeutic
I love this channel!! I don't play or even like video games. I know nothing about electronics. But I love Steve. His quiet, calm demeanor is wonderful!!
Steve pls bring some more old consoles and work on those and try to mod some of them it is really fun watching you do those kind of videos love the vids keep it up
Hey Steve love your content and how helpful it actually is, I've learnt from alot of your videos and that's whats important and your jeffing funny. Love the attitude and I'll be honest I tend to skip your songs but it's shows how genuine you are and how you love your craft, I hope for your success on this platform. To me I'd say your up there with the best channels of the same kind of content. Keep it up bud. From some guy in Portugal.
I really enjoy seeing you working on these faulty electronics - you got so many positive and calming vibes in all your videos that make me want to share a pint with you - but i have SO many questions like how you always know where ground is, why you have this weird liquid flux all the time when the solder itself contains some flux itself (at least i guess if it is not some sort of special solder) and where you get all the replacement chips that are stupid hard to find with only these little digits and letters on the chip itself... like where do you find a video chip for a console that is off market for like 20 years ... :D Hope to see a lot more of you in the future :) Greetings from Germany
Recently caught your channel, and I'm hooked! All of the repairs and mods got me excited to do a Clean Power and capacitor mod on my LCD Game Boy Color. My soldering shoes were definitely off as I accidentally ripped up some of the board with the capacitor (thanks to a finnicky soldering iron) but re-watching I understand better how to wick up the old solder and ensure its off. Everything got fixed, but definitely its owed to your channel.
I love how you make any mishaps very funny by your dead pan face to camera. That cracks me up. There was only on other man could do that, and his name was Charles Hawtry from the Carry On films. Keep up the great work my friend. Love and light. Paul ❤❤❤
Well rescued Steve, congratulations. Just thinking, if you don’t have any then some low melt solder could be a useful thing for your toolbox ... just the job when leaded solder just isn’t enough. Keep up the great work 😀👍
Because of this channel I've gone out and bought a soldering iron, a bunch of electronic kits to learn on and even the same bloody blue mat you have. Im having a ball, my wife on the other hand is waiting for me to electrocute myself haha. Seriously epic channel, keep the content rolling and we'll all keep watching!!!
I didn't realized until this video how small your copper braided wire is, so tiny 🤦♂ shows i know nothing about electronic repair but i do enjoy your videos
I love you channel man, awesome stuff you got going, and a great amount of skill fixing everything also! Congratulations on your channel, and this fix in particular!
It's pre-season and you're still getting your fitness levels up and finding your form. The soldering will come. Just keep making runs into the box and the fan on.
Thanks Sixty. I got a box of various ones off Amazon. Can't seem to find the link atm, but i reckon they'll be others on there. It's got about 20 different shapes and sizes of micro USB in there. This one was a perfect fit though! 👍
I really like you videos. For what its worth, I think the channel really has the potential to take off in a big way. But I believe you should focus on video game related items. I think right now it's sort of hobbyist content but theres something about the long-form soldering repairs that makes me think if it was all video game related it could be the next popular thing. Hope you dont take this the wrong way, big fan of your content!
Always when I see you using copper braid I'm amazed how well it works. I usually have problems whit it. I'm wondering what am I doing wrong? I use 350 degC might it be to low? Or maybe I should invest in a better flux. Any tips?
I definitely wasn't wearing my soldering shoes in this one. Hope I've not lost them... 👠👠
You wear THOSE👠👠 while soldering? *rawr* ;) :P
Pink heels not my first choice but you do you!

Flux fishnet tights are a must with soldering shoes.
hello Steve. jet another funny video. please read my email about the E-Zigarrets 😘

" myriad of broken devices I have just sat in boxes " I know exactly how you feel!
Steve, Never call yourself stupid. You are an icon and a role model. We all love your work brother. Keep up the fantastic vids. MUCH LOVE, Punched Pork....
As long as you keep calling whatever you fixed stupid at the end, I'll keep liking. 🤝
I’ve never soldered or repaired anything in my life yet I am strangely addicted to watching these videos, brilliant! 👍
Give it a go mate! You don't know what you are capable of until you try! Most of it is just practice.
Just wanted to let you know my 5 year old loves your videos. He comes home from prep and watches one of your videos before he does his homework.
You sir absolutely crack me up. What an awesome sense of dry humor, that you so effortlessly infuse into the tasks at hand. I've been watching you... and I must declare... You face is too cute to call something stupid and when you do it sounds like a compliment
Keep up the awsome videos! GET IN THERE! 🤜👊🤛
"GET IN THERE!" has become a part of my vernacular.
I have absolutely no idea what's going on but I enjoy it anyways. You'll have to explain how that gel stuff works one day. Looks like wizardry. Keep up the good stuff.
It's flux. It just helps the solder flow more easily and cleans the connections.
For what it's worth: I was contemplating supporting this channel. I have been enjoying your stuff for months now. Then I saw THIS video and the overdub of you calling yourself an idiot (you're not) and I was like...well then, that settles it.
I'm in.

Looking good Steve 😎Thanks mate. Perfect job for a bit of low melt solder on that screen👍👍👍

This guy is telling you wat I want too Steve
@@bradleywhitehouse4506 Do you mean handheld? or like SNES etc? I've done a few handheld ones, but they don't seem to get much interest.
@@BuyitFixit its probably more nostalgia u fixing old games n stuff. N specifically 80-90-00s era consoles and handhelds
I still watch and enjoy your old videos. You have improved a lot! Did you know Northbridgefix has mentioned you in recent video?
Hey Steve love your content and how helpful it actually is, I've learnt from alot of your videos and that's whats important and your jeffing funny.

I dont know why but I just love watching your videos. Keep it up.
Steve. I've been binging your videos and love them. The song at the end of this one is my fave! Keep up the NICE work
Another great video! I miss the 45 min ones though lol. Quick question on your multi meter. What probes are you using?
Brilliant as always, I’m glad they didn’t stop you singing.
Weirdly brilliant, I especially liked the microscopic work with the soldering....I'm weird it seems!! 😁 Love it
I really love watching this channel, there are such a good vibes coming out of your videos, they always make my day better.
As an EE myself I find your videos fun 👍👍
i like the songs and raps for the Patreons don't let the haters get to you man love the content
That reassembly montage was art!
Nice bit of Ska . 👍

I don't know how I fell in love with this channel 😍❤️, it all started with stupid game and still today I heard stupid radio
Literally I was just going through your videos hoping a new one will drop this evening !
Great fix Steve!!
Cheers Greg!

I like the music for the last re-assemble; That was rather entertaining lol
😁 thanks David!

Great work Steve. Think you've earned yourself a visit to the pub!
That was a good diagnosis and fix, even with the dodgy soldering.
Excellent AND The Selector at the end. Brilliant.
Well rescued Steve, congratulations. Just thinking, if you don’t have any then some low melt solder could be a useful thing for your toolbox ... just the job when leaded solder just isn’t enough.
Keep up the great work 😀👍
No cow pics made me sad. Great stuff still! 🐄
Very interesting video, makes you think of all the broken electrical item we throw away. 👍🏻😀
Throw away society unfortunately. I hate throwing stuff out, even stuff beyond repair still has useful parts that can be used in other devices.
I'm glad Steve has inspired you to have a go! I have the same blue mat also! They seem quite popular among us fixers!
Great video Steve, you have become our Saturdays awesome habbit.
Another piece of tech fixed there your certainly having a good run of fixes there Steve - Nice 1 👍
I didn't realized until this video how small your copper braided wire is, so tiny 🤦♂ shows i know nothing about electronic repair but i do enjoy your videos
Love watching your repairs 👍👍👍
Good job Steve, Lucky you had a spare screen lying around. I keep a pile of dead boards / parts for the same reason!
Fooking LOVE the singing mate :)
Seriously, especially the raps.
Very 90s
Nice one Steve! 👍
Nice one! Missed the cow though 🙂
Your channel has become a mantra for me day to zen out when I'm having my tea l 😆 ,I'm staring to worry I may have a problem.
I love you channel man, awesome stuff you got going, and a great amount of skill fixing everything also! Congratulations on your channel, and this fix in particular!
VOS still rocking it along with live performing Steve "nice"
Hah, watched a fair few of your vids before I realised you're a fellow Boltoner. Little Lever represent! Keep up the quality content. :D
Get in there!🤣 I love it! Great results Steve!
Two favorite Patreon backer's names are NormaStits and IsabelleEnd. Wonderful.
It's pre-season and you're still getting your fitness levels up and finding your form.
The soldering will come.
Just keep making runs into the box and the fan on.
Sir, let me add you are (indeed) the Ricky Gervais of the repair scene i really love your sense of humor...
apriciate the time skip, always interresting to watch your vids
Music on this was outstanding!
Flashbacks... I use to listen to The Selecter on a cassette walkman riding the Philadelphia subway to art school in the 80s.
Cracking fix, great video!
Good find on that port short. Where did you get all these different ports? You always seem to have a replacement on hand.
Thanks Sixty. I got a box of various ones off Amazon. Can't seem to find the link atm, but i reckon they'll be others on there. It's got about 20 different shapes and sizes of micro USB in there. This one was a perfect fit though! 👍
Well done Steve! Another great video
Great video! I think low melt solder might have helped you a bit with the removal of the display.
I really like you videos. For what its worth, I think the channel really has the potential to take off in a big way. But I believe you should focus on video game related items. Well done Steve you are a Genius well all most 🤣👍 keep them coming mr 👏👏
I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite UA-cam channel on the Citadel
Always when I see you using copper braid I'm amazed how well it works. I usually have problems whit it. I'm wondering what am I doing wrong? I use 350 degC might it be to low? Or maybe I should invest in a better flux. Any tips?
I usually go for 400 degC, and flux is always your friend... the more the merrier!
Du bist ein Genie
team steve checking in - its good stuff.
Always looking forward for your videos! Love the content!
Well done buddy 👌
Love watching you fix stupid stuff like this!
Nice work
If V.O.S. ever publishes an album,.. here's my money!
Nice work !
New subscriber! Love the humour!
I've watched nearly all of your videos and the problem I have with them is there aren't enough of them.
I'm sure steve will do some more!
Love your videos!
What do you use for your PCB holder Steve? I have loads of problem’s finding a half decent one that doesn’t break after a few uses
To avoid bridging when soldering close contacts like usb port try using a flat tip.... Hope it works for You and Dave.
Nice work Steve. =)
Thanks Frederick!
Great job!
Steve, a little advice for you in the future when you have to use solder mask use UV Light+Hot Air in order to cure in less than 3 seconds
Is that a shoulder strap for when you're skating down the promenade wearing it ?
+10 for the rap! Well done VOS.
Thought you had a bolton-ish twang ste, whaddup from Atherton 👋
Steve you get better and better.... ugh repairs part, but keep singing. Lol
😂 thanks Oz! Definitely wasn't wearing my soldering shoes on this one!
Good fix Stez! Ska outro had me in tatters while skanking my arms while sitting on my couch!
Hey you should put one of those handheld kits together! Like the GamePi43 !! They are super sweet.
WaveShare EN is cool too!
Great video again Steve , Is Westhoughton close to you ?
Just a support comment. Like your videos 🔥 Hi from Ukraine 🇺🇦
