Thank you for your talk. In Memoriam was my first introduction to Tennyson. I read it aloud slowly and often took it along with me on long walks. I found it beautiful and moving. Oh, to be so adored.

Absolutely agree with you and other comments! A poem without rhymes loses its inherent beauty and purpose. I can read and appreciate them but I usually rapidly forget about them.

Or are we meant to lounge against a tree
where all of painted people pet our hair.
From every painting cautious figures sneak
to comb our hair as if it once was theirs.
But now we wash and brush our hair ourselves.
    In 9 to 5 is animation lost;
they fade like spirits in a Salem house,
afraid to touch us when we’re at our jobs.
They, mellow in their pretty pictures pose,
pretending that they never came and went.
    Another painter paints another girl,
but all she does is pout for us instead.
Too much she does her best at staying still.
Your hair is fine. You have to pay your bills.

I really agree with you on how poetry should rhyme. It just seems to sound more beautiful and meaningful in a way.

I enjoy Booktubers with very specific tastes. I respect your taste of poetry and am interested in it. I do also prefer rhyming poetry but do quite enjoy some that doesn’t. I’m a real Luddite when it comes to poetry, admittedly. Ina video that’ll go up on Sunday, I mention the Rudyard Kipling famous poem, “If”. I just learned about it! And really enjoyed learning about it. 😊

Thanks for your continued support! Most of my opinions on contemporary literature would have me shuffled briskly out of a seminar room!

I almost always reread The Lady of Shalott for Victober and you have inspired me to give this one a go, too! 📚 Looking forward to the conversation with Steve.

I'll admit to having peeped into other works whilst reading this. My Oxford World Classics came with a marvelous collection of his letters too!

Since poetry derived from an oral tradition where the "song" or ballad was recited, rhyme and rhythm were aids to memorization and also helped the audience to retain the story. I can do without rhyme, but poetry should innately have a rhythm.

The water bottle needs a name! It’s got more personality than you do!

I don't want it to become the same relationship that Michael K Vaughan has with Roger!
