      @@mangakavidit4764 You want to be putting force into the ground quickly. Think of it like a hammer or lever. When your arm comes down, your opposite foot goes down with it.
      My advice would be learn A-skips to focus on the lever/hammer movements and B-skips to focus on striking the ground. Remember, focus on hammering down the arms when doing the drills and sprinting, not swinging them up

    Foot strike is incredibly important because it determines the amount of time the foot spends on the ground which often times determines whether or not you'll beat the next guy. This one aspect occupies most of my time and concentration when training. If correct, it feels like gliding. It's sort of like when skipping a rock across water. In this video, the foot strike is taking a little longer because the heel is sinking into the ground which takes time. I think this is the issue that most people have. It is incredibly hard to fix but possible. Just gave away my secret....

    I'm not a sprinter, but i'm a long-ish distance runner. I want to run 1500. My brother was a phenomenal 1500 runner. He holds 7 school records, and i want to get at least somewhat close to his record. I realized just how important form was, when i ran the mile. Just from changing my form and mindset, my mile went from a 6:40 to a 5:55. I want to break that down to under 5 next year. I think i could do it, given how fast i have been improving with my running.

      Hi Ebby, I have videos coming soon on how to "bulletproof" your knees for running. In the meantime I suggest taking it easy and strengthening the muscles around your knee such as hamstring, quads, and shins.

      I've found running on softer surfaces like a football field, a beach, etc., can be easier on the knees and other joints. Another option would be to find a street block with a good incline: run up the hill, and walk down.

    I’m a total newb but the first point about the arms is pretty unarguable for me. Right away when I started I had this intense tightness and pain all through my palms to my shoulders, like the blood vessels were being crushed or something. At first I thought it was a strength issue, but as soon as I looked it up it was easy to fix. I bet that was helpful for really new people to see here. Since you expect pain starting a new workout, people might not even know it’s a problem!

    What about landing. I’m taking a class right now in school and we were doing some sprints and my teacher was telling us to land on our toes and never let our heels touch the ground. I don’t know if this is right or not and I find I run a lot slower this way.

    • @TheSprintProject_
      @TheSprintProject_  3 роки тому +18

      Whether or not the heel contacts the ground is highly debated topic in sprinting. However if we look at the highest level sprinters we will see this: Their forefoot initially makes contact with the ground and then their heel drops to the ground a split second later.

      @Randummm, there is a reason the spikes are located in the front third of running shoe and not in the heel.

      @Randummm "come at the ground heel-first, with toes up...but the heel never hits" This is a direction contradiction. Useless description.

    Thank you for your channel. Your tips have helped me keep up with the 20 year olds in my 40s (pickup soccer). While I usually don’t get to my top speed in a game (20 mph) my speed off the line is starting to improve. Still a ways to go. How do you measure how long or how far it takes you to hit your top speed?
