That was Australian’s singing Liverpool’s club song for them because they weren’t home in England. We are saying we are with them too and welcome. They broke the 95,000 people record at the MCG a few years ago. This is where every AFL grand final is held, it is magic there. Thank you.
you'll never walk alone is not just the clubs anthem, it was also used after 97 liverpool fans died at the hillsborough disaster in 1989, they also remember those people with that song
Such a tragedy.
I hope they also remember the 39 Juventus supporters with that song that died in the Haysel stadium tragedy when Liverpool supporters charged the Juventus area. English clubs were subsequently banned from European competition for 5 years.
95,000+ turn out for a friendly game. Nothing hinging on it except bragging rights. This was played in a city that has a different brand of football that usually draw between 95 & 100 thousand to their grand final. They turned out to see Liverpool FC......one of the worlds great football clubs.
As a resident of Sheffield, I'll never forget the Monday after my aunt collecting me from school to take flowers to the stadium, a tragedy our city won't ever forget, we are forever regretful of the treatment of the victims and families, know the steel city has always stood with you
@@monte5293 Do you remember the Juventas supporter on the pitch firing a pistol into the Liverpool end (it was live on the telly, probably deleted now)? Any wonder why they went?
I do not condone the behaviour of either side's fans. However carrying a firearm to a football match is just "nasty". Juventas were never touched.
I watched it live. I am not a Liverpool fan. They were stitched up, as some history has legally proven (Hillsborough, a match that I was supposed to be at, but we both had really bad hangovers, so could not drive!). I stand by them as a sports fan.
It's not our version of football, it is football we invented it we named it and we named it football, long before America existed
Soccer is a word that originated in England. Cope
@@t-bone3599 what's your point, it's still football regardless
Football actually dates back to the Ancient Greeks.
Long before 'Britain' existed.
The UK may have formalised it as a professional sport, but we didn't "invent" it.
@@basilfawlty8244 actually our game dates back many hundreds of years there are records of fields being rented by villages to play against one another in the 9th century. So give it a rest they may have had something similar but it wasn't football, I bet you're a pink hat wearing liberal who goes one just stop oil marches and thinks the English flag is racist aren't you.
That's right❤ I get so angry when I hear some american call this "soccer"!!! This is the real football❤ Greetings from Finland from an 67 year old lady❤
All those English and Australian supporters singing beautiful
When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of a storm
There's a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
The best football anthem on Earth. Liverpool fans singing YNWA ♥️
Until you see the Hibs cup final sunshine on leith celebrations
It is spine-tinglingly awesome, agreed. We went to a Rugby club game (not attempting to spell it) in Wales where they won against club Irish. At the local, after the game, the Welsh sang Bye Bye Irish to the tune of Bye Bye Blackbird. That was absolutely magical, not numbers and not a song I even like, but the quality of the voices in harmony was better than anything I’ve ever heard, live or recorded.
Not just 95000 fans in a stadium. 95000 fans supporting them in a stadium on the other side of the world.
Especially because it's on the other side of the world. Because we have such a relatively poor standard of play here here that people don't go to the games (average crowd 7,500 in 2023), so it's huge to be able to see a quality game IRL.
And to play a friendly
@@1983BoyBenny It wouldn’t matter what type of game it was, the draw was to see a game with quality players in real life. Our best players who go to Britain usually only end up as second string players.
You will also have to remember this holds even more dear to the Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard as when he was just 9 years old he lost his 10 year old cousin at the Hillsborough Disaster in 1989. That day 96 Liverpool fans lost their lives and another years later from injuries he suffered also passed and it took alot of years for the families of the victims to get justice for the 97 lives lost. The Sun newspaper is still public enemy number 1 in Liverpool because of how they publicized the news after it. #YNWA will always be a part of Liverpool club and its fans and we will always honor the lives lost with #J497
Bob Paisley who's face is on the banner lost 2 daughters in that same disaster as Steven's cousin.
I actually didn't know that, im English but not a Liverpool fan, but YNWA is so iconic with Liverpool im sure that song is the 12 man, but I do enjoy the epic European nights at Anfield
Paisley is an old manager, he never lost family. Trevor and Jenni Hicks lost 2 daughters, Sarah 19 and Victoria 15, heart breaking.
Bob Paisley didn't lose anyone @ Hillsborough!!
Correct on Stevie, wrong on Bob (greatest manager never to be knighted).
This was a pre season friendly as well. Nothing was on the line. Just amazing fans doing their thing
Even non supporters over a certain age this gives us goosebumps because we remember
Love Aston Villa, but WOW, it's good to see Liverpool and the Aussies... fantastic. TY so much.
In Australia back in the 70’s & 80’s. My parents & us kids always went to an English based Social Club, and at the end of every Sunday night and special occasions, we always sang this song!! Today it brings tears to my eyes for the wonderful memories and the unity we all had❤️
The crowd was closer to 100,000. The AFL Grand Final is played there annually & draws a similar sized crowd.
95000 aussies plus all the thousands of Liverpool fans who flew over for the game..❤
"You'll Never Walk Alone" is a 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein show tune from "Carousel". It was first performed by Frank Sinatra and has been covered by several other singers. Most notably, it was covered by the Liverpool rock group Gerry and the Pacemakers (friends and collaborators with the Beatles in the early days) in 1963.
Football clubs around the world tend not to play national anthems that’s very much an American thing. This is their club song, their club anthem. National anthems are reserved for when the country/nation is playing. Most Europeans cringe when the star spangled banner is played before sporting events
Most people cringe at the Australian national anthem 😅😂😂
Im a Leeds fan but you;ll never walk alone is best heard at Liverpools home ground Anfield chills
I've heard it many times at Anfield, but I was at this game, and I can tell you it was magical. Best rendition I've heard of YNWA at a game.
You have to understand the history of Liverpool FC and the struggle of the Clubs unjust dark decade's..
Remember Hillsborough and the tragedy suffered there and you will understand why Liverpool FC can move a Stadium of 95k in another country to sing YNWA..
I found this video in my feed and I got chills. Im 60 but came down to Merseyside when I was 15 and this ANTHEM, is pure loyalty in musical form. Beautiful. Thanks for the reaction. Ps check out Liverpools capt, Stevey Gerrards free kicks
. Its a friggin cannon of a shot....
Dude this has just made me smile. I walked up the stairs at anfield; the first and only time I’ve watched them play in reality, and as I got to the top of the stairs, ready to find my seat….. there it was…..it was unreal. The song started……Right then, at the EXACT moment I got to the top of the stairs and saw the pitch for the first time. Now, many people don’t know where this song is from. I’m a massive fan of musicals. Look up Carousel if you’re confused.
Honestly IT WAS almost as fantastic as the time I went to The Cavern with a friend and as we sat there during the afternoon, listening to some really great acts ……these Spanish children (30 of them) and their teachers walked in as the performer started to play Hey Jude. The children, like 90% of them had John Lennon glasses on and they entered, singing along and I swear to God, it was one of the most a precious moments EVER ❤❤❤❤❤
HOWEVER this song helped us through those years of slander, mistruths, sheer hypocrisy and yet, AND YET we will sing this forever……it’s gone beyond a song, it’s a feeling ❤❤❤
You’ll never walk alone is a heartbreaking song for most British people godbless you my American brother ❤
I was from the Walton area and was sadly around the corner from Everton. On a good day we could hear the anthem from a mile away. Lovely.
FC = Football Club. This was from a Liverpool tour about ten years ago. "You'll never walk alone" is the Liverpool anthem, and they have fans worldwide - very passionate fans (I support one of their main rivals, but I can't deny their support). And you've got to remember, sport in the UK and Australia is not franchise teams like the US, so people remain very passionate for the city they live in. BTW, the face on the giant banner was that of former Liverpool manager Bob Paisley, a legend at the club.
Appreciate the history behind the video.
It was just a training match. On a pre-season tour of Australia and Asia. Mental.
@@torsteinsolsvik443 There isn't a city in the world that loves sport more than Melbourne. It may have been just a pre-season tour, but Melburnians still turn out in their thousands.
@@GabosSaysSo Echoing the comments of those who said that YNWA took on additional significance after the Hillsborough disaster. If you're not familiar, please look into that. Apart from the human tragedy, starting with 97 direct fatalities, the UK government, media and police staged a deplorable cover-up to put the blame on supporters.
Awesome.
Liverpool. As a Forest fan . I give respect.
Im 58.
We go back along way.x
I was in the crowd that night singing with my son and the rest of the crowd. It was a very memorable event and one my son will never forget! YNWA. as the teams were coming out the fans were chanting Liverpool, LIV-ER-Pool. The big song before the start is the Liverpool anthem "You'll never walk alone" adopted the musical Carousel by Rogers and Hammerstein - a bit of American culture.
I enjoy your interesting video-finds and particularly your commentary.
Your curiosity, your generosity, your openness to various new experiences is heartwarming.
And for you to share the immediacy of your reactions is brilliant.
A terrific rest away from the often bitter, extremely closed and fixed views.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Wow, thank you!
The MCG is the biggest ground in Australia and plays host to Cricket and Australia’s biggest sport which is the AFL. It also holds 100,024
Before the refurbishment, it used to hold 105.000 easily, it's record is actually nearer to 110,000 for a Collingwood Carlton Grand Final.
The ground was being refurbished, hence why only 95k
Thanks for posting im Australia 🇦🇺 and didn't see this.
Great song thank you.❤️
That brought me to tears. Very moving.
“Land of my Fathers 2013 “
Check that out for anthem sung like no other
Will do for sure.
The greatest football/club anthem in the world.
Always brings tear to my eyes and makes the hairs on the back of my neck and arms stand up. So dam powerful
I flew from a different state of Australia to Melbourne with my son to watch the game. Amazing atmosphere!
and welcome to Melbourne !
sport is what we do here 😊😂
You’ll realise Liverpool was the “away” team?
Fabulous respect God bless the 97😢
Solidarity of a nation
Americans should try international sport, it’s great!
Why bother when you can win your domestic rounders competition & be declared "world champions"..?
Gives me chills
The MCG is the Melbourne Cricket Ground and holds around 96,000 people. The FC stands for Football Club. So this is true Football where the game is played with a ball and your feet.
MCG holds 100,024
Except that that isn’t the origin of the name 'football.'
The hillsborough disaster 1989 is what brought them all together 😢
Football's been around far, far longer than NFL. NFL is regarded as entertainment rather than a sport❤
@@Kernewik101 who mentioned the NFL?
I was there and it’s something I’ll NEVER forget!
I’m Scottish so Flower of Scotland will always be my No.1 but my goodness this is an incredibly close No.2, I love seeing the passion of the Liverpool fans and knowing the history of this song makes it incredibly moving ❤
I'm with you there . I had it played at my husband's funeral as he sang it while I drones it , at every Scottland match.
P s " droned it " I also loved Liverpool as my dad was Liverpool Irish. Ah , the memories.
This is not the national anthem but it should be. The Liverpool anthem is so much better. It always makes me cry
No it shouldn't. It's absolutely linked to one team and the supporters. It belongs there.
1:05 welcome to Melbourne - the home of truly MASSIVE sports crowds!
Up load the kop singing Y.N.W.A at Anfield home of Liverpool f.c every time I stand on the kop for every home game it still makes the hears on the back of your neck stand up
Years ago Liverpool lost their team in a plane crash a sad, sad day. Matt Busby was their manager that was him on the big flag.
MUSIC can just as easy put 95.000 in one stadium ! Especially if it is several artist at same show.
everytime i hear this i get goosebumps
Liverpool has got one of the most passionate fanbases not just in soccer but in sport period. Side note, the manager of Melbourne Victory in the vid is now the current manager of Tottenham Hotspur (no relation to San Antonio) who are top of the Premier League whilst Liverpool are 4th. Also for you should check out a UA-camr by the name of Expressions Oozing who is pretty much the most entertaining football UA-camr currently and is a Spurs fan too.
Ange ain't top now. Jurgen is😊😊
It's electrifying when you are in the stadium for a live game.
Never underestimate British football fans. They are nuts.
Australian fans mate.
I was watching this from home bawling my eyes out. My son was there, he is a mad liverpool supporter and what you may not know if memory serves me correctly those 95,000 tickets sold out in under 10 mins. As soon as the song finished i rang my son and said "well i am officially crying" and he replied so am i and everyone around me is. Australians love sport and even if its not something they follow they will still watch as they appreciate all types, especially elite sportspersons. Have a look at the australian womens soccer teams record attendanes all through the world cup!!!
Thats why its called the beautiful game
Always gets to me that song wow 😥 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
What is amazing is that was essentially an away game for Liverpool!
You can’t get more “away” than a trip from England to Australia.
Chills
In answer to your question, as they walk on to the pitch, the crowd are chanting "Li -ver-pool".
This is great, but at Anfield, home of LFC, it's something else.
Fc means football club
Not soccer
Club song share with Celtic fc and Dortmund
Not a national anthem
If you really also want to hear another aong. Sunshine on Leith by the Proclaimers at Hibs it is fantastic
Very atmospheric.
By far the the best football anthem in the world.
The GTAIV music in the arena at the start 😎🙌
I was 7 when i became a Liverpool fan. That was in ´71 😉
YNWA
Music festivals or shows in Arenas without the hooligans and riots perhaps? Hahaha Wacken Germany Blind Guardian the Bards song or Nightwish Ghost Love Score: 85.000 singing along..? But the chants like this are magical too
Liverpool are a fantastic football club the best In England...they are also a vile club who's hardcore fans from Liverpool boo the English national anthem claiming that they are not English. They are English they are just backward. Other than them they are awesome.
That was great but Not a patch on home ground version of this try Liverpool at home!
Hibernian V Rangers 2016 cup final .One of the best football anthems ever “ Sunshine on Leith “
Motown Music united America for years.
A Friendly in OZ?
Wow!
We sang this at my grandfathers funeral 💕. We’ll never walk alone
Two managers who have managed the greatest club in the world, Glasgow Celtic!
ROFL
Damn Thats Rough!
The song is from "The South Pacific."
Fairdoo's Australia.👏
We will not find the most popular song sung by a football club in the world other than the song ‘You'll Never Walk Alone' by Liverpool FC fans. In fact, during the end of the 2019 Champions League semi-final 2nd leg match between Liverpool and Barcelona at Anfield, Liverpool fans who watched the match live on big screens around the world together sang this song. It’s amazing!
it's not stand behind your country BUT stand behind your local area and the ones who gets it...
We were the away team by the way
Well 96,000 turned up to the same venue three days in a row - for Taylor Swift.
FC =Football Club ⚽
The slang term "soccer" fell out of use in the U.K. in the mid-20th century, in favor of "football." Football as is now known came into being properly due to sports on horseback used by Aristocrats, and commoners used on foot. In this event Liverpool Football Club came over from England with some fans to play Melbourne Victory Football Club. As Liverpool has a HUGE following world wide, some folks are fans of both clubs. Hence why 95,000 people sing You'll never walk alone.
If you haven't seen any AFL please track some down.. ..it will blow your mind. The song is Liverpools club song
Always some AFL bunny jumping on the football bandwagon to spruik the AFL which is played nowhere outside of Australia.
What can you say there was hardly a Melbourne victory scalf they did us proad you'll never walk alone once a fan always a fan
What is new . I remember this happening in the 60s. Not that the team's were here at the time but th ash song is so much of the gamel
Liverpool, my city, my team. YNWA ❤
Afl football has crowds of 75000 to 85000 for normal matches and the final is average at 100000
@GabosSaysSo i hop you understand/relast that this is in Australia not in England!!!
Sport is the Australian religion.
Now watch Hibs cup final sunshine on leith
I was nearly a Liverpool supporter but my Ex wife is a Scouser and I don't like football.
No they came together for the Game
CELTIC MAKE THAT LOOK TAME WHEN THEY SING IT
I liked your reflection on the unifying effect of sport
This was first recorded by Jerry and the pacemakers of England in the 1960's he came from Liverpool so it became the anthem of liverpool football. after the terrible death's of 96 or 97 fans one fan died about 2 or 3 years later after being in a coma all that time.
The owners own the Red Sox. If you support the Sox, you support the Reds
USA hockey teams winning the gold in 1960 & 1980
👍👌👏❤️
You should check out Australian Football. Very very different from soccer, rugby and American Football. First played in the 1850s. Australia's biggest sport. That stadium is its home. What is AFL? Aussie Rules Explained: ua-cam.com/video/XMZYZcoAcU0/v-deo.htmlsi=DwPRkIOgjJD1oxdn
Fumbleball.
Here in Australia 🇦🇺 we call it SOCCER 😅
