hmm, very interesting to make the hole perfect by using the pot the plant comes with! haven't thought of that yet :) awesome, cheers man! ill try this out today :) i always did feel like bedding the soil down along the roots could add to shock, nice idea
I have heavy clay soil so I adjusted and dug x2 as deep and x2 as wide and filled in with black dirt. I also had to take some of the peat from the roots because we have such harsh winters and I’ve noticed that the peat dries out and becomes almost rock hard throughout the winter.

Good question ……. I am confident that they would be fine if you put them in the ground as per the video instructions. But if you definitely want them to remain in the pots while put in to the ground I am confident that they will be fine, as long as there is good drainage in the bottom of the pot. But then there was something that looked like a green seed in the cup detached from the plant. Have I just killed the plant ?? Or is it fine at this point without it?? Please help this was my daughters cucumber she was growing from her prek, I’m hoping it can be saved 🙏🏽😬
When the seed germinates, the plant gets its nutrients from the seed up until the point when it has developed leaves and is growing above the ground. It is probable that what you have described is a piece of the seed that was left behind - but don't worry, it wont be being used by the plant. I am sure your plant will be fine.
A good suggestion for many plants. But please do keep in mind that some plants rely on the surface roots from which they absorb most of their nutrients.
I agree I bought 6 5lb roses and even if roots didn't loop around would you still push out the roots? I didn't mess with the roots but I hope I didn't do anything wrong by not pulling out roots.
Hi Barry. Assuming your roses were already potted and not bare-rooted, then I would recommend leaving the roots alone ...... unless they are already heavily root bound. If you have planted them without messing with the roots, and all other conditions are suitable for your roses, then I am confident that you will be enjoying new blooms soon :) Happy gardening :)
I must ask, I've seen a few videos contradicting each other regarding disturbing roots. Someone said to rough up the soil once removing from pot so it can grow outwards. Any reason or specific plants that some people say that? I'm a rookie gardener
Great question. I always follow the follow guidelines - If the roots have become compacted and are starting to circle around the pot, I tease them out a bit - this helps to encourage the roots to move out in to the surrounding soil. If the roots are not compacted and are only just starting to show signs of expanding around the extremities of the container, then I leave them alone. Generally, the more compacted and bound up in the pot the roots are, the more I disturb them; and vice versa. I hope this helps 😁. Happy gardening 🌿🌱

I accidentally pruned out the roots of my bleeding hearts that were in that shape/size. We moved them to another pot. How long can it take for them to show death or transplant shock starting?😭😭😭
I am sorry to hear this 😔. If the plant is going to show stress as a result of the transplant, it should happen within a few days, and sometimes even hours. I hope they have survived and then thrive for you. Happy gardening 🌱🌿
Unfortunately I have to say that it doesn't sound good. Have all the leaves fallen off? Is there any sign of new growth? how long ago did you transplant it? What climate do you live in; is it winter there and how cold?
Sorry for the slow reply. Palm root systems are much less vigorous and invasive than most other plants. Therefore, the size of the hole doesn't need to be much larger than the existing pot. Work on 30 inches in diameter and just a few inches deeper than the height of the existing pot. Hope this helps :)
If you don’t have access to seaweed emulsion, I would recommend a small amount of well aged chicken manure. Be careful to not add too much though - no more than half a handful sprinkled around the top. Hope that helps 😄

Hello. I am looking to transplant a young Canistel or eggfruit tree from the pot onto the ground. However I am suspecting that the soil around the tree inside the pot is not compact enough to hold once I slip the tree and roots out of the pot. That soil seems kind of loose and it appears that will spill all around and I am afraid I will lose that soil and the roots will lay bare. Is there an alternative to successfully transplant a tree like this if the surrounding soil around the roots does not hold up compactly enough?
Sorry about my slow reply. I wouldn't worry. too much. Give it a good water in the pot before you remove it. The watering will help to hold the soil together, but even if a bit is lost, I m confident it will be ok. Hope that helps.
It is always best to plant when it is coolest - it helps reduce shock to the plant. I would recommend late in the afternoon and follow planting with a good water.
