I’d like to see Guy Miner come back & test the HD version in his 25-06.
I tried the 6.5 sta ball ... When H4350 was hard to find and had fabulous results.. Once H4350 was available I did a side-by-side comparison... And the results were VERY close, could not be happier with sta ball.
A couple of months ago I just got a SAKO S20 Hunter in 6.5 PRC and I am using StaBall HD. As I type this I am getting ready to head to the range and chrono several 6.5 PRC test loads-several of which are loaded with StaBall HD. For my 6.5 PRC my max loads with StaBall HD are 61.2 grs. As soon as I get some velocity data I will add some comments about the results. I will say this, it meters beautifully on my RCBS electronic powder dispenser and I am very excited to test these loads. Thanks for the great video.
I picked up some Winchester Staball Match and have worked up some loads for my 38-55WFC. Out of 8 loads tested the average group size is .605" with the biggest being 1 .275" and the smallest being . 475". All very impressive as I'm shooting these out of my Henry Side Gate, lever action. With other powders, and I've tested 6 other powders, my groups were all over 1.4", some as large as 4.253" . These groups were all shot with "trued" Hawk 255gr Jacketed flat tipped spire point bullets.
Just tried some StaBall 6.5 for the first time a few days ago. Loaded up some 140 ELD for my 6.5 Creedmoor from 43.6g to 44.8g. All the Sd's were in the teens, with two getting down to single digits. I was definitely impressed. Based on performance, price, availability, and meters so very good, it's a winner for me.
What brass did you use?
I was just using once fired Hornady brass
A very useful lineup of powders!
I just started working with 6.5 Staball in my modern 6.5x55. Definitely like what I’m seeing so far. Should be able to get 2700 fps with a 140 grain bullet staying within the maximum for old military rifles.
I've had pretty good results from the new Match powder in my 308. Picked up a few pounds to test going into this PRS season. Found 46.0 gr to give me the best SD/EXs pushing Hornady 168gr BTHP Match bullets at 2620 fps out of an 18" barrel. All while doing my load development during a Midwest spring when it's 40° one Saturday and 80° then next 😅
Thank You Gavin! I'm still on the lookout for some STABALL MATCH to try in several cartridges...308Win, 30'06, 223 to start with.
Thank you.👍
Staball 6.5 Very versatile and temp stable. Used it I. Mozambique in a 375 H&H and use it in my 6.5 creedmoor.
That is possible in a cartridge that usually needs a very slow powder like H1000? I have a 300Rum and I’ve read about just using 4350 powders like IMR and H4350 but I’ve personally been weary about trying it
Thanks for explaining the differences between these powders. I've been using staBall 6.5 for my type 38 Japanese arisaka loads. I find 38 to 40 grains works great and is deadly accurate.
Thank you.
Looks like a good selection. Been hearing a lot of good things about the 6.5 powder sunce it came out. When i get a real place and can mount the presses on my bench, i will definitely try it, and probably the match. Don't think i have anything that would need the HD, unless i get a 6.5 PRC at some point, which interests me. Keep the great content coming! Thank you for everything
I have used 6.5 in my 243 and 708. Pushing ttsx in both. It performs well in both. It’s quickly become my favorite.
I might pick up some of the Staball match for 22-250 load development alongside the CFE223 I was mainly planning to use.
Love to try some hd for my 6.8 western
U.S.A. made! Outstanding. Liking results with Staball 6.5 in 7mm Rem Mag and 30/06. Looking forward to more content on Match & HD.
I would like to see some test results with the 338 Lapua Magnum using HD and a 300 Berger hybrid and/or 300 Hornady A-Tip.
I have been running the SB6.5 in my 6mm Creedmore using a 107gr. Sierra. Still have more testing but it looks to be a good contender
I have been using Staball 6.5 in my 6.5 Creedmoor with great results. I recently have started using it in my 338 Sherman as guys have previously had good luck with Hybrid 100v. I'm just starting to experiment, but feel I will have great luck with it!
Just got some of this powder and was running Hornardy 140g ELD-M bullets with 44.0g of StaBall 6.5 at a COL of 2.82. Got 2810 FPS out of my Accuracy International AXSA with a SD of 9fps.
Any more updates on primer shortages? Thanks
How about a comparison of double base powder vs single base powder?
Varget in my Lyman manual is like a 2g difference between min and max lol
Gavin, can you do some temp stability testing of the Staball 6.5??? I saw one guy do a really basic test and it showed evidence that it isnt exactly temp "stable". It was better than some that are know not to be temp stable but it wasnt nearly as much as something like H4350
Where can one get primers at a reasonable price so that we can play.
Picked up stabll65 this week,… I just charged up from 38.4 to 45……. 143grain eld-x and 2 kinds of brass…
I’m going out to test on Sunday! Super excited.
If you want me to come back and let u know how they did, please let me know on here and I’ll come back and post it below!
Gr8 video, and I look forward to more! Thnx
Just added 8 lb cans of staball 6.5 and Match to load a brand new MPA 6mm creedmoor. All due to your video earlier on these powders. Haven't loaded anything yet but I am almost ready.
It's super dirty, watch out for carbon rings.
@jcagle89 thanks for the heads up but I haven't heard that yet. But I'll keep an eye out for it.
I bought some HD to try in my 338 lapua. Haven't had the time to work up a load but finding a starting point has been a mystery. Well see what I come up with unless you do so first
Please please please test the 6mm ARC with the StaBall powders.
Also, test the 30-06 22" barrel with the LRX bullets with the 6.5. Good times there! 😊
What would be a good powder/load for subsonic loads in 6.5 creedmoor, .308 win, and maybe .45-70?
Which Staball would best suited for the 6.5 Grendel
I bought some Sta-Ball 6.5 last year when everything was out of stock; I found it to be extremely dirty burning. It also seemed to develop carbon rings quicker than most powders. Do the other Sta-Balls have the same issues?
I can't wait to get my hands on some HD to give it a try. I wanna compare it to ReTuMbO
Id definitely like to see some 6mm ARC gas gun content. Also curious how these new staball powders do in that platform.
Awesome!
Agree, Paul. Love my 6mm ARC and would be great to add another powder!
Yep! That was my suggestion-6mmARC gas gun. So far it seems like CFE 223 fares best but would like to see if StaBall Match is better!
Which of the 3 powders would you recommend for 6.8 western in the high end weight bullets?
I wish Hodgdon would make more of the powders already out before they release new ones.
Preach it brotha! It’s like never changing your engine oil but always keeping the chrome spotless.
Gavin, you mentioned the 25CM was very accurate but did not comment on the accuracy of the 6.5CM loads. Did you see similar results?
I assuming the test ammunition was dropped not trickled?
Load data for StaBil 6.5 for 6.5-284 Norma with Hornady ATip 153 grain?
Work up some loads for the popular standard rounds for this new batch of powders… A video for 243win 30-06 7mm REM mag will get a ton of views as there just isn’t a lot of info out there!
Are these hard on the throat of the rifle
I use StaBall 6.5 in 6.5CM 45.0 grains, 2813 w/ sd of 4.9.
I have a question, can I use StaBall 6.5 for 300 prc? I have 8 pounds sitting around.
Let Go!
No load data for 300 win mag ??
What powder is really good for 300BO Suppressed and non?
CFE-BLK and H-110 are good for 300BLK subs!
What one of these powders would you recommend for the 22-250 an 243
Same question.
Any test with .338LM yet? Is this why they dropped Enduron powders?
Good idea - 338 with StaBALL HD!
I am using it right now in a 6br 28-inch barrel head of velocity of 2780 with Remington seven and a half primers 105 Barnes Match burners
Also is the Staball 6.5 good for 6.5 subsonic?
I haven't thought to do 6.5 Subsonic- what bullets would you want to use?
Yeah curious as to what cartridge and bullet you would use to make a subsonic 6.5mm anything. Sounds like a stupid idea to me. Along the lines of sub sonic 308win.
@@Ultimatereloader 140gr
@@Ultimatereloader I have a 6.5cm with a integrally suppressed 32inch suppressor built by Witt machine
I've heard that the 6.5 and match produce really bad fouling, is that true?
I've been looking all over for hd. During shot show, they said that they were going to flood the shelves with it, I haven't seen it ONCE. ANYWHERE.
Ironically, I found one (1) pound sitting on the shelf in Bass Pro in Maryland. Yep, I bought it ! Never seen it since, anywhere 🤨
@@JefF-rv7gp it would be nice of them to just crank out varget, 4350, H1000 and retumbo instead of focusing on "new" powders.
@@diemos322jones9 Totally agreed, but this has probably been im development for a while. I'm a huge Varget fan, but this has me really curious. I also have a pound of 6.5 so I cant wait to start using these, especially since im loading for 30.06, 22-250, and 223. Im curious to see which of the two does better across all 3 calibers !
@@JefF-rv7gp don't waste the HD in your 223 or 22-250. HD is specifically designed for magnum cartridges. I've seen a bunch of the match and 6.5 staball. I think you would be way better off waiting for the match for all 3 of those calibers. Match is supposed to be like varget. I just want to get 1lb of HD to try.
I still would rather have H1000 or retumbo, but this was supposed to be widely available.🙄
Nobody at any of my LGS have seen any of this stuff. That shot show was just a bunch of bs from some sales rep.
@@diemos322jones9 Shot show is nothing but a sales pitch, but a cool one ! I dont have anything big enough to use HD, I meant 6.5 and Match if I didnt spit that out before. One thing that sucks is the price right now - I think I paid 46.99 for tyat pound of Match, but Varget is just as bad any more !
Hi I'm loading 30 06 Winchester Casings with 6.6 gr StaBALL 6.5, CCI Large Rifle Primers and 165grain Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets. Works great. Can't complain.
Gidiup
😀😃😄😁😆👍‼️
LOL. No temp testing again? Your shill rating has been updated from 8 to 9/10. Come on dude.
What's happening with IMR Enduron series of powders lately? Haven't seen any lately...anywhere. Are they still being produced?
Apparently, not being produced at this time and no published plan for when it will be - not reported as end of line but would not be suprising if suspended indefinitely if another equalvalent is produced and becomes popular. The Staball range may be the hot new versions and meter better using the same recipe
