Catherine, Princess of Wales, GCVO (born Catherine Elizabeth Middleton) is a member of the British royal family. She is married to William, Prince of Wales, heir apparent to the British throne. Kensington Palace announced on 17 January 2024 that Catherine had undergone a planned abdominal surgery for an undisclosed medical condition that was not cancer, after she had been admitted to The London Clinic the previous day. She postponed all of her public engagements and duties until after Easter that year. The subsequent speculation about Catherine's absence and health prompted various conspiracy theories and attracted extensive media attention.
Catherine announced on 22 March, through a video message filmed by BBC Studios, that post-operative tests had found cancer, and the palace said she had been undergoing chemotherapy since late February.

I found this really useful. There's a lot of speculation about Catherine's situation. People have been taking videos of her and doctoring them to make it look like it's not her for drama/ publicity. Knowing the original source, where to go for the video, and what to look for is helpful. ❤
Guess what-she wasn’t missing. She told us in January that she was having major abdominal surgery and that her medical team advised her that she’d be in hospital 10-14 days-and she was in for 13. She would then be able to go home to Adelaide Cottage and finish her recuperation there surrounded by her family. We were told she would not be returning to public duties until AFTER Easter.
This whole time they told us exactly what was going on. It was only internet bullies who caused all this.
If you mean "we" as in the public then yes but then she went out of the public eye again and will be for a while. It isn't internet when everyone she knows is being hounded in person.

Dear gentleman, I will tell you what is off.
As a cancer survivor, I know what it is like to say out loud, "I have cancer."
Our dear Princess Catherine would like to be curled up with her family's arms around her at home resting and safe. When you have cancer, no place is safe. She wants to run screaming into the street.
So nothing she does will look natural or true because she is putting on an act to protect everyone except herself.
This is called dignity.
Sadly, we don't see many examples of this anymore.
Beautiful explanation-This is how a friend of mine described it too. Unfortunately she wasn’t lucky enough to survive, but I remember her telling us and how hard it was for her to say it out loud. I also saw that Catherine was just doing her best to keep it together, I don’t think this is anything other than authentic. P.S I’m glad you’re on the other side ❤

Gosh, this made me break down! I wish good health and long lives to you, the Princess and everyone else on this planet. I am Catherine's age, have never met her and never will, but this sad news has hit me like it was a member of my own family. I hope she will make a full recovery.

I think we see a woman recently diagnosed with cancer, who has 3 children and a country invested in her, trying hard to keep it together. She is holding herself stiffly to stay in control and get through this video. All is totally understandable.

I see a scared young woman trying to balance her fear with the need to make the public feel better. She has 3 young children that she wants to see grow up. Chemo is no walk in the park. I see a scared woman who does not feel well. My heart goes out to her.

Because they're royalty and in the public eye? And, we PAY for them. That said, blame the media for their constant made up stories and speculation. However, if the RF had been upfront and honest from the start there would have been no speculation. Most people would have been sympathetic to Kate and very supportive as they are showing now.

@@reyyanbal2075 I'm a great-grandmother. Kids know when something's wrong. George and Charlotte are old enough to realise something is very wrong with their mother. Louis is younger so perhaps not so much. Ordinary families not in the public eye can keep such things hidden for longer but the RF can't as the media will speculate and print story after story whether it's true or not. It's better to explain things to kids in a way they'll understand rather than them find out through some story in the media and get a terrible shock.

As a recent cancer survivor myself, I suspect part of her “locked up” body language may be due to ongoing pain from the surgery. I can’t imagine having to go in front of a camera wearing close-fitting clothes while I was recuperating. I’m sure all she really wants to do is put on a giant nightgown and crawl back in bed. God bless her for managing to have some grace in spite of everything.

Not missing. Sick. Recovering from surgery. Cancer. I get the royal family are public figures but for the love of god, why do we need to go straight to missing because they aren’t visible? Get over it. The woman married into royalty but she’s human, she’s got the right to have health issues with as much dignity as she can and to ask for privacy. The fact alone that the Princess was essentially bullied & forced into making this statement before she was ready is appalling and shameful. She’s a young woman who’s handled herself with dignity & grace, served the Crown & Commonwealth with rarely a misstep over the past 20 yrs and this is how she’s thanked? Unreal.

Chase, what you felt was way off was a very dignified, genuine, open and friendly woman struggling to maintain her composure in public. I'm pretty sure she had the same cancer I had at her exact age, with a teenage daughter who struggled with my diagnosis. When you are young, healthy and have children, it is like a punch in the stomach to begin with, then to have all of the other garbage thrown at you at the same time is traumatic. Not only do you have to face your mortality, but you have to find a way to help your children face it too,. The hand movements, at certain points, led me to believe she was struggling to control emotions she felt building up inside her, pausing to regain control. I admire this woman's composure, strength and dignity. Much love and respect to Catherine, Princess of Wales.

Back in January (not that long ago) Kensington Palace announced Catherine would be having major abdominal surgery, would be in hospital for 14 days (ended up being 13) and then recovering until after Easter. I truly do not understand why people can’t accept this. Im truly perplexed. The world has gone mad. She probably felt obligated to post the Mothers Day photo because of trolling on social media. Obviously that backfired spectacularly. Please can we leave this poor woman alone now. She’s a human being above all else and she’s suffering. I wish her well.

Chase, I think maybe it seems odd because you don't fully comprehend how our culture moulds our reactions. It's a very British thing to underplay our emotions in public. She's also a mummy. She has no choice but to be brave..but she's clearly devastated and scared yet knows it's her duty to keep it together. She's an admirable woman. I really feel her pain.
She knows the grey suits have their eyes on her. When people talk about the “firm”, it’s no joke. The RF & its machine, is vicious. Princess Catherine may already be ruing the day that she switched universities just to be near William. I bet her parents have wished she’d stayed where she had planned to go in the first place. A person born outside of this “royal crap” is in sinking sand.
My mother had ovarian cancer. The surgeons thought they got it all but she went through preventative chemotherapy treatment after. This was 25 years ago and the prognosis at that time was much less optimistic. My mother lived another 20 years and passed away in her 90’s. I have great hope for Catherine Princess of Wales

I just lost my 29 year old son to cancer. Nothing is normal with a cancer diagnosis. Your whole world falls apart. I am so sad for the scrutiny she is receiving. Praying for her and her family.
I won't give her any doubts, but many Brits die unnecessarily because of the state of our NHS. The scrutiny won't hurt her as she won't be on YT reading the comments. Also, she will get the best treatment of anyone ever in this country! What more do you want? I feel worried about normal people and wouldn't let anyone say anything bad about them.

I couldn't care less about the royal part. But I was a young mom who was told I had about 6 months to live, with advanced killer T-cell lymphoma, when we had our 1 year old son and 2 year old daughter. I was brave and never let the stress make me cry. About a month in though, I sat rocking my baby and singing to him. Our little daughter came in and started dancing to my horrible singing voice. It hit me all at once, that odds were, I wouldn't make it to see her turn 3. I absolutely lost it. I prayed for the first time in years, begged for my life. Fast forward 8 years and I've been cancer free. We've welcomed more healthy children since. All that said, I deeply feel for her pain. The thought of not being there for your kids is absolutely devastating! You loose all your kids and you don't know if they will be okay. God heal her. But it really was a gift, I truly do see life differently since. I enjoy my life more and know exactly what is important.

I am so happy that you able to beat the horrible disease. I don't have cancer, but have gone through it with my mom and dad. It's take a toll for both the patient and family members - especially young children who suddenly can't understand why grandma and grandpa (or mom or dad) who usually play with them suddenly not able to do so. I don't wish it for anyone, but sometimes I wonder if those horrible people would learn to grow up and have some empathy if they ever gone through the same experience. Maybe not...as Sheryl Crow did not seem to be bothered by the fact she made fun of Catherine - and yet, she herself was a cancer survivor. It's really sad the world we living now
Bottom line is, I pray Princess Catherine makes a full recovery!
I see a young woman who is scared and uncomfortable. She was forced by the media and public hounding to discuss a very private and traumatic medical matter in public. For some of us its very hard to tell even our closest family members that we have cancer, its a strangly private thing. I know not everyone reacts this way but when i was diagnosed i didnt tell anyone at all for almost a week. I needed to sit with it and absorb the tremendous blow it is to get that news. Its like your world suddenly narrows down to that diagnosis, what is the next step and the concern for your loved ones and there is no room for the outside world. I feel sorry for her that she couldn't just withdraw and focus on her fight and her family
Chase is judging on what wouls be a normal reaction by an American woman. Princess Catherine's behaviour is an example of the British stiff upper lip in the face of adversity. She's not about to allow herself to put on an emotional show. This was an extreemly difficult thing for her to do. She's very brave.

Totally agreed. American have gotten so full of themselves they think their behavior or morality. There are some great values that have grown from the USA, but I have lived abroad and learned about many different cultures and the level of disrespect Americans show to other cultures is embarrassing. I love Chase and am usually impressed by his analysis but this time he totally missed the mark. There was almost distain in his voice like he's disappointed she wasn't blubbering on screen. She comes from a very refined and stoic culture and has always been under a lot of pressure to "suck it up" and not act like some bleeding heart liberal that always wants to play the victim and garner sympathy from everyone. I think it was important for Catherine to portray strength and maintain composure not just for the public but for her children who will undoubtedly see or hear about this video.
Dear BP: The Princess of Wales has not been missing. KP released a statement at the very beginning stating she was having major abdominal surgery and would return to Royal Duties after Easter. She has not, repeat not, been missing. She is a human being, mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, colleague, friend who simply needs time to heal and privacy.

Chemo wears a body a person’s body down. My God….people need to leave this woman alone. She is scared.
My mum had to talk to the police about a horrific incident. During the entire interview she just stone cold delivered what happened to the officer. He left the room to turn off the recording of her statement and that's when she broke down. Seems to me Princess Catherine was keeping it together to deliver the news but I will bet she went home and cried afterwards. Maybe thats shy her face was frozen? She was trying so hard to just deliver the message to the Commonwealth of over 2 billion people. Thats a huge job.
Absolutely. People don't understand that situation unless they have been through something similar themselves. How is someone even supposed to look like when delivering such a message? Happy, joyful, relaxed? People don't know what they are talking about. Hoping your mom is ok now. And hoping Catherine is going to recover soon.
I think why it seems "off" is because 1) she isn't smiling. She's normally quick with a smile. 2) her eyes look tired & her face looks strained. Not the usual spark & softness. She's been placed under a microscope by the world when she needs to focus on her health and her children. As a mother, your first thought is protecting your children. I'm sure her mind is a whirlwind of thoughts and concerns right now.
Plus we usually see her with a tan and a lot more makeup! And it looks like she has lost weight.
She seemed "off" Chase because she was forced into making a statement that she wasn't ready to make. Because of all of the horrible things that have been being said about her lately, she needed to put a stop to it, and I don't think she was ready to make this public. The Palace said she would be back around Easter, and people couldn't let that go, have been selfish, and caused so much turmoil that Princess Catherine was forced to do this just to give her and her family some peace.

I am 2 months out of treatment & feel desperately sorry for Catherine. Unless you’ve been through it yourself or with loved ones it’s hard to understand the toll it takes on you, and I hope no one ever has too. Even the tests you have before your diagnosis or staging are invasive, hard and exhausting. The treatment does change you, and can make you look different let alone the mental battle you go through. You then live with the possibility of reoccurrence and having to go through it again. I wish her a full and speedy recovery and to anyone else facing this horrible disease.
I believe that Catherine was emulating the quiet strength and dignity of Queen Elizabeth II in addressing the public about her health. Now we all need to leave the Princess of Wales and her family alone so, she can deal with her treatment and regain he health in peace.
Or pass in peace - please let's not force Kate to make her declining health a public matter as her mother-in-law was forced to do!
NOTHING was “off” about Princess Catherine’s statement, other than having to share info she wanted to keep private, and is struggling to come to terms with. A cancer diagnosis to a mother of young children must be incredibly difficult. She’s trying to reassure the public, her family and herself. What a burden.

Yeah, Chase’s “contribution “ to this one was simply to continue to sow seeds of doubt. That’s literally all he did, with no evidence whatsoever. WTF?
She was not missing, she was recovering. Kensington Palace made it clear she would be off till Easter following major surgery. Now this bombshell has hit them, she’s thinking first of her children and others. Catherine Princess of Wales is a very brave, dignified lady.
She's putting on a brave face but doesn't truly feel as hopeful and optimistic as she'd like. She's scared and sad/ feeling low and vulnerable and depressed as we all would.
I think Catherine is tired, scared and feeling ill. She's still recovering from major surgery, she's had to tell her young children that she has been unwell and is still healing. Nothing more, nothing less. My husband recovered from terminal cancer with a bone marrow transplant...cancer in any form is a big deal, a long recovery and chemo is nothing more than poison in a sense. Every day is different than the next or previous day...everything depends on your bloodwork. It's emotional as much as physical.

When I received my cancer diagnosis I was asked by my employer to speak to colleagues and explain what was happening. I didn’t want to do it, but even my medical team said it was important that I accept it. There was absolutely nothing off in this video. She is scared, no matter how early they caught it, she is scared of chemo side effects, of it not all being excised, of the impact this video will have on the baying hounds who are chasing her. She is scared if the impact this will have in her children, scared of. How people will view her.
She is trying not to show emotion but inside her inner reaction is fear and concern.

She is a woman scared for herself, scared for her young family, scared for her future. No amount of money or high status can cushion her reality. The panel is made up of American men who admit they know little of the English royal family yet make assessments on body language without knowing the person they are viewing. This clip has taught me a lot about body language experts: emotionless experts who do not factor in the personality of the person they are scrutinising. Having to have the inital surgery must have been traumatic enough but then to be told that cancerous cells were found post surgery....im sorry but anyone being told they have cancer gets a shock to the system. This woman then has to tell her family, her three young children. She is trying to be brave ,to be strong in this while in the outside world they are making crap up about her well-being. The first thing I noticed was how incredibly thin she is. If you look at her legs, she appears to be skin and bone. And she's clearly frail and low energy. If she'd had a hysterectomy, she's now also experiencing shock post menopause...no sliding into it like would normally be the case. That's really not funny. On top of the cancer. And she's a mother of three young ones, that's a heavy weight on the mind. Not to mention all the vicious stuff thrown at her for weeks now...she must have worried with every word whether she's doing enough. Catherine is not in a good state at all, despite the world class care. My heart & prayers go out to her.
I was thrown into menopause at 41 after major surgery, coming home to 3 young children. I was in ill health for years. Looking back on it 40 years later, I don't know how I and the whole family made it through as well as we did. I believe it was love.

As a surgical nurse, I told people to stop being conspiracist. Major abdominal surgery is a big deal. Uneventful healing is at 80% in the first 3-4 months and a year 100% , adding cancer to the mix anything is possible. I pray for her full recovery ❤🙏
I don't watch TV, but an Internet channel I watch now and then did updates. Perhaps I just didn't hear it but if a medical professional could have come forward to say these things to the public people would have understood the princess' condition better and fears for her safety would have been put to rest?

I wish they had said what type of abdominal surgery she was originally having. Not because I want her privacy invaded, but just so knowledge is spread about ways cancer can hide and be detected.
Catherine's seeming "lack of emotion" speaks volumes to me as a retired senior nurse practitioner of over 30 years, which included palliative care (and I would appreciate learning other health professionals' thoughts on this).
The fact is that the cancer was found during Catherine's recovery period from major abdominal surgery and she then had to wait until she had recovered sufficiently from that major surgery, in order to even begin treatment for the cancer. Her appearance was that of a woman who is obviously ill and physically weak, including her skin pallor, voice and demeanour, which came across as typically weak and 'flat' and indicative of just how ill she has been and still is!
As for people speculating about how "different" she looks, we don't know what type of treatment or medication she is receiving, and what their effects are. I've cared for so many people going through treatment, who looked different from day to day, week to week, depending on the effects of medication and how they were feeling.
When I watched the video the first time, I felt very upset for Catherine that all the bullying and nastiness aimed at her had compelled her to even make the video, when her personal, medical information is, and should remain, private. However, even then, she didn't get caught up in the beloved, "I'm such a victim" mentality so prevalent today. No, "They did this to ME and it's all THEIR fault" "Woe is me", etc, etc, etc.... she just focused on why she needed to remain out of the public eye for the present.
I feel very, very sorry for Catherine. It doesn't matter how much money someone has, going through a period of serious ill health and having to put up with all the conjecture and lies, and people doubting whether she's really ill or not, must be bloody awful for her! She hasn't got involved in other people's lives, she doesn't whinge and whine about anything. I wonder how the moronic scumbags who revel in her illness would feel if the same were said about them or a member of their family. Catherine should, like the rest of us, be allowed privacy and time to heal. She is a lady who is loved and supported very much by her parents and siblings, her in-laws and friends of many years standing. Having gone through major surgeries and as a result having disabilities and been on various medications I agree with all you have said as a professional nurse who has seen these things up close. The mental health aspect as a result of her tests, diagnosis, post-op results and now ongoing treatment and not to mention the weight of all this on Prince William his past of losing a mother and both of them managing their children's well being through all of this it is deplorable that HRH has been forced to do this video to appease the masses and now it's still dissected and not enough!

As someone who was diagnosed with cancer at 33 and also had a very young child, I don't know that there is a "normal" way to act. You almost have to create multiple personalities for yourself just to get by. I can't imagine having the added pressure she has. Get well, Kate!

I have worked as a nurse in a hospice for 13 years. I felt she looked really pale the type of cancer has not been revealed it could be really serious if it was ovarian or very treatable if colon. I also felt that how she was clasping her hands she is obviously anxious. It could be the diagnosis, the impending cycles of chemotherapy she is facing , telling her children? I truly hope everything goes as planned and for the best outcome..🙏🙏🙏

I had chemotherapy and lost my hair about 6 treatments in. Everyone is different. I had ovarian cancer and endometrial cancer. 18 weeks of chemo. Lost 57 pounds in 3 months. Prayers for her and her family. Cancer is horrible and I can only imagine how scared she feels.

What’s off about this video is that we are seeing Catherine, for the first time, very vulnerable and trying to come to terms with a devastating diagnosis. She hasn’t tried to hide her pain and fear behind a ton of makeup. She is undergoing a course of chemotherapy which leaves most people feeling and looking dreadful. So very proud of our future Queen.

As a cancer survivor, it is a SHOCK to hear the words "you have cancer" and process them. Even with a very hopeful prognosis, there is uncertainty and waiting to see what will happen. I'm surprised that no one on the panel mentioned the possibility of all the physical and mental effects of chemotherapy as well - she looks pale and probably has no energy. During that process, it is difficult just to do the bare minimum each day, so having to present yourself to the world in the middle of that would be very taxing. She could be feeling nauseated from the chemo. She could be concerned about losing her hair. There is a lot that can be happening both physically and emotionally for her.
As others have mentioned, understandably she looks physically and emotionally drained. She is pale, exhausted and weak. Most people's eyes and eyebrows do not match or move identically, and any differences are exacerbated when they are tired, lacking sleep, or stressed. Something is "off" because this poor woman has received devastating news, is battling for her life. I'm amazed she had the strength to make this video and get through it as well as she did.
For a time after my husband died, I kept things close-not much emotion. My life had been tragically changed. I had to maintain some semblance of control to balance what happened. I had two little ones at the time. I was afraid to let my guard down in public places, even with friends. Here she is, filming something that will be broadcast worldwide. She was courageous.
What is “off” is that Catherine is a private woman who was forced to expose her private medical diagnosis and her private pain to satisfy the unhealthy desire for gossip by the ghouls in the media and online. Chemo and other treatments are very hard on one’s body and nearly completely drain one’s energy. Been there and in remission, but lost my husband of 46 years to this evil 3 years ago! Treatments are hard on the person and the family going through it with you. Praying for Kate!

I am a nurse and watched patients go through the entire gambet of emotion, presentation, reaction. She is scared, but trying to be reassuring, and has a great deal of worry she is having for her children and family. Along with the negativity and bullying that is happening. My heart breaks for her and her family, they are dealing as best she can. She is not fully sure of what is to come.

She looks frail, uncertain/fearful, and a tad ticked off. She's been harassed terribly by the media. I'd be ticked too. I think she did this to shut ppl up. When you're young, you have small children at home, and you find out you have/had cancer, it scares the crap out of you. Your thoughts go to bad places like: If I die, who will be a mother to my children? Now, how often will I have to go to be checked? What if it comes back and they miss it. As a woman and a mom, I can say that I know what's gone through her head because I had cancer at age 30, and my 3 children were very young. Fortunately, for me, it was caught early and surgery took care of it without any extra treatments. It's too bad that she had to make this video. Her health should be private.
Agreed. Worked with cancer patients and could tell even before the reveal by just looking at her pallor. It is emotionally draining to any mother to think that she might not be able to raise her children, coupled to her husband loosing his mother at a young age. I do not even care about the scenery and semantics surrounding it. All I see is a mother and wife with a huge responsibility on her shoulders, and I applaud her for sharing it with the people. It takes a lot of mental energy just to work through it by yourself and and having to get your family to deal with the trauma as well. The last thing most cancer patients have the energy to deal with, is fending off all the well meaning people wanting to "help". That is why a lot of cancer patients keep their diagnosis private. This was probably the most honest, open interview any Royal has ever done.
This poor woman,she really now should be left to recover in peace and privacy .
Kate is putting on a very brave face, but she obviously has lost a lot of weight and looks very ill. I feel for her struggle to survive. Although she feels like crying, rather contains her emotions with an iron will. This is easily recognized by anyone, who has been through any such horrible experience, akin to those protracted medical treatments required to treat cancer! How can anyone "play around" and think that this presentation is not real?! People's attitudes can be so unkind. They are a testament to the calloused and selfish nature of so many in our day! Dear Kate, I apologize for any cruel comments that might reach you and your family.
The only thing that feels "way off" to me is that this poor woman has CANCER and has been bullied into making a public statement about things and should have been private - and at a time when she should not be under pressure but given privacy to heal. People should be ashamed for analyzing every. little. quirk. of her face and body.
I hope she recovers and lives a long and healthy life, but if she dies from this dreadful disease, there are a lot of folks who hounded her to her grave will have blood on their hands.

If you LOVED her, you'd give her the one thing that she has asked for - Privacy. She is not a toy for her fans to project their fantasies onto. She is a human being who shouldn't be HOUNDED when she is battling a deadly disease.
The people who actually LOVE the Princess of Wales are:
1. Her husband.
2. Her children
3. Her parents
4. Her siblings
5. Her in-laws
6. Her CLOSE friends.
Her fans do not love her. They admire her and wish they knew her. They do not lover her.
What mother of young children who had to put this statement out to the world wouldn’t try to keep their emotions in check. Having the words come out your mouth on camera is heart wrenching. As a mom all your thoughts would be on your kids. We are mothers first.
I'm surprised Chase thought there wasn't a lot of emotion in the video. I thought the complete opposite. She visibly gulped when trying to reassure us( and herself I think) that she will be okay. She's a Brit and we're not known for big displays of emotions. For a Brit, and a royal one at that, it was very emotional imho. I found her to be genuine and authentic and I wish her well.

Could the discrepancy be that Kate’s prognosis is worse than stated, but she is keeping this private for the sake of her family? There is a hopelessness about Kate, which fatigue from surgery and chemo does not explain.
I agree. I think she is sicker than we're being led to believe, but putting a brave face on it. Hopefully, all will be well in the end.

Why in the world are people so hung up on this? The Lady doesn't have any obligation to share her medical condition with anyone. As someone who has cancer, I know it isn't something one usually wants to discuss with strangers. I get the sugars all coming out and getting into a lather but the larger media getting into the mix is pretty nutty. Let her be.

You guys didn’t even both to get a baseline on her from before Christmas and her surgery early this year. Her hand movements are totally normal for her, although not subdued.
It is insulting to her that you say she was “missing.” She wasn’t missing. She was recovering in private exactly as they said she would be.
If I had major surgery I'd be sitting a bit stiff and uncomfortable. Has none of these folk ever been ill, had surgery? Or maybe like barn animals, women just don't feel pain like men do.
