It was just understand that certain cops, people in the D.A.'s office, and even judges were only interested in "cleaning up the streets", but not actually arresting the real criminals. Even I've been targeted with the "You look like the suspect" line, but nobody (at least at the time) wanted to be a "Sandra Bland" story. I do have a childhood mentor who is in local public office now and I have been in contact.
