WOW Guys, look Kratos now is redeemed of his actions of his past deeds and now is a cool character!!!!!!. Some people never change, no matter how hard the try. That's why Kratos, will and always be the old Gow. Tragic hero at its finest!!
Im not exaggerating by saying this touched my soul like no piece of media ever did Kratos is a character i grow up loving seeing him achieve this growth reflects a part of us to see him overcome his mistakes with that much struggle yet succeed ,it’s really one of the most inspiring stories I’ve ever seen that gives hope for everyone to change and be a better version of themselves
I feel exactly the same way. its hard to put on words how we feel when remembering his entire journey, his growth, self-forgiveness, and this "finale", a god-worth one. My favorite character ever!
Guys its a video game. Gow of war was meant to be a ruthless killing machine. While i don't mind the character growth he received, its just not the same game for me sadly. It saddens me seeing People, loving games just for the story but not for the awesome gameplay old kratos was know for. Gow will always be tragic hero to me. That's a better outcome for him, in my opinion
For the only time in the Norse series. You can hear the Greek influence on the sound track. Fitting that the only time we hear it is when Kratos confronts his past.
Him seeing himself makes me wonder how many people wonders what to say to their younger selves? How we were all young, angry, relentless sometimes, broken. As we grow old we tend to be better than before, but what would we say to ourselves, if we confronted our past? Would most of us forgive? Forget? Placed ourselves in service? These days it gets harder to be a good person. Seeing kratos the most hateful protagonist finally forgiving himself makes me think that there is hope, despite what the past had been. Truly a whole nother change of character Kratos is.
There is nothing to say. You are at this very moment the result of all of actions and decisions made in your life, whether by fate or choice. Your past doesn't care about whatever reasoning you use to justify who you were. Only your future will care about the decisions and circumstances you find yourself in.
What can I say to you? I remember how it felt to take that throne. All that it meant. And all that it did not. A god of war… a god if pain. Of suffering. Of destruction. The Norns said I chase a redemption that I know I can never deserve. What does that make me? A god of FOOLS. A god of……. Hope. “When all else is lost…” YOU lost everything. And everyone. And you became… there is no forgiving you! You CHOSE… I chose… What now? Should I, this same man, should I sit? Take? Proclaim? Lead? Place myself in service? In service… Should I… lose everything and everyone… Will there still be enough left inside so that I do not become you? I do not know. But I have hope. You are CRUEL, and ARROGANT, and SELFISH. But…you are more than that. You have always been more than what others saw. You are MORE than that.
I know they can do another GOW game because of the money this saga makes, but from a narrative perspective, as I like to see all stories, this is the perfect ending for the character. No need to continue at all. I like when things have an ending, and I like it even more when it's so well-rounded, written and perfect as this one.
Like all good stories, the GOW saga ended beautifully with the hero becoming someone else, someone better than he started. But the other aspect of these good stories is that they end with a sense of "and the hero went on to have many adventures...". The following games could just be some of those other adventures. I just hope the writers don't forget the evolution of the characters. Kratos is now the god of hope. He's still badass, but he is different. The new games should keep that in mind and I think they could be good.
With how everything's been set up, it seems more likely that future games will follow Atreus as the new protagonist while Kratos gets to kick back and have the ending he earned, while still being active enough for the occasional father-son ass-kicking cameo.
The first time,he became a God only because the Gods didn't wanted to fulfill his part as that would've mean losing their best slave. He was still a slave but with luxuries. He got drowned on anger and hate that put his own people at his service. He lost everything when his masters saw that he was no longer a pawn easy to manipulate. His first throne was a luxury one because he was above the humans like all the other Olympians. The second time,he's just a man that willing puts above others to guide them, without think they're below him. He's at the service of mortals without asking something in return, either a material thing or the eternal service of others like if they were slave, and that's because Kratos's second throne is a humble one made out of rubble rather that a luxurious one.
I can write essays about how truly magnificent the ending scene is to the Valhalla dlc. Kratos is a man who has lost so so much. His brother, his wife, his daughter, his people, his homeland. All out of a rage he didn't truly understand. He did what he saw as right at the time. Blinded by emotions he couldn't fully control anymore. Now, he gets to reconcile with his old ways and himself in a throne with no purpose. I cried so hard at this scene for multiple reasons. But I lost it when the young Kratos disappeared and he sat in the throne giving it a real purpose. A clear message that Kratos has finally accepted his past and let go of the hate and regret he had of himself. Young Kratos didn't talk because he didn't have to. Kratos knew everything he would say. Once he sat in the throne. The old regretful God of War died and the new acceptance in the God of hope was born. I like how in the lighting of the scene, it looks almost like the ashes are gone and his real skin(his real self) was revealed again further signifying my point. It is such a perfect scene of resolution and finality for Kratos.
It all comes full circle. This is the culmination of eighteen years of love, Compassion, grief and Hope. I grew up with this series and to finally see kratos use the hope those along his path have given him, to use it once more to defeat the strongest god he's faced. Himself.. None of us know what tommorow will bring, but whatever our past is or was, doesnt matter but only the choices you make forwards now do. Kratos takes the seat once more, embracing it and using it to better the realms instead of himself. Mimir at his side, i feel aswell atoning for his time at odins side, choosing to help another god but this time, for the better. For the wiser. Do not be sorry, be better. Everyday.
