The early models had a chain driven oil pump that sat outside the motor. The chain would fail and the oil pump would stop working and burn up the engine. This gave a bit of a bad reputation for the tractor. It was later corrected to have an internal oil pump. The 8-16 was to replace the titan 10-20 but the titan 10-20 continued production after the 8-16 due to poor sales. The entire tractor had many changes over its time. There was a limited production version that had a rear PTO which would have made it the earliest tractor with a rear PTO. Jamie's tractor at Tuckahoe is the only known example out of around 50 or so built. I also have a late 8-16 myself it is a neat machine based on its history and design. Leroy Baumgardner wrote a history book on them in the 80s. They used the chassis for many prototypes including a steam tractor.
