"Why does NATO still exist?"
Guess we can see very clearly why, right now.
Yess and who said NATO IS not needed anymore maybe this is the reason why that organization still exist
Definitely! 🇹🇷🇺🇦
Absolutely
What about the 90s and the early 2000s

I genuinely don't think I ever learned about NATO in school. Much appreciate for this!

It’s weird how there isn’t a good standard of teaching. Cause I remember learning about NATO
In the U.S. is usually taught during high school
What are they teaching to kids now? You can't teach history about the 20th century without mentioning NATO.
Kind of funny that NATO has a UA-cam channel
What's so funny about that? Countless organizations have social media pages......
russia, cina e corea del nord non lo approvano
There are 208 countries in the world. 30 of them are NATO members. More than 70 percent of the world's defense expenditures belong to NATO. The total defense expenditure of the remaining 178 countries is not even 30 percent. A truly extraordinary power. Leader in all forces in air, land and sea.
What should we do then?
russia, china and India are major countries outsiode of nato and expect russia both china and india are going to increase their defence budget rapidly. On the other hand, due to refugess and shrinking population of europe, there number will decrease in long course of time.

I am from Scotland and when I was 10 years old my father introduced me to this old man who had one foot.
He was a ww2 veteran and unfortunately stood on an anti personnel mine.
As time went on I heard of NATO on television.
It reminded me of that old ww2 veteran as everybody called him NATO.
Now I realise that it's also an army. Strange that.
strange
True
But it was formed in 1949 ..and WW2 happened before that time

“For evil men to accomplish their purpose, it is only necessary that good men do nothing,”
Never a truer word spoken.
Do you know who is the author of this quote?
This one is slightly different than the one you've quoted; but the meaning is pretty much the same.
“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
I'm just curious, without any internet to provoke you, or anyone else.

Watching this after finding out how close the strike was to the NATO border. Although we in the UK have allies; these are still horrendously scary & terrifying times :(
Wars have never stopped but instead have changed forms. As we're seeing countries join NATO (or not) we're seeing clear lines being drawn that foreshadow possible War of a more traditional kind. Russia/Ukraine is just the beginning imo.
Just think how scary it is for those who aren't NATO memebers. Look at Iraq. Have they found those weapons of mass destruction? Sleep easy if you live in a NATO country, then you are safe. How many NATO countries have a majority non white population? Diversity is not a big thing for NATO. All the world's biggest colonial powers are part of NATO. Believe me, that scares everybody in the old colonies.

I'm so glad Sophie Ellis-Bextor took the time to narrate this video.
As a former soldier in the Swiss army, I would immediately volunteer again if our country were to join NATO. what was once called brain death is now the largest organization for peace and freedom in the world, i am very grateful to nato, greetings from switzerland
My Estonian friend is really glad to be in NATO😉. I'm glad we have NATO to maintain the peace and stability.
This is my first time learning about what NATO truly is and in my eyes is the closest thing we have to a world government the closest thing we have to no borders and being one planet we may be hundreds of years away from that reality maybe even thousands, But after learning what NATO is I think I could support its existence. I'm not 100% sure what they have done and why some people don't like them but I like the idea behind it.
maybe the same reason why criminals don't like the Police.
How is world government a good thing? What are the positive in your mind?
@@Vekikev1 Easier coordination on everything, from immigration to ensuring other countries get the help they need to be self-suficient (instead of donating to charity and keep sending food or whatnot investing in actual projects), a sense of unity pretty much like how patriotism works but for the whole planet. Easier for someone to become a whistle blower if there is corruption because its a very big entity with many workers instead of a small party inside a country. The benefits are many, also no wars in between us pretty much like NATO works now. If you are thinking in an Illuminati New World Order kind of world government then I can see why is not appealing to you but thats bullshit. While we are still far from corruption I can realize how certain political groups, including Russia, try to scare people with those conspiracy theories to gain followers, same as cults. Not all conspiracy theories are a lie but many are exagerated or plain false to push a narrative.
A beautiful theory and ideology but dangerous, just like Napoleon was.
@@Eledin91 The larger & more overarching a administrative organisation is, the more complicated becomes coordination on a local & individual level, because the distanced burocratic autoreties lack the connection & the comprehension with the situsation of the logstics in material & mind's on a level beneath the overarching burocratic world. This leads to a sufficating amount of burocratic over-regulation of basically everything, as the failing attempt of the burocrats, to keep control over a system that became quickly to bloated. Thats the main issues of the EU.
Zawsze aktualne, Szacunek!
Finland has option to join into NATO. Finland joining into NATO would stabilize whole eastern Europe because Finland has and always had really strong ground army.
Why are they not joining?🤔
not really. Bordering Russia, it would be considered as a threat to Russia and would destabilize peace. I think every country should join nato as long as it's not viewed as a threat to a country that doesn't agree with NATO's principles
putin will not be very happy if finland joins nato
@@an_omega_wolf For Russia, basically anything is a threat. And considering Russia´s actions AND THREATS, whatever it says now should be followed the other way around.

I'm an American and I'm all in on the alliance. We're stronger together.
Why was the 1982 falklands war not considered an attack on all allies?
A combination of articles 5 and 6 didn't put an obligation on NATO to intervene in the Falklands conflict:
Article 5
The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognised by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.
Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall immediately be reported to the Security Council. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security .
Article 6
For the purpose of Article 5, an armed attack on one or more of the Parties is deemed to include an armed attack:
on the territory of any of the Parties in Europe or North America, on the Algerian Departments of France , on the territory of Turkey or on the Islands under the jurisdiction of any of the Parties in the North Atlantic area north of the Tropic of Cancer;
on the forces, vessels, or aircraft of any of the Parties, when in or over these territories or any other area in Europe in which occupation forces of any of the Parties were stationed on the date when the Treaty entered into force or the Mediterranean Sea or the North Atlantic area north of the Tropic of Cancer.
Note: Algeria is now an independent country + the Falklands are south of the Tropic of Cancer.
It was just only over some islands
@@MikeC_BE_2870 Could you explain it to me like i'm 5?
@@MikeC_BE_2870 Why does it need to be only territories north of the Tropic of Cancer?

What is the relationship with the United nations?
Well, NATO is more democratic. UN has the security council where the five permanent members can stop the handling of their war crimes and crimes against the humanity: Russia, China, US, UK, France.
UN should be fixed by demolishing the veto right of the five countries.

NATO mission has changed- democracies need a collective defense to remain viable in this world. That defense has also changed. Cyber threats continue and adversaries jockey for control. A 2% of GDP is all that is asked of member countries for such defense.
It's changed again.
2% of GDP is a lot. Germany doesn't even spend 2% of its GDP on its military.

NATO is easily the strongest military alliance in the world.
Is it?
If China should join Russia, who would then be the dominant alliance between them and Nato.
@@PivotPoint007 why would China join Russia?
@@PivotPoint007 NATO and it is not even close. Look at list of countries by military expenditures. USA 39% , china 13% of total dollars spend world wide on military. And if germany spends the 2% of its GDP it promised it will spend more than russia. Not even counting the rest of the countries, which includes other big economies like UK, France and rest of Europe.
