I played this game for hours and to me it stands out as the greatest wrestling game I ever played (I have not play that many since) Great to see a video that brings back nostalgia
It's ironic that all these years later No Mercy is still thought of as being that great, while upon release one of the dominant forum topics was actually the data erase glitch, like most people have no idea we wouldn't see better, maybe ever. My game didn't have this issue though and I got it day 1. The slowdown was helped if you shut off the music in 4 man matches.
Reasons why Wrestlemania 2000 is actually better than No Mercy: 1. It has the Big Show 2. Road to Wrestlemania is actually better than Championship mode and it doesn't have a lame Steven Richards story line. 2. The Undertaker actually has his entrance music. 3. The Undertaker's special is the Tombstone (not the last ride) and you can do his signature pin 4. Full length ring entrances 5. Cage matches are much more reasonable (on hard difficulty). 6. The overall pageantry is magnificent!
Detail of a magazine and looking close to upcoming wrestling games haha what a memory of being a kid and obsessed with wrestling was. I also I clouded collecting the strategy books for the collection of games man
Hell yeah! Such damn good memories! I still play all of these games. I love all of the N64 wrestling games with the exception of the terrible WCW Nitro. Oh and my go to wrestler is the GOAT The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels!
@@n64glennplant Agreed! N64 and PS2 killed it with the wrestling games. It's a shame we never got a proper ECW game. So most potential for an awesome game but Acclaim being Acclaim gave us 2 attitude rehashes. I still thought it was amazing to see an actual ECW game as I love the promotion so damn much.
WWF No Mercy is my favorite game of all time. I haven't played it in a couple of years. But I'm always planning on going back to it. It's alot of work for me because I'm obsessed with creating every wrestler. I still play on N64 when I do, with GameShark enhancements. I have roughly 730 CAWs backed up via Dex Drive.
Thanks so much Glen! I've been patiently waiting for this video and it's finally here. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip down memory lane as I've played all of the wwf titles. Each one has their own strong suit, absolutely. WWF Attitude is the main event when it comes to customization on the N64. Everything from the characters to the arenas can be altered and changed, it's really a ton of fun to go back to, even today. WrestleMania 2000 is the king of the ring in the presentation department. Sporting both intros and outros for many wrestlers and titantron videos during entrances. This game looks just as good as it plays. Lastly, WWF No Mercy lays the smackdown on both of those games with updated arenas, better wrestler models and the best backstage brawling this side of the squared circle! Shortened entrances and a grind-heavy creation system are the only things that keep it from true greatness.. unlike this video review, which is the real champion!
WrestleMania 2000 was my all time favourite and most played, I had the glitched copy of No Mercy where your save file would disappear so sadly I could never put the time into that as much as I wanted
Thank you very much Glenn for these reviews of wrestling games (WWF and WCW) for N64. I was looking for a game to introduce me to the culture of this sport, but I found myself a bit dizzy and confused among so many "similar" options (for those of us who have no knowledge of this sport, it is difficult to distinguish the pros and cons of each game ). I had seen the individual videos of each game, but these summary comparisons are very useful and enlightening.
@N64 green plant. 1) I don't see why WWF couldn't have went ahead and released Backlash for 64... When the system had a whole nother year and some change in its lifespan... 2) THQ could have improved that next game.. By increasing the memory/bit size to like 500 gb....
WWF No Mercy was an incredible game. even among todays available games i'd rate it among the best. graphics don't make a great game. gameplay, story and content does.
I actually became a fan of WWF because of Wrestlemania 2000. WWE started broadcasting on free TV on my country until mid-late 2008, but I knew several of the wrestlers because videogames, and everything started with that game.

Oh man, WrestleMania 2000 was one of my absolute favorite N64 games back in the day. I remember FINALLY unlocking Shawn Michaels after playing Road To WrestleMania for a good 8 1/2 months (including a restart, after failing to reach WWE championship contender status). I also remember the game having a pretty amazing Easter egg: around the time it was released (though after obviously its roster was finalized), the Headbangers reunited. Lo and behold: not only were Chaz's original "Mosh" uniform and theme music available in the Wrestler Editor mode, but if you gave him all that and paired him with Thrasher in a tag team match, the two wrestlers would come out as the Headbangers! So ThQ and AKI apparently foresaw that the team would at some point reunite, and programmed this little "extra" accordingly.
Yay a new video! Feels like forever since you uploaded a new video. Love it, mate! Also, a little unknown fact for most gamers, WWF War Zone started out as code name WWF '98 for the PS-X.
@@pizzahighfive2612 You could somewhat say that but legitimately nah. Backlash was even showed in the magazines and literally had all the No Mercy mechanics but with hell in a cell added and 2000 to 2001s superstars and suggesting some slight gameplay upgrades

Glenn's back and better than ever, got a knack for making things better! Some people forget that WWF WarZone was better than the SNES WWF games (except perhaps WM Arcade Edition), so it was rightfully well received. Luckily for us the people at AKI were passionate about wrestling and made their masterpieces, which rightfully overshadow wrestling games even today. I still watch BeBetterGamer play the N64 AKI games to this day on twitch. Freem is often in the chat talking about how to hack AKI games and his hopes to make a AKI style wrestling game in the future.
WWF Attitude actually got delayed twice. Its original release date was March 1999. The roster was based on late 1998 which is why it felt extremely outdated when the game released in August 1999.
No Mercy is easily one of the greatest wrestling games ever. The Aki Engine games are the only ones worth a damn. Playing Attitude/Warzone/ECW is a painful experience I wouldn't wish on my worst enemies.
@@n64glennplant Guess you could spend a lot of time in 2000s or No Mercys CAW modes and make ecw wrestlers. That's probably your best solution, unless you wanna play around with mods people have made (dunno if there is an ecw one tho)
The replacement No Mercy carts did fix the memory card issue, but the WWE sneakily made THQ remove all blood from that version too. But it's a shame 2K haven't considered releasing a new WWE game using this engine, especially as they made such a pig's ear with WWE2K20, that they probably won't be releasing a 2K21 for financial reasons.
Attitude was definitely better than War Zone. War Zone ends up feeling like an early beta version of Attitude once you've played both. It's a pretty big omission that you didn't mention the pioneering robust Create A Wrestler feature Attitude debuted. To me that was maybe the biggest addition from Attitude and something even the prior and superior AKI games didn't have. I know I spent a lot of time making wrestlers.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the create-a-wrestler options in the Aclaim games. At the time, that was a huge draw for me. The most indepth character creation mode at the time.
I had fun with all of these games. World Tour was the first and nothing was like it...then Warzone and it was fun because of all the cool features, Revenge was such an upgrade and great game with it's roster and updated division (WCW, NWO, Wolfpack, etc), then Attitude had more features, but wasnt really that good, 2000 was another upgrade with the gameplay and switching to WWF, then of course No Mercy had it all....except complete entrances.
Do you have a top 10 or top 25 N64 list? Would love to see you rankings. Top 5 games per genre (kart racers, platformers, racing, adventure, wrestling) would be interesting to see also
While I never was into the N64 Wrestling games, I did have a laugh at some of the Screen Shots and funny comments from N64 and 64 Magazine in their reviews of these WWF and WCW wrestling games. One was really funny in my teenage mind was "The Rock Vs Mankind, what all of us?"
Ahhhh man, WWF is a nice addition to the N64. Too bad the N64 isn't considered that good to many, so people missed on these good games. I wonder if it wasn't just the use of cartridges that took people away from the N64(Superman 64 was probably another thing that took people away from it as well, since the game is 1 of the most well known N64 games, & is downright abysmal).
@@n64glennplant thatd be sick. i also find it interesting you mention an AEW pack for no mercy bc its def possible.. unfortunately i was born 2 yrs after owen harts death but upon rewatching most of the attitude era he was definitely one of the greatest ever. i even prefer him to bret which ig is an unpopular take as well. anyway, if you get your bro on the show thatd be really cool.
@@n64glennplant your welcome bro, I have my N64 console right now and I play with all my favorite Wrestlers on the THQ/AKI WWF WCW Games. It's fun as hell brother
I played No Mercy for a while before getting my GameCube. Due to the fact that THQ/AKI did the WCW games, putting in the WCW invaders, like Booker T and Diamond Dallas Page, was a snap. I like how they also included Raven’s creation parts, like his costume and tattoos. Sadly, if you wanted Big Show, you had to create him. He was replaced by Steven Richards in the story mode.
@@n64glennplant You talk about the modding community surrounding No Mercy to this day - I would love to see a video from you about this, and the "best" mods! Thanks for your awesome content!
The thing I didn't like about THQ's wrestling games were the character model's proportions, they looked more like those action figures from back them with bigger heads and torsos, their arms also look like they're attached .
I had both Attitude and No Mercy, but also rented the earlier wrestling games by those developers. It was weird how my opinion of them changed. I had attitude first and I suppose I just enjoyed it because I had nothing else. But in comparison to No Mercy and that AKI style of game, I soon realized how much worse it was mechanically. The audio of things like entrance music and commentary was much higher in Attitude and some presentation things like that, but actual gameplay could not stand up in my opinion. Also, the animations of the Acclaim game were stiff as hell. I remember looking at the stunner in both games and noticing how the animation in No Mercy just had so much more character to it. There were just a whole list of things like positioning abilities and a more comprehensive reversal system ect that made me respect the craft that went into the AKI games.
My cousin bought war zone and it was trash the moment we played it. Controls were too complicated and the players were stiff and blocky looking. World tour shat on this game in everyway and we played that all summer
18 and got both this and the early bug version as hand me downs, spent hours on caw sheets and all , have all aki games and war zone, found a glitch in no mercy where weapons become twice their size and it’s fuckin insane, the games still great, can’t wait to mod the shit out of it for an elimination chamber one day.
Rumour has it that AEW has tho!!!!!
I guess I got lucky. Got No Mercy right when it came out and never had my data wipe
I must have an original copy then 'cause my copy of the game has blood in it.
We missed you a lot😢😢😢
Thanks private! 🔫
Great video pal. I remember all of these games. I remember having a created wrestler on WWF No Mercy named Kiwi. lol.
Lol wA that a knock off lowki?
Yeah lol.
I used to own No mercy. incredible experience.
One of GOAT games 🐐
Glad to see you're back!
And I’m glad you’re still here 😬
Man I collected all wrestling games for n64 Japan included as well. Now going to collect all wrestling games for the ps1
Please see the actual review of Warzone, this wasn’t the place to go into review level detail 👍
Finally glenn plant has returned to youtube
If ya smelllllllllll.....
@@n64glennplant WHAT?
thanks for these vids
And thanks for watching Thomas!
The main issue with Warzone on N64 - no Fun with Ahmed!
I never liked Ahmed Johnson
Warzone and no mercy was def fun times but me and bro like warzone just a tad bit more .
No mercy for me, loads of memories for this but no mercy is the better game imho
I'm surprised you didn't mention the create-a-wrestler options in the Aclaim games. At the time, that was a huge draw for me. The most indepth character creation mode at the time.
I think I mention that in the full review
I had fun with all of these games. World Tour was the first and nothing was like it...then Warzone and it was fun because of all the cool features, Revenge was such an upgrade and great game with it's roster and updated division (WCW, NWO, Wolfpack, etc), then Attitude had more features, but wasnt really that good, 2000 was another upgrade with the gameplay and switching to WWF, then of course No Mercy had it all....except complete entrances.
Great summary!
Mad overdue video Glenn
Needed some time away from UA-cam 👍
You there, there you are Glenn, you're coming back, I hope you're doing good.
Thanks Wesley hope you’re well too
Great seeing another video from you dude!
Thanks Tim, needed some time off to
Look after my wife 👍
@@n64glennplant Of course, family always comes first!
Do you have a top 10 or top 25 N64 list? Would love to see you rankings. Top 5 games per genre (kart racers, platformers, racing, adventure, wrestling) would be interesting to see also
That’s a cool idea, maybe this ear at some point
The consoles fun and like all consoles it has its high and low points 👍
@@n64glennplant Yes, we all know that.
Except the R-Zone, that thing could just go in the trash.
been watching for yrs now. the story between you and your brother was sweet
Who knows, maybe one day I’ll get him on the channel too 😬
@@n64glennplant thatd be sick. i also find it interesting you mention an AEW pack for no mercy bc its def possible.. unfortunately i was born 2 yrs after owen harts death but upon rewatching most of the attitude era he was definitely one of the greatest ever. i even prefer him to bret which ig is an unpopular take as well. anyway, if you get your bro on the show thatd be really cool.
Glad ur back Glenn!!!
Thanks Jorge 👍
Wrestlemania 2000 and wwf no mercy and wwf smackdown and wwf smackdown 2 know your role are the best wwf games of the fifth console generation
I agree 100%
My favorite game is WWF Wrestemania 2000 N64 and WWF No Mercy and WCW vs NWo Revenge N64"""
Great choices
Raven 👍😍
I missed u so much never leave me alone again
Embrace me brother 😂
Akklaim was so bad at this ... Who allowed them to do 3 wrestling games???
4 if you count the second Ecw that the n64 didn’t get
This was my world back with the N64
Amazing innit!
Thank goodness you are back! Loved this video! Can’t wait until you do Legacy of Darkness review!
Depending on how the rest of the year goes I’ll aim to have that wrapped up by year end
Finally a new video!
I’m back 😍
Undertaker theme is still good in this version
Was getting worried about you, man!
Thanks but I’m all good, took time away to look after my wife 👍
@@n64glennplant Hope everything is alright
Awesome video 👌
Thanks James
@@n64glennplant You talk about the modding community surrounding No Mercy to this day - I would love to see a video from you about this, and the "best" mods! Thanks for your awesome content!
Welcome back glenn
Thanks K
@@n64glennplant you're welcome dude keep em coming.
Yeah I think the stunner is one of those moves where you can really see the difference
My cousin bought war zone and it was trash the moment we played it. Controls were too complicated and the players were stiff and blocky looking. World tour shat on this game in everyway and we played that all summer
Revenge is still freaking awesome and world tour too
18 and got both this and the early bug version as hand me downs, spent hours on caw sheets and all , have all aki games and war zone, found a glitch in no mercy where weapons become twice their size and it’s fuckin insane, the games still great, can’t wait to mod the shit out of it for an elimination chamber one day.
Fav wrestler: CAW bret hart or CAW RVD.
Elimination chamber would be awesome 😬
for tasteful reasons he had to be removed? i think including blue blazer in the game would have been a massive tribute.
That’s one way to see it but I think they didn’t want kids doing stupid crap like trying to jump off the turnbuckles in stupid ways
Unfortunately my taste for wrestling games grew a bit later in life, but my brother and cousin did love playing them and I sometimes would play as the referee....yea then i got beat up for that lol.
My fav wresting game is actually Smackdown: Here comes the pain!
That’s one of my fav games too!
surprised a new video is out.
My wife is doing much better so I now have more available time
AKI moved to the GameCube with the ultimate Muscle game. They did the DEF JAM games too. That aki script needs patenting of it doesn't already. 💯
Welcome back once again, Glenn!
Thanks Jiggy 👌
Great video dude
