I absolutely love my N64 (tied first as my favorite console of all time), but you see... even though I say that, there're cases where you think twice about its 64 bit performance. PS1 was a real cheater of a console (if yoy want I'll explain that), but nevertheless it ran games with higher framerate, higher res textures and sometimes even more polygons per second, and was 32 bit. For quite some time I thought that was quite insteresting... the fact is, when you see games like Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, both Zeldas, Conker's, TWINE and many more, those absolutely yell 64 bit. Any of those absolutely obliterates the PS1, to a point it leaves zero doubt which console was more capable. If the entire library of N64 games isn't up to the same level, it says more about the developers than the hardware's capabilities. I mean, Goldeneye looks GORGEOUS even in 2019. That's quite a feat running on a 1996 hardware. The N64 was immensely powerful when properly programmed for.
Now if only the console wasn’t so hard to make games for we might get some new games on it

@@n64glennplant Glenn, love your channel, LOVE it!! Here's a topic suggestion for a future video: why can't developers keep producing games for old hardware? Here's why it should be a good idea: hardware is old, games for it are simple, definitely simpler than current gen games, so if a developer assembles a team of 20 people they can definitely produce AAA games. If I recall, Perfect Dark was made with a 20 people team. 20 people paycheck shouldn't worry a Rockstar, for example. And by this point, it's quite obvious there's a clear market for it. Retro Gaming has never been so popular and so lucrative like it is now. People are buying N64, Saturn, 3do (to name a few) left and right. I believe new N64 games should be easier (and cheaper) than ever to produce (memory is cheap, production costs are low, small teams, etc) and there's a clearly defined market that would buy every single new title produced. What are your thoughts on this subject? Once again, love your channel !!!! Keep up the amazing work!
Unfortunately missed out on Goldeneye growing up. Don't really have any favorite licenced games on N64. Though on other platforms there's: 007 Nightfire (PS2), Lord of The Rings The Return of The King (PS2), Shrek 2 (PS2), Spiderman 2 (GameCube). Once again, thanks for another top quality video! Even though these games don't really appeal to me. You somehow make them more engaging to watch. With how they relate to the history of the N64, the developers and other factors. It's like traveling back in time.

I don't know why, but TWINE controls always felt weird to me. I can't even pinpoint what is it, it just feels something is off. Besides that, it's a pretty good game. Didn't have this issue with Goldeneye, but maybe I'm biased 'cause it was the first N64 game I ever played
A Bug's Life was my 2nd ever N64 game after Ocarina of Time....quite the steep drop in quality haha. I remember having fun messing around with it, I would just run around the levels and not take things too seriously whereas Zelda was the game I actually invested time and TRIED to make progress in. I never actually beat A Bug's Life back in the day either, I remember the slippery controls frustrating me to the point of just not playing it anymore. Only managed to beat it recently! Overall: Meh. Best N64 movie games were TWINE, Podracer and Toy Story 2 easily! Toy Story 2 I especially loved when I was younger and played BEFORE Banjo Kazooie...so the size of the levels wowed me. Great video as always Glenn, takes me back!
True dat! Although saying that wasn’t the franchise pretty much dead during the N64 era before it made a come back? I’m not a turtles buff so I forget what was happening in those late 90s years
@@n64glennplant Glenn, it's was in somewhat of a limbo state as far as narrative releases were concerned but the fanbase was still very much there and waiting with comics and toys etc still being lapped up by fabs. Just feel they should have given it a shot as who wouldn't want a 4 player co-op sofa brawler with their buds?
I'm playing Goldeneye for the first time in 2019. Great fun. "My Goldeneye" was TWINE back then. I wonder however, why most footage has Auto Assist. No offense, but what's the point? I even turn it off in online multiplayer games (despite the disadvantage it brings). Aim Assist ruins shooters.
When I record I generally stick to default settings in game as otherwise I end to get swamped with people saying I’ve somehow bastardised their childhood by not playing exactly how they remembered it 😂
Not many games to love from movie licenses. But Goldeneye is probably the only good one but Stars Episode 1: Racer was another good one, because I played it with friends alot.
Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official game of the Movie, is a great video game adaptation. The real actors lended their voices and the music and atmosphere is superb. In fact, the atmosphere is so good that it's easy to ignore all the glitches and huge hit boxes that the creatures and dinosaurs of Skull Island have.
I'm liking this collections series. M.I is one my fondest memories, remember waiting outside blockbuster during their shipment and renting it right when they opened. Something about it is so unique, I think due to goldeneye being the gold standard to shoot for. I remember seeing the ads at toys r us before release and thinking the game was just gonna be insane. Too bad scientologist Tom Cruz said his face cant be in a violent video game since xenu will label him a intergaltic terrorist and will totally wack up your thetan levels. Kek 64:Illuminati of Time features the best level of the game. I'm not sure you heard about that game ;) Simpleflips and Hard4games give it a 10/10
I think I made a comment about this on your A Bug's Life review, but I grew up with the PS1 version of A Bug's Life and I absolutely loved it back then. Sure, it's not a great game overall (Especially when compared to the sublime Toy Story 2), but the way I see it is that if you play through it instead of completing every level objective, it can be a blast. Having said all that, I can totally understand why it's hated by some. :D
For the movie based games the two Starwars games are my favorite but Battle for Naboo definitely takes the cake. Third place goes to Golden Eye, Never got the chance to play with someone else and my sisters weren't to interested. I remember wasting countless hours watching the guards in that snow level spying what they would do through my sniper, ahh good times. Toystory 2 was ok and fun, it belonged to one of my sisters; I ended up selling it to buy another game. As for Tarzan not a fan, I agreed the controls were to weird also the game itself felt to short and lacked any sense of depth to me. I think you've missed Mission: Impossible, I haven't played that one by the way.
Awesome Video and List !!! I got GOLDENEYE but I don't have any other Game on this List. I like to get the TOY STORY 2 Game, it looks like fun. Greetings ;-)
I still apologize to my mom for dragging her to the video store at the early hours of the day to rent a copy of 'A Bugs Life' as a child. I could not get past that first level.
@@n64glennplant Twice, once to rent Bugs Life, the other the was to buy a used copy of Doom 64 the store was getting rid of. The latter time was worth it 😂
As much I love Goldeneye I find it almost unplayable when going back to it in 2019 mostly due to the controls and being so used to playing FPS's with 2 sticks. I just can't get accustomed to it. It wrecks my head just trying to get through a level. Of course there's always the duel-wielding mode where you use 2 pads but that's not ideal. I wish more N64 FPS's had fully customizable controls like Quake 1 & 2 do. You can play those titles with modern(ish) controls and they play great as a result.
Just wondering, have you spent much time grappling with control scheme 1.2 (Solitaire)? It basically acts like a left-handed dual-stick setup: Aim with left stick, walk with C buttons, shoot with Z trigger, scope with R button. Oh, and inverted aim may actually be worth trying, as crazy as it sounds! Personally, I can switch between that and a typical dual-stick game (e.g., Halo) easily, and both feel natural and easy to aim with... but your mileage may vary.

I think the shooting in The World Is Not Enough is absolutely horrendous; the guns don’t feel meaty, the sound effects make them sound like a potato gun, and the animations of the bad guys when shot is just awful. Goldeneye 007 is superior to TWINE in every conceivable way. Great video nonetheless! 👍🏻
@@n64glennplant By the way, my issue with the dreamcast version is that the joystick isn't accurate at all, so you have to play with the D pad which is very hard on your fingers on the DC..
SAME HERE!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS GAME BACK IN THE DAY AND I STILL HAVE MY ORIGINAL COPY OF IT WITH THE BOX AND MANUAL!!! I recently replayed it and I still felt the same satisfaction I did the first time I popped it in
I hold the biased opinion that A Bug's Life is quite good because I played it so much when i was a kid. It was one of the 12 or so games I had back then so I learned to love it! And yes... 100%ing it is no joke, very tedious
I'm just thoroughly enamored by TWINE's engine. You can tell how smartly it's utilizing the hardware, those shadows, the textures, AI, animations, and it's all used to push along a rock n' roll roller coaster of a experience. A bit tough with al those buttons, but wow! And, I find the multiplayer much better for two players over goldeneye, with the bots and extra modes, and side-by-side widescreen view And I'm sorry, but does that Rugrats game actually look good? 0.o And I picked up Naboo from your previous Star Wars video, thanks!
I love the visuals of the HDMI modded N64 you are using for these captures, but I must say it handles rather poorly interlaced video. I hate the interlaced artifacts that are showing in the Star Wars Racer and Battle for Naboo shots.
Do you have any tips for emulating N64 Mr Plant please? Currently just running Project 64 2.3.2.202 is this what everyone does or is there something better? I do have all original hardware at the house of course but traveling its laptop and Xbox 360 game-pad. Have you ever tried a USB N64 controller? I am just wondering if you have any experience at all so I could try get the most enjoyment/closest experience to original hardware from emulation when I have to settle on trips. Sorry to just pop this here, I dont know how else I can ask you something. :) Love the channel.
im still not sure what was wrong with the pc version of battle for naboo? i dont have a way to play the n64 version but the pc version wasnt giving me any problems
As a Star Wars fan I never like the prequel trilogy films specially the first one but some of games set in those films are good me and my older brother really enjoyed playing the pod racer game for example. Star Wars Episode I Racer and Star Wars Battle for Naboo are good examples of movie licence video games that are better movie itself. Also am glad that you enjoy the current trilogy so far like I do and what is thoughts on the spinoff films like Rouge One and Han Solo did you enjoy them to?
I had a ps1 at the same time as N64 but always found it more of a disposable console because I hd copies games so if thy weren’t fun I’d stop playing very quickly with ps1
The best movie games on the console are GE, TWINE, Ep 1 Racer, Battle for Naboo, and Mission Impossible. The rest are meh, but those ones are pure gems
I don't rate a game based in whether I liked the movie or not. The star fighter series on ps2 were solid games based on the crappy prequel trilogy and are deffo worth playing.
@@n64glennplant star wars starfighter and jedi starfighter both on ps2 and set in the prequel universe. Both pretty good fun. Although they dont follow the stories of any of the movie characters
4:00 Isn't the Dreamcast version of Toy Story 2 full of graphical bugs? No, seriously, this is not a rhetorical question. Is it or is it not? EDIT: While the Dreamcast version of Star Wars Episode I: Racer has better framerate, added lighting effects, more music and cutscenes, all of that comes with the cost of screen loading and the lack of the 2 hidden characters of the N64 version, so I'm a little divided between these 2 versions. On a personal note, I enjoyed Rogue Squadron on the N64 but I think I enjoyed Battle for Naboo even more due to the 2 space levels. I'm a sucker for astrophysics and space exploration.
I honestly did not mind it x3 But I played it as a kid and going back to it I don't think it's horrible, not great but not the worst thing in the world.
@@n64glennplant Oh definitely. I don't mean it in a funny way, I feel like it's so bad that it makes me feel so sad for you. Seriously, I actually feel so sorry for you man :(.
To me goldeneye was better. Not by much though. TWINE 64 was a good game, but was also different. GE's levels were less linear. Multiplayer in each game was complimentary, but different with twine having bots and king of the hill mode. I only played tarzan on the ps1 and I enjoyed it. The ps1 version was better with movie clips and bonus scenes between each level. I had a bugs life for the ps1 and enjoyed it, until it was destroyed by someone. Never beat it. It was a slower platformer then say mario.
Goldeneye was definitely the better Bond shooter, but TWINE had perhaps the best movie-to-game TV commercial of all time! ua-cam.com/video/HTVGwqVc4Lc/v-deo.html
TWINE was great when it focused on the shooting and stealth elements. The issue with TWINE is the design choices where if one hostage is hit by an enemy bullet or your bullet.....just one bullet. It's Mission Failure. It was a pain on 00 Agent difficulty. In GE hostages took several shots to die and you could let a few die before you fail. Not to mention the last level in TWINE was an awkward puzzle underwater. Have Bond in a massive shootout in the crashed sub with Renard and his goons instead. I get that EA wanted to nail that 100% Bond factor but undeniably Goldeneye holds the superior gaming design choices.

I quite liked lord of the rings on ps2 even though I’m not a lord of the rings fan
Anybody else remember when EA made good games?
I’m 34 so I sure do, sad what they’ve become now
@@n64glennplant i'm so old, the country where i was born didn't exist anymore. And yes, i still can remember these "golden" EA times too.

I don't know why, but TWINE controls always felt weird to me. I can't even pinpoint what is it, it just feels something is off. Besides that, it's a pretty good game.
Didn't have this issue with Goldeneye, but maybe I'm biased 'cause it was the first N64 game I ever played
Could be the auto aim being on by default - try running it off which should help it feel more natural
The custom console in the thumbnail 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Beauty right
A Bug's Life was my 2nd ever N64 game after Ocarina of Time....quite the steep drop in quality haha.
I love your content! Your voice has become iconic to me, haha! I've come to really enjoy watching your videos for quite some time now.
Haha thank you for appreciating my vocal chords 😂
Always thought it was a crying shame not to have has a 4 player Ninja Turtles game on the N64. One of the only Nintendo consoles not to have one
If there was a Ninja Turtles game on the N64, it would've been based off the Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation tv series.
@@maverickhuntermeta4954 We do not speak of the Next Mutation 😐
I'm playing Goldeneye for the first time in 2019. Great fun.
"My Goldeneye" was TWINE back then.
I wonder however, why most footage has Auto Assist. No offense, but what's the point?
I even turn it off in online multiplayer games (despite the disadvantage it brings). Aim Assist ruins shooters.
When I record I generally stick to default settings in game as otherwise I end to get swamped with people saying I’ve somehow bastardised their childhood by not playing exactly how they remembered it 😂
Your narration is getting better mate. Good work
Cheers Dean 👍
Goldeneye and Shadows of the Empire are my very best games of a time.
Another great video, Glenn! I have to admit I skipped most movie tie ins, but the Battle for Naboo seems to be worth checking out at least.
That’s a great title!
Not many games to love from movie licenses. But Goldeneye is probably the only good one but Stars Episode 1: Racer was another good one, because I played it with friends alot.
Both classics in their own right 👍
Tarzan is kinda underrated. Great game!
I think so too
A licensed game I really enjoyed for the N64, though not a movie license, was Duck Dodgers.
Didn't the Dreamcast version of Toy Story 2 had awkward controls where you can only move at a diagonal direction with the analog stick?
The controls are trickier to get to grips with but the game runs much more smoothly so is a trade off for many with no perfect way to play the game
Goldeneye is the best game
Is that your fav of all time or just of the N64 ones on this run down?
It is my favorite game for the Nintendo 64
Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official game of the Movie, is a great video game adaptation.
The real actors lended their voices and the music and atmosphere is superb. In fact, the atmosphere is so good that it's easy to ignore all the glitches and huge hit boxes that the creatures and dinosaurs of Skull Island have.
I remember that being great for Xbox achievement points
I think most people can agree that the absolute best game based on a movie was Riddick. Both the original and sequel were incredible games!
I'm not sure you heard about that game ;) Simpleflips and Hard4games give it a 10/10
Haha I’ve played kek its very random!
As for movie games there was also batman beyond return of the joker but I guess that's more of an extension of the TV show.
Yup that’s why I didn’t include that one but it will be part of a future episode again 👍
Looking forward to it.
Was surprised to not see MIssion Impossible since its plot was loosely based on the first movie with Tom Cruise. Great video anyway
The game is based more on the tv show 👍
I think I made a comment about this on your A Bug's Life review, but I grew up with the PS1 version of A Bug's Life and I absolutely loved it back then.
Mission impossible is based off the tv show not the movie mostly
@@n64glennplant Oh, I didn't know there was a TV show.
Awesome Video and List !!!
I got GOLDENEYE but I don't have any other Game on this List. I like to get the TOY STORY 2 Game, it looks like fun.

I still apologize to my mom for dragging her to the video store at the early hours of the day to rent a copy of 'A Bugs Life' as a child. I could not get past that first level.
Haha whoa how many times did you make her do that
@@n64glennplant Twice, once to rent Bugs Life, the other the was to buy a used copy of Doom 64 the store was getting rid of.
I think I’m generally ok playing Goldeneye in this era because I played so much in my youth that it’s engrained in my soul 😂
Personally, I can switch between that and a typical dual-stick game (e.g., Halo) easily, and both feel natural and easy to aim with... but your mileage may vary.
dude, I used to love bugs life, I do agree that it was bad level design but I still loved it!
007 golden eye was the first n64 game i ever played on. 9 2 1997 at my then and current local best buy

Goldeneye was the Best game ever. Multiplayer was amazing. More fun that any FPS ever made
Which game?
Oh sorry, lol goldeneye!!
Another great video, cheers.
🙏🏼
I think the shooting in The World Is Not Enough is absolutely horrendous; the guns don’t feel meaty, the sound effects make them sound like a potato gun, and the animations of the bad guys when shot is just awful. Goldeneye 007 is superior to TWINE in every conceivable way.
Great video nonetheless! 👍🏻
Many prefer playing twine with auto aim turned off
Exactly. Goldeneye is way better! I can’t believe this is even being debated.

Toy Story 2 is a FANTASTIC game, one of my favorites from my childhood and I still play it every year.
Agreed 😬
Fans: Movie based video games suck
Goldeneye: Hold my martini
True dat!
hey awesome review, i loved these games as a kid and i still play them now. what programs? and screen recorder do you use to make these videos?
With how successful goldeneye was, I can't believe EA didn't continue that momentum with tomorrow never dies on the n64. Missed opportunity
Yeah tell me about it
I only had Battle for Naboo on PC and it was a mess. Now I know why, haha. I shunned the game without ever checking out the N64 version.
It’s THE version to own 😬
I'm just thoroughly enamored by TWINE's engine. You can tell how smartly it's utilizing the hardware, those shadows, the textures, AI, animations, and it's all used to push along a rock n' roll roller coaster of a experience. A bit tough with al those buttons, but wow!
And, I find the multiplayer much better for two players over goldeneye, with the bots and extra modes, and side-by-side widescreen view
And I'm sorry, but does that Rugrats game actually look good? 0.o
And I picked up Naboo from your previous Star Wars video, thanks!
Haha Rugrats in Paris is okay for kids but there’s no depth at all
I love the visuals of the HDMI modded N64 you are using for these captures, but I must say it handles rather poorly interlaced video.
:) Love the channel.
sorry I don't use emulators but hopefully someone here will be able to comment and help you
im still not sure what was wrong with the pc version of battle for naboo? i dont have a way to play the n64 version but the pc version wasnt giving me any problems
Nothing wrong per-say it’s just that the N64 version is superior as was the case with rogue squadron too
As a Star Wars fan I never like the prequel trilogy films specially the first one but some of games set in those films are good me and my older brother really enjoyed playing the pod racer game for example.
I enjoyed those and I’m looking forward to the mandolorian too
@@n64glennplant I haven't Han Solo yet but I definitely love to see it sometime in future as well as Mandolorian. :)
12:07 Star Wars Episode I: Racer unfortunately only has 2-Player Splitscreen, not 4. :(
Yeah slip of the tongue clarified in comments here already 👍
Your N64 reviews are awesome but do you consider ever reviewing PS1 games? I'd love to see that someday!!
I had a ps1 at the same time as N64 but always found it more of a disposable console because I hd copies games so if thy weren’t fun I’d stop playing very quickly with ps1
I wonder if they used any of the original meshes from the film in Toy Story 2
I loved a bugs life as a kid although playing it a couple of years ago I found it a very terrible game to be fair
I think others will remember it being better too
The best movie games on the console are GE, TWINE, Ep 1 Racer, Battle for Naboo, and Mission Impossible.
The rest are meh, but those ones are pure gems
Mission impossibles based on the tv show with elements from the movie 👍
Did Episode 1 Racer really have a 4 player split-screen mode? I remember it only having 2 player.
It was 2 🙃
I never did complete that game 😔 I tried and tried. Not the best at racers.
I don't rate a game based in whether I liked the movie or not. The star fighter series on ps2 were solid games based on the crappy prequel trilogy and are deffo worth playing.
I don’t know starfighter
@@n64glennplant star wars starfighter and jedi starfighter both on ps2 and set in the prequel universe. Both pretty good fun. Although they dont follow the stories of any of the movie characters
I love TWINE 007 😊
What’s your fav mission?
Has Nintendo done a movie licensed game since GoldenEye?
Not that I can think of but Goldeneye was rare and they havnt either
Does the Goldeneye Reloaded game count?
Toy story was so gooooood.

@@n64glennplant for me it's the original or the second, you can't beat the nostalgia and magic those films have!

what about mission impossible?
The game was based off the tv series license but used some scenes from the movie for set pieces
I remember renting the psx version of bugs life at blockbuster. Ruined my whole weekend.
I too really disliked that horribly made game
I honestly did not mind it x3 But I played it as a kid and going back to it I don't think it's horrible, not great but not the worst thing in the world.
What about Indiana Jones? I know it's "The Infernal Machine" but it's still based on Lucas Arts movies/stories.
That’s right - I’m human 😬
For me, The World Is Not Enough is a case where the game is VASTLY superior to the film it's based off of.

The license was from TV show but some scenes from the movies were used in the game which is why it doesn’t follow the plot of the movie exactly
I knew that one day I would finally come across someone who liked a bugs life game 😂
@@n64glennplant It's was far from the best. I have a stronger tolerance for things then others.

that is a great commercial isn't it
i prefer Tomorrow Never Dies and the World is Not Enough over Golden Eye. in fact i have never even played Golden eye.
Goldeneye is way better than twine 😳 it’s decent but definitely not on the same level as goldeneye
They each have their own strengths and weaknesses but overall I can still enjoy either to this day
TWINE was great when it focused on the shooting and stealth elements.
Tomorrow never dies for PS1 was awful too
I remember playing that for some reason and yeah I thought it was crap
Bugs Life was slept on
-these berries won’t work
No Mission Impossible?
Tv show licensed that used some movie scenes as missions 👍
