The greatest European cup final of all time
Agreed. NUFC.
Thats saying something from a Leeds fan, especially without a broken leg in sight ;)
@@knowlesy3915
😂😂😂
Maybe ManU v Bayern in 99 👍👍
I'm a united fans , but I really respected this finals...In fact I watch this games with my fellow, who's a Liverpool fans and I really screamed happy for Liverpool winning the champions League
I cannot stress how important the Liverpool fans singing at half Tim 3-0 down raised our hopes ,still brings me to tears 18 years later YNWA
we always believe, and will never give up, we are from Liverpool, we are different, maligned and vilified but true.
I could not agree more-YNWA sung that loud at 1/2 time: spine tingling for me.
I believe, according to Zajoncs paper on social facilitation (1965) l. To paraphrase: the good get better under stress , especially if they strive for the praise of people who matter.

@@blexicon8914 don’t know nowt bout that, all I know it felt like magic, telling the players however bad they’d been the supporters were right behind them, and to witness it years later against Barca at anfield 3-0 down from the first leg ,I can die happy with those two memories emblazoned on my heart
Sheffield wednesday fan. What you said dude.
As a Leeds fan that was a proud moment for English football as a whole that day ,,well deserved a truly great game
With that comment coming from a Leeds fan, that means a lot, so thank you for your comment
You sir are a football fan... respect.. YWNA
I am a Leeds fan too and I remember this game with fondness. I think Leeds and Liverpool are forever linked by our joint hatred of Scumchester 🙂
Agreed. Bolton fan so no real rivalries with Liverpool but even so, great day for English football.
@@paulliversidge7140 I remember this night very clearly, I was sat in my bedroom listening to the horror show of the first half, I had already accepted by far the better team (on and off paper) were going to win, I didn't celebrate our fist 2 goals, but when we equalised, I couldn't believe it, suddenly my belief was back again and then there was that penalty shoot out, how we came back and won I'll never know.
Yes Leeds and Liverpool despise man ure equally as much as each other, but I sincerely hope that fans of all teams came together last Saturday in our sadness when hearing the news that Sir Bobby Charlton had passed away, he was England's greatest footballer of all time, he may well have played for the scum, but there will never ever be anyone that comes close to being how great of a player he was
As a 42 year old Derby fan I've never had the chance to experience winning anything. But as a football fan this was such an emotional night. Greatest comeback of all time.
Kudos to being a true fan though mate
What about the Brian Clough Trophy, you musta won that at least once..........
Can you remember when Paolo Wanchope went through about 5 Man UTD players to score at Old Trafford? that was in the 1996-97 season with about 3 games to go, I can remember as if was yesterday.
im a ram born and bread love this
Liverpool fan here we've had some amazing ones, the one close to this game is the 2 legs vs. Barcelona in the 2019 CL semi-final. The 2016 Europa League 2nd leg against Dortmund was a brilliant night too but this one and Barcelona were a different level of excitement.
💯
The Barcelona semi was IMMENSE...corner taken quickly origiiiiiiiii
I'd throw 7-0 v United in there.
@@calgon5689 Great games we could go on for days and weeks, more to do with great comebacks. Villa 1-2 Liverpool 2019/20 was a big one.
It wasn't just the score line, it was the fans, the believe, the announcers absolutley loseing it. Best Champions final ever, by far.
18 years later an I still get goosebumps watching this what a final that was
Greatest Final of all time, still brings a tear to my eye, can't explain what this trophy meant , and the way we won it, during a dark period in Liverpool history from a success POV
That AC Milan starting eleven was a genuine dream team
I watched this live age 10, my parents gave me the day off school afterwards because it went on so late! The first and only time they ever did that
As a 13 year old liverpool fan this day was the best day of my life. Steven Gerrard deserved it for his loyalty to his city. And that AC Milan side was full of absolute stars at the time, every name on the sheet was one of the best players in the world
Are you saying you’re 13 now or when the final happened?
As a Liverpool fan this was the greatest game I have watched by my team in decades of following them. Although chatting live at half time to many fellow liverpool fans we were concerned about how many Milan would score more than hoping we'd comeback.
Not mentioned here that at half time as well as the liverpool players hearing the fans at half time still chanting and singing they could also hear Milan players celebrating in the other dressing room thinking (maybe rightly) the game was done at half time and it was just a matter of waiting the 45 minutes of the 2nd half to go up and collect their medals and lift the trophy.
It was my grandad's funeral the next day and at HT I wa sitting next to an Everton fan saying to him, "this could be six or seven".
He suggested that I get an early night given the day I was going to have ahead of me.
I said, "No chance. If we come back from this and I miss it, I'd never forgive myself".
Still one of the greatest footballing moments of my life.
It's one thing to come back from 3-0 against any team, but to do it against AC Millan who were arguably the best team in the world at the time was just insane.
I'm a Liverpool fan, watched this entire match live on TV. Have never seen a more insane, dramatic match in my life. Was a football steward at the Chelsea-LFC semi final that year too, so it was extra special.
Watched this on the telly with my dad. We broke the sofa at the 3-2 goal, as we both jumped up and landed at the same time. Thankfully it was an old sofa.
OMG , Milanista here, I remember watching it live on TV... it still hurts 😢
I can feel your pain, mate 😔
Yup.
Apparently at half time the Liverpool players in their dressing room could hear the Milan players in theirs singing and chanting that they were the champions. The Italians took it for granted it was all over. The Liverpool players could also hear their own fans singing the club anthem, You’ll Never Walk Alone. The rest is history, The Miracle of Istanbul. Never celebrate until you have your hands on the trophy.
The saddest day in football history, well for us Milan ❤️🖤 fans anyway. But the important thing is 2 years later we met again and best Liverpool without need for penalties thanks to Super Pippo Inzaghi❤️
Best Champions League Final ever.
Next has to be the 2 Legs of the 2019 Champions League Semi Final, Barcelona v Liverpool and Liverpool v Barcelona. The 2nd Leg is among the greatest Champions League games/comebacks in History
ManU v Bayern 99 is a close runner up 👍😉
@Suchac_cz Absolutely. That was the best CL Final til Instanbul. I think Tottenham's semi final ran the Liverpool/Barca close. Unbelievable pair of Semi Finals, especially in the same year
Barca 6-1 PSG as well
Been waiting a long time to see you guys react to this, that night in istanbul will foreevr be talked about, the night history was made. I remember watching this at home with my dad and all of his liverpool fan mates the house was always alive when there was a game on after this one the party didnt stop until the next day
I will never forget this game. I was 12 years old. It was the first time I’d seen us get to the UCL final. After hearing all the stories from my dad about the great Liverpool teams of the 70’s and 80’s that won it 4 times, I was buzzing.
Then the first half happened, and I was in tears, just bawling my eyes out in devastation.
Those 6 minutes when we pulled it back are without a doubt some of the best of my life. I was in tears again, but for very different reasons 😂
It wasn’t just the fact that we pulled it back and won. It was that we had done it with one of the worst squads in our history and against possibly the best team in the world at the time. With some of the stars they had I never in a million years would have said it was possible.
only a mug would say that Liverpool achieved that with one of the worst squads in history, under estimated by someone who could never know who we are.
@@lordflashget8780What are you talking about?
It was a terrible squad, we didn’t even finish in the top 4 that season. We finished 5th with Everton, yes, Everton coming 4th.
When liverpool came home my dad and brother were there in the streets to welcome them home with the trophy. Its tradition to do a street parade on a double decker bus when they bring the trophy home
Neither a Milan or Liverpool fan but I remember watching this game, certainly the best comeback I have ever seen live. While not a comeback as such, the 4-3 between Leeds United and Liverpool back in 2000 was a great game of back and forth.
Maddest game I've watched as a Liverpool fan. This Milan team on paper is just Madness, what a result what a game what a team LFC YNWA ❤
I told you this was a beaut. I’m glad you enjoyed it
Im a Luton fan but this final was special. One where you remember where you were, who you watched it with even if you have no affiliation with liverpool like me
The pride and glee in daniels face as the teams began to walk out on to the pitch and you feel the electricity coming from the crowd, ithink dan is british now
The Miracle of Istanbul ❤️❤️❤️❤️⚽
the even big context about this final is how we ( Liverpool ) were so out gunned in terms of players , like that Milan team was stacked with league winners , champions league winners and even world cup winners . Also the champions league anthem will never not give me chills
I remember watching this live down the pub and as a football fan, especially when watching the UCL final, you never lose hope, you always believe there's a way back, especially when it's Liverpool!
My daughter was born 9 months after this game. The maternity ward was swamped with pregnant ladies as it was the biggest baby boom Liverpool had seen for years. Seems like we all celebrated in the same way! As a 50 year old Liverpool fan, this was the greatest game I've ever experienced.
As an AC Milan fan, remember crying for 2 days after that match. That's maybe the worst football related trauma i've had in my entire life
The starting XI that AC Milan had that night was amazing, one of the greatest teams of all time. I gave Liverpool not much of a chance of winning, and I'm a Liverpool fan, their team was so much better than ours, even though we did have a really good team, the first 45mins was bloody awful for us, but the rest of the game, we were brilliant
Came here to say this! It's literally the definition of against all odds.
I was at Anfield a couple of weeks ago and I looked at the 2 teams again and just wondered how they did it. That Milan team was stacked
@@IanScott-ze4nr Milan's team definitely was stacked, the whole starting XI were megastars, in terms of the amount of star players, I still can't recall ever seeing a better one, even with the current crop of superstar names out there
Still makes me emotional every single time I watch this final. Just one example why Liverpool FC are the most special club in the world. You guys should also check out our comeback against Barcelona in the semi final in 2019. We lost the 1st leg 3-0 and then came back to win the 2nd leg 4-0, despite having some of our best players out injured or suspended. An iconic moment was the "corner taken quickly... ORIGI" goal. We then went on to win the final. No club makes your hairs stand up on the back of your neck more than Liverpool do. YNWA
Im not liverp*ol fan but you probably have to cover the Champs League Semi final against Barcelona at Anfield in 2019. That was incredible and there's some great footage on youtube of that.
Some fans did leave at half time, most stayed, a couple even got crazy odds at half time for a Liverpool win, 100-1. The Italian team went in celebrating as if the game was over, but in European competitions the game is never over for LFC until the final whistle.
I have to admit, I felt embarrassed by how good Milan were in the 1st half and thought we were going to lose, but there was no way I wouldn’t stay, I had already walked out of a job just to be there.
25th May 2005. I was in my mid 20s at the time. The city of Liverpool was enveloped in a strange but wonderful carnival/ party atmosphere. There were celebrating fans everywhere, people driving in the streets honking horns. I've never seen anything like it.
The main thing about football in general is it takes less than a minute sometimes to score a goal or it will take just one mistake and the outcome of the game can change in an instant, Also there has been many an upset by smaller unknown teams against the more established top tier teams, which happens a lot more in the Cup Tournaments like the F,a cup and league cup.
You'll Never Walk Alone is the main motto of Liverpool and when the fans sing it in the packed Anfield stadium before each game it deffo sends the tingles through the body :) Cheers for sharing this :)
To give this a little more context, the Champions League final is one of the biggest matches in club football anywhere in the world. Liverpool, for all their success in the past had been struggling for many years at this point, going against probably the greatest side ever assembled. AC Milan had the best players in the world in every position, even some all time legends of the game like Maldini. No one gave Liverpool much hope before the game, losing 3-0 at half time, it was a case of how bad can it get.
The first goal, the second, then the penalty miss just to add even more tension before being scored on the rebound. Shevchenko who was the best striker in the world at that time had so many chances to score but for the heroics of Liverpool's defenders and especially Dudek, none more so that the double save in extra time. The crowd were fantastic and surely helped put doubt into the minds of the Milan players.
Anything can happen in a penalty shootout, I'm not ashamed to admit I was crying tears of joy when Shevchenko missed that final penalty. A lot of people won't understand just what that meant to so many people, but it was one of the best and most emotional nights of my life.
At half time and 3-0 down I was practically in tears praying that it wouldn’t be 6-0. We were being totally outplayed. At the end I was hugging a cushion, in tears of joy. I still find it hard to believe we won that match, but that’s Liverpool YNWA!
Liverpool were massive underdogs, that Milan team was stacked with quality players. Crespo was on loan from Chelsea (who liverpool had knocked out in the prev round) so was some sense of Chelsea haunting us.
Some fans did leave at half-time. Even now got goosebumps listening to that half-time YNWA.
Now they've changed rules regarding penalties that the keeper had to stay on the line and i think now the ball is dead and can't be put in the net like Alonso did. Unsure on the last point.
Still get emotional watching this back, I was 18 at the time and had no kids or a job so football was the only thing that I had going for me. It meant so much at the time.
We won the CL again a few years back and it was brilliant but didn't feel the same as that one.
This game will remain etched in my memory. Being a Liverpool fan made this very difficult to watch, in the last few minutes I had a pillow over my head!! Great reaction guys 👍🏻👍🏻
Should have tried being a utd fan in the 90's
We won every game in the last 15 mins if not the last 3
And more comebacks than Jimmy Carr FFS lol
Love how we can all remember exactly what we was doing no matter who we supported
Slippy g 😂😂😂
He slipped on his fu€€ing arse…..
He gave it to Bemba ba 😂😂😂😂😂
I remember watching this at home with my son. It was a school night but I let my son stay up for the duration. Come half time we were devastated but still carried on d watching. Come the end we were crying tears of joy and hugging. Ended up keeping off school as my son couldnt sleep. Greatest final ever. YNWA
25th may 2005 best night of my life I remember it like it happened yesterday the whole city of Liverpool erupted Jerzy Dudek double save amazing comeback and match YNWA
Yes Spence!! Your felt some of the Liverpool magic for sure. Ive been a fan since I was 5 years old, I'm 46 now & nothing has compared to that game. LFC 4 LIFE ❤
As a Liverpool fan, I'm getting spine tingles rewatching this! It was a special, special night!!!!
That double save cannot be underestimated in its significance……you have to watch it in slo-mo to appreciate how miraculous it was.
Liverpool fan here, I watched this on TV as it happened. I've never had a night watching football like it 😂
I was in the pub with my Liverpool fan mates. What a night!
i was a kid when this happened and i was there for the parade back in liverpool after we won it was so insane, i had climbed on top of a bus stop with my older sister screaming at the top of our lungs and we got a wave from gerrard who spotted us from their parade bus it was immense and i will never forget it for the rest of my life
Was watching this match in the Pilgrim pub in Liverpool. The moment the final penalty was saved, someone jumped up and knocked the cable out of the projector for the screen! Amazing match.
I have to say though, you need to watch the other commentary, this was good, but the other commentary is ICONIC! The ‘here we go, here we go, Steven Gerrard, puts a grain of doubt in the back of Milan minds’
I have loved this channel right up to the point you downloaded the red sh*te.
You have let me down, but more importantly you have let yourself down.
Much love an Everton fan. 😊
Milan was stacked best team in the world at that time
I was at the game. That half time break remains the most surreal moment of my match-going life. I went to the toilet and as headed through the stand there were a few pockets of fans who were (literally) fighting with each other about whether they should get behind or criticise the team - other than that it was dead. Every single person was emotionally drained - we'd waited so long to get back in the European Cup Final (this was my first) and it was almost certainly already over. The toilets were a room made of four concrete walls with no roof, and the stadium was on top of a mountain miles away from anywhere. I can vividly recall looking up to the star-filled sky and thinking "is this it?". As I headed back to my seat the fighting fans were hugging each other and You'll Never Walk Alone was beginning to break out. None of it mattered anymore. We were here, we were proud, and we were going to make the most of it. The following 60 minutes or so were the most intense, nervous, joyful minutes of my life. Up the Reds!
One of the best games I’ve ever watched. Goosebumps every time I watch it!
Hernan Crespo’s second goal was a beauty! I remember watching this game live. It was even better in slow motion replays.
The commentary is taken from Radio City which is a local radio station in Liverpool.
One of the commentators is John Aldridge ex Liverpool legend. It might explain why there was a lot of screaming and shouting 😂
John Aldridge, he's lfc through and through
Doesnt matter what club you support that was the greatest come back in a final I have ever seen. People forget that Milans team was full of the best players in the world.
I was sitting in a Spanish beach bar watching this. I couldn’t believe it and I’ll never forget it. 🏴❤️
“It’s wonderful, it’s marvellous, it’s 3-3”
Epic commentary 😂😍
I'm a Liverpool Supporter Till Death And Beyond 🏴 ❤️ 🇬🇧
Watching this again after all these years still has me crying
What a night I'll never ever forget it
LIVERPOOL YNWA 🏴❤️🇬🇧❤️
Milan was at the top of their game in these years The Miracle in Istanbul.. is one of the best Liverpool combacks ... the best imho the 4-0 at home against Barcelona after loosing 3-0 at Nou Camp back in 2019 YNWA
You two are just touching the surface of miracles
You need to look at the miracle at Anfield. Two leg game both home and away for the semi final against Barcalona
It was 3-0 to Barca after the first leg in Spain which meant that the reds needed to win by four clear goals at Anfield
Needless to say it was the best football game I had ever seen😅
Please look into Steven Gerrard.
(Edit)
RIP Bobby Charlton.
A man that was welcome at every single club worldwide.
A perfect illustration of the saying “it’s a game of 2 halves”
Excellent stuff guys. We need more videos like this one. Story type videos that give context to the matches like this one.
Man Utd Vs Bayern Munich (1999 Champions League Final)
The story of Leiscter City winning the Premier League
They are two videos that would be good to react to. Anyway guys, keep up the good work.
I was 21 in the pub, drinking and playing pool, while watching this. Unique event: never seen it before, never seen it again
Great to see you guys reacting to two of my fav things. First Father Ted, now Liverpool FC. YNWA
As a Liverpool fan My beer was still on the ceiling of the pub for about 2 years after Liverpool came back and won the Champions League, the pub I was in just erupted after the penalties. Fantastic game.
Great video. Fiorentina v West Ham Europa Conference Final 2023 was a great game as it was West Ham first cup win in 47 years and the West Ham fans were great
I watched this match stevie gerrard was so instrumental great match I love watching liverpool the passion wonderful how I love this sport
That Milan team! Looking back all these years ago, one of the greatest squads ever created!!!
Part of the reason why Liverpool came out and played so well other than the fact that they knew that they hadn't lost the game yet and Milan also said we can't relax because this Liverpool team is dangerous is that the Liverpool fans were still singing all the way through halftime singing for their team.
The Miracle of Istanbul. Still gives me goosebumps every time. (lifelong Liverpool supporter)
I was on holiday in Turkey during this game, ive never seen anything like it in my life, one hell of a night it was.
At half time, I was so despondent, I turned the tv off and went for a walk, came back and turned it back on and saw we had a goal back in the first part of the second half. It was a white knuckle ride from there. Wait for the spaghetti legs moment. I was about to order my comfort food of a Chinese meal at jalf time. Milan did get their own back in the final 2 years later.
Only game I ever cried at it was that emotional, we were dead and buried at half-time and I was cancelling a night out cause I was so down, skip forward a couple of hours and my house was full of mates getting ridiculously drunk 🎉🎉
My Dad is a Liverpool fan. I watched this game live in the pub with him and his friends. Going in, I didn't care who won. By the end, like you guys I was a red! This game made me fall in love with football, I chased thay feeling again for years. I found it one time, when my side Swansea City won promotion to the Premier league in 2012. I'm anxiously waiting for a chance to feel that way again.
To get out of the group stages that season they also had to score three unanswered goals in the second half against Olympiakos. Just an incredible season for them in the Champions League
2 legs Liverpool Barcelona 2019 you need to watch that game ..big fan of you guys .. Im a Liverpool fan it would be great to see your reaction from them games .. you will be amazed .
As a Liverpool fan i was 14 at the time at half time I was so upset but at after we won in the end was amazing
Also watch the even more incredible Liverpool comeback against Barcelona in the semi final of the Champions league!
I don't think it's fully appreciated just how good the Milan side was that faced Liverpool in this match. In nearly every position Milan had a player that would later be considered a great of the game. It wasn't just a massive comeback on the biggest stage, it was a comeback against a great side.
I was on vacation at the time with my grandma, her friend and the friend’s grandson. We were out at a pub watching the match and when Liverpool were 3-0 down at half time, my grandma’s friend (a die-hard Liverpool supporter) left in a huff, threw her jersey in the gutter and went to bed, my grandma and I stayed up and finished the game in the hotel bar - grandma’s friend never forgave herself for missing the entire second half 😂
This is a Liverpool supporter cried died, survived and celebrated that night of the witnessing the most incredible sporting occasion ever!!!. When anyone asks a Liverpool supporter if they can win a game, They just recount five words "remember the miracle of Istanbul"
I love you guys and you're other vids, esp the un biased views on UK comedies and am so happy to see you watching one of the greatest games in Football History, and of course my team Liverpool !!!!! good skills boys Y.N.W.A
Hiya Spencer and Daniel, I was at work when the miracle of Istanbul happened, but my cousin Alan was at the game, when Liverpool went 3-0 down at half time, I said to my co worker Jeff, there not out of this thing yet, when Liverpool made it 3-3 we were jumping around the kitchen, I caught extra time and penalties down at the pub, and the whole place exploded when Liverpool won, if you can do 1999 Champions League final, that was Man UTD V Bayern Munich, the final was at Barcelona, I'm a Newcastle United fan, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England
Liverpool are a special club, I've always had a soft spot for them. The most successful English club and have achieved their success the right way. This was the greatest Champions League final of all time by far
I love how you don't call it Soccer, but footy, thanks for that it gives you Kudos
What a team that Milan team was , which makes it all the more unbelievable what we did that night. Ynwa ❤
I remember watching this on the telly. You could tell Liverpool was going to win as soon as the second half started....absolute madness.
No one believes me, but I was watching this game in my new Flat with my new House mate and we had our mates around, all Liverpool and Arsenal fans, all the Arsenal lot were roasting us at half time, I went to the toilet, and in there I was thinking "nah I am not having this ...were gonna win", came out of the toilet back in to the living room and said "not worried guys, greatest European comeback you will ever see, we are winning this cup" , not gonna pretend I fully believed it, but a part of me did. As soon as the 2nd goal went in, I remember the camera cutting to a shot of Ancelotti chewing gum terrified, and I knew then we would win, EVERY part of me knew. I could see the fear in his eyes, and thought we will get another goal
Istanbul has honestly become liverpools home away from home, they’ve never lost there and that’s wild since they’ve listed 3 trophies there now.
I'm a Liverpool fan, I watched live on the box. It still gets my heart beating.
Sadly this game still give me PTSD but we did get our revenge in Athens two years later 2007
You guys did, would you agree with this? In 05 AC were the better side, but Liverpool somehow won, and in 07 Liverpool were the better team, but AC somehow won?
Spot on - although I’d argue Milan were much more complicit in their defeat in 2005 (complacency early in the second half and unable to really get back up to speed) than Liverpool were in 2007.
Sadly, Rafa Benitez’s most depressing memory of that night in 2007 was that it was also the moment when he realised just how utterly full of shit our new American owners were. Walked the streets of Athens alone because he didn’t want to face the team knowing that the investment and big money transfers they were expecting just weren’t coming. (Ironically we did sign Torres that summer and he went on to be the best striker in Europe for a couple of years, but Hicks and Gillett failed to deliver on anything else).
Rafa got it so wrong in the first half and so right in the second half, just by bringing on Hamann. We, Liverpool, had a massive hole in our midfield which bringing in Hamann fixed. I'll also say that we had some luck also. Strange thing, I was in a pub in the centre of Liverpool, watching this. I phoned my girlfriend at half time and told her it was men against boys and hoped we wouldn't get humiliated. Went back in the pub and some random guy by me started complaining. I said to him, we can still win this and I started a chorus of 'oh when the Reds, go marching in' I hope the positivity had an effect because the half time of the fans in the stadium singing You'll Never Walk Alone certainly did. Magical.
As a Liverpool supporter I’ll never forget the pride I felt in my team this was the greatest comeback in champions league football and it was my team who showed the world why you never give up, and even though it was our 5th win in the competition at that time now 6 it was by far the sweetest because none of us expected it
You need to cover Nottingham Forest's European Cup story next. "I Believe in Miracles".
Guys....I love that you covered this match...greatest night of my life.
Please....
Cover Liverpool v Barcelona
And Steven Gerrard...Ultimate midfielder
Then, your footie videos are complete
I'm polish, and at that time, Liverpool had polish goal keeper. I can't describe what was happening in Poland after this penalty shootout, madness, pure madness 😁
