You are the first person to not shit on every aspect of the trailer. I see there are some things it could work on but I am overall optimistic I agree with you
@@vaporghoul Now one thing that worries me is the "Reap what you sow" on the wall in the trailer which was never in the original and feels very corny and on the nose (even the original Silent Hills of course can be corny and on the nose, for better and worse, but at least it tends to leaves most to the imagination) However this kinda gives me the vibe that they'll try to either change up the story until it's unrecognizable or make it feel super on the nose and leave nothing up to interpretation, which was such a strong element in the original. Their best bet imo is to make the game as 1:1 to the original as possible (same ost that plays at the same points, nearly the same cutscenes and camera angles) while improving the graphics, gameplay, etc. Also this may be a hot take but I think they should've kept the fixed camera angle, sure it sucked at some points in boss battles in the originals, but its so pertinent to Silent Hill's style, they could've found a way to make it less jank If the gameplay is meh but the story is kept as good as it was in the original it will be a decent remake for me, but if the gameplay is fun but the story is ruined or watered down then I'm gonna despise it

2:43 That's because they don't totally understand the silent hill art direction. The interiors in the original games always looked natural. They didn't try to impress with the architecture or anything. You could almost smell the apartments in the original. In the remake, environments look like set pieces for a film. Architecture is more fancy, less realistic, too many flickering lights (and too many lights overall).
I love how we have seen around 5 minutes of footage in total and people think they know how the game is like a finished review. We just have to wait and play it first to give an opinion like how a discussion should be.
I'm actually still excited I played through the original growing up and played it with my son later in life plan on doing a few playthroughs with him when it comes out
Now I've heard 2 opinions about the interior design - some people love the darkness and think it is dirty like the Ps2 OG; and on the other hand like you said - not enough slime and dirt. Idk looks fine to me, besides I just want to try and make the camera go under Maria's skirt
I think it’s down to preference I do see why people like the new style, as the graphic/textures do look good but I kinda prefer the old style. Like I say in the video, everyone is really overreacting about this and I do think the game is gonna be good (hopefully no game braking bugs) And Overall I’m just happy I get to play this great game in a new way.
As someone who actually often prefers remakes (Resident Evil 3), I'm excited for this but cautious. And if anything I'm actually not at all against Bloober. They may not make the best original ips (*cough Layers of Fear*) but they're clearly passionate about Silent Hill and seem to be taking into account what fans want. I've only played a fewish hours of the original Silent Hill 2, and just like Resi 4 (and retroactively with RE2 and RE3)I plan on playing the original Silent Hill 2 before remake. I wish people would let Bloober just work on things instead of freaking out
i just want my friends and family to enjoy it too, most people won't play a 20 year old game so it's nice to have a remake, even if it won't be perfect.
Thank you for a nuanced opinion. I mean, it looks fine. It is a combat trailer. The game won't be this much smashing and shooting, and to be honest... There are way to much fighting even in the original four games. Try to walk for a minute without being mobbed by ghosts in SH4 for example. But the people that found the OG through endless of 4 hour essay videos don't even realize that the old games had so much flaws. None of them have aged gracefully. It's not surprising that they are trying to modernize those aspects in the remake. Don't matter how much shit these man babies says on the internet. If the remake sucks, no one is holding us at gunpoint forcing us to play it. Let's hope for the best. I'm just glad that SIlent HIll are finally back. JUST PLEASE DITCH THE QTE's PLEASE.
Silent Hill and Resident Evil have always been similar. i love both and it seems to me that "hardcore" fans love even the weaker efforts of either franchise. Casual fans are more nostalgic than they'll ever admit. I'm optimistic about this remake whether or not it takes 2 more years lol especially if the combat looks a bit cheesy.. cause as you said.. the original wasn't really about smashing baddies
I saw a video and when dead space remake was being worked on the plasma cutter had almost the same sound as the pistol in sh2 remake so hopefully it’s just a placeholder

I mean I would never hate a RE that look like silent hill and I would never hate a silent hill that looks like RE Both of them are one of the most enjoyable games i played
in regards to the combat, the fact that it was a focus of Bloober team at all shows a pretty intense misunderstanding of the games themes. It's less about james being overpowered and more about him being violent, and if you make the violence fun and accessible it creates issues with the narrative.
I think it’s important to note that for a lot of people, this is our fast access to play the game. Emulators and online ports are a process to set up, and to buy the og game and PS2 is pricey. And so for me personally I am excited to play as I love the music and survival horror genre as a whole. It also kind of makes me feel like I am a “lesser” video game fan when I see the comments under it filled with hate, disappointment and belittlement, when I am just excited to finally experience the game for myself.
The fixed camera angle is what makes it silent hill and unique in the original. It makes it cinematic, convey the scene, seeing the surroundings and the characters from different camera angles is unique. Nowadays every game is boring because all you can see is the back of the head. I prefer the fixed camera angles, really elevated the scenes for me which i wouldn't experience in a typical boring same old same old back of the head camera angle. Bring back the cinematic fixed camera angles, make games great again.
3:40 Critiquing sound effects is not a "nit-picky" thing to do at all. Sound is one of the most important elements in achieving an immersive experience in both games and movies. Sound effects are EXTRA important in making a good horror game.
The sound effect do need work on But tbf without any more examples of the sound effect we just can’t really say as they could be reason for it that are unknown to us that make the sound good so just wait to the next trailer
About the release date of the remake, the official PlayStation account tweeted that it’s coming out this year! (Not sure why they didn’t put it in the trailer though…)
I like how in the new trailer that James is more clean shaved(looks more like James) than the James we got in the first trailer. Than again Bloober team could add in the stubble from the first trailer which would disappoint me. I will give the devs the benefit of the doubt since the game is still in development. My only gripe is that the dead TV James is covered by a sheet. Feels odd trying to hide it. Don't have any real high hopes for it and I would have preferred a SH 1 or SH 3 remakes over 2 remake.
Since the release of Origins, the public reaction has always been like this, so no, it's no suprise to me that everyone is roasting the heck out of anything and everything. In my honest opinion, the series reached its peak very early with SH2 (although The Room is my personal favorite) and would basically doom the series to have an entry as good or, better artistically speaking. Realizing this early has helped me keep my expectations in check since the release of Origins, you cant always catch lightning in a bottle twice. Having said that, I still look forward to the remake. It's clear from the trailer that there's still a lot of space for adjustments and polish, and I think having no release date is probably for the best. I dont want these future projects to fail, I want them to succeed, so I wish all involved the very best of luck 🙂
This remake is in a tough spot. Change too much, people will complain. Change nothing, people will complain and says it’s pointless. No one should expect the same impact as the original and maybe we will all be surprised by it.
But then you'd inevitably have hordes of "gAmErS" (who cant grasp the concept that things like film grain/motion blur can actually _add_ atmosphere to an immersive singleplayer horror game, who think that every game needs to look like Counter Strike 2) complaining about it. It's a lose lose for the developers. 😂
Because it makes no sense to show an old build of a game. But in defense of Bloober they are working with Konami and Konami is notorious for making stupid decisions.

I have faith that if they just tweak some of the stiff looking animations like James’ walking animation this could be a damn good remake, hopefully as good as the RE2 remake was. The way it modernized the game, while staying faithful to the original for the most part. I do love the visuals of it so far, looks amazing and they nailed the fog.

Some complaints feel a bit forced, but I think the negativity isn't coming from nowhere. Bloober have a spotty track record and this is the crown jewel of survival horror, only two original Team Silent members are involved, Konami's poor handling of the series for a very very long time, the atrocious availability of the franchise overall. The last official Silent Hill game was PT, which got cancelled and scrubbed from the PS store forever about ten years ago by now, and the few newest SH games have either been awful or very mixed in terms of reception, its all compounded and I think the astronomical expectations shouldn't be surprising. I'd like it to be good, but things just look iffy right now.
The games combat looks fine, the shooting looks kind of bad and like a work in progress build. I think pesonally the initial knee jerk reaction is due to it resembling a Homecoming remake during combat and like Silent Hill 2 (or Shattered Memories actually)during exploration scenes.
Man as long as it's an adult horror game for adults nd not another indie trash cash grab like garden of ban ban or poppy play time that the horror game industry has been neutered and reduced to... I wholeheartedly support it.
Boober hasn't made combat titles. They could really use the OG SH2 to their advantage, just refining combat but keeping the aesthetic true. I feel like not remaking silent hill ps1 way a missed opportunity. Then again, if this silent hill 2 remake succeeds...what a sequel that could be

it's not about the action. the problem is that the camera shaking, the movements of james and of course the quick time events make it look like a silent hill homecoming rather than the silent hill 2 we know. if the game had a basic dodge mechanic, good camera placement and smarter enemy ai i wouldn't see a problem at all because it would add an additional sense of fear in making the player fear for their health status besides the atmosphere of the game. let's be real. james is a normal person, but not a punching bag lol pd: black ops 3 zombies is goated
IMO, it's called a remake for a reason cause it's all not going to be the same. It's like RE4 Remake they changed somethings but not all which will probably be the same as the Remake for Silent Hill 2. I think its Dum to criticize a game that has not come out yet because there not giving the Devs a chance which is just stupid IMO. Yes, I agree with you that the game will come out and be find.
As long as the combat isn't a game of Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots like Homecoming where it felt like it took ages to beat even just one enemy, and James isn't flushed with enough ammo to steamroll every enemy, then so what if the damn combat is a bit more refined compared to the original? Combat in a horror game should at least be a little fun so when you decide to battle enemies, you feel some satisfaction in beating them. When it's just clunky and janky, it feels less like you're refusing to fight because of concerns about survival and more about concern of dying from boredom. If they can make sure that the enemies are just the right level of threatening and resources feel limited, then it should be fine. As for the other stuff like the environments, hopefully those will be improved as time goes on so things don't look clean unless it's an area where there wasn't any grime. On the QTE thing, I don't mind those too much, but I would also say they could have just gone with the old fashioned "wiggle the analog stick" without using any onscreen prompt that some older horror games had. Hopefully they won't have invasive tutorial screens, or at least make sure to keep those optional/able to be toggled, and we should be good. I can get where people are concerned, but it does seem silly to act like this trailer was the final nail in the coffin to a game that's probably not gonna out until either the end of year or early next year at the earliest.
Man RE has been my favorite games since 1998 and Silent hill is really dope too. I don't understand the comparisons when even alan wake too RE style too.. I think Silent Hill 2 will be fun and a good game. Like you said that was a combat trailer ofc its gonna show nothing but combat.
In terms of combat its clearly heavily inspired by the resident evil remakes except it looks distinctly very fast paced akin to re4 remake than re2. Re2 strikes a good balance between thrilling combat and a kind of slow burn. Here it all feels slightly too fast at least in my opinion. I am currently playing through silent hill 2 so i probably dont have the some ubderstanding if others but thats my opinion at least
I feel as though everyone is dog piling on to this way too quickly. I know it’s technically finished. But the lack of release date gives me hope that they’ll at least polish the heck out of it. If they need more time to completely change something. Then I’m more than happy to wait. Just gonna try to be optimistic about this one. I’m also sure that Bloober knows everyone is skeptical about them working on this game and really doesn’t want to screw it up. Would be a permanent stain on their reputation. So I choose to be optimistic.

Combat was never supposed to feel super good. James is a regular guy, with no weapon's training. And the over-the-shoulder camera is obviously coming from the AAA shooter RE4 template, which is a shame. We can't have camera angles in horror games in modern day...

The texture of the environment looks great and the puzzles looks ok. But the combat…be so for real💀 Now allegedly the gameplay footage we see in this trailer is unseen footage from the first trailer we saw 16 months ago. Ive never been so happy that ive cried before..until i saw the reveal trailer for the remake and i currently have the remake james watching over Silent Hill at the very beginning as my phone wallpaper..im so glad i have never played a team Bloober game before cuz that seemed to have killed some peoples excitement for the remake
A combat trailer for the remake in hindsight of the original game already existing and being known for mainly its atmosphere and story is the most Konami thing ever, "oh sh2? Yea, showcase combat, that's what the original is known for. Fans are gonna love it". Missing the point-maxxing. The og devs stated clearly in interviews, James is an everyday man, they didn't want to portray some action hero or a war veteran, the remake doesn't convey that.
There is absolutely zero chance that the remake will be anywhere near as good as the original. The art direction, atmosphere and especially the storytelling will take a MASSIVE hit compared to original. And btw I'm absolutely not opposed to the idea of remaking this game, but not by god damn Bloober Team, they are the last studio I would ever want to touch this project.
Im hyped for 4 games for 2024, FF7, Stellar Blade, Outlaws, & Silent Hill. I dont see anything else thats for 2024 worth my cash. Quick time is in last of us 1 & 2 when grabbed so is what it is that dont bother me. I like the atmosphere nailed, i like the shooting, im not worried, but 70 is a bit much. Waiting on a sale
it's certainly not a great trailer but in its defense, the gameplay was rumored to be a build from 2023. Thankfully there is no release date meaning that if they care so much as to address some of the criticism, then there is a chance of a decent game.

Agreed, Resident Evil remakes worked with changing from fixed camera angles to over-the-shoulder, but I don't think Silent Hill doing it is a good idea considering how the fixed camera angles were almost always a stylistic choice for SH.
Overhated? It's one of if not the most beloved game by fans ever. Not like most of us expected Bloober to handle this with respect. They promised not to "miss the point" but that's all they're doing......it is what it is: a cash grab because Konami saw Capcom's success.

Combat was never a memorable part of Silent Hill games. It was always janky and bad. So to make a trailer focused on combat doesn't capture the essence of the original game. It leads a viewer to come to the conclusion that perhaps Bloober is missing the point of what makes this a memorable video game. You can make a combat trailer but it shouldn't precede a trailer showing the story and characters.

Qte’s are in RE4 remake and dead space remake and nobody complains about that but when SH2 gets it,it’s the end of the world

Now I've heard 2 opinions about the interior design - some people love the darkness and think it is dirty like the Ps2 OG; and on the other hand like you said - not enough slime and dirt. Idk looks fine to me, besides I just want to try and make the camera go under Maria's skirt
I think it’s down to preference I do see why people like the new style, as the graphic/textures do look good but I kinda prefer the old style.
Like I say in the video, everyone is really overreacting about this and I do think the game is gonna be good (hopefully no game braking bugs)

As someone who actually often prefers remakes (Resident Evil 3), I'm excited for this but cautious. And if anything I'm actually not at all against Bloober. They may not make the best original ips (*cough Layers of Fear*) but they're clearly passionate about Silent Hill and seem to be taking into account what fans want.
I've only played a fewish hours of the original Silent Hill 2, and just like Resi 4 (and retroactively with RE2 and RE3)I plan on playing the original Silent Hill 2 before remake. I wish people would let Bloober just work on things instead of freaking out
i just want my friends and family to enjoy it too, most people won't play a 20 year old game so it's nice to have a remake, even if it won't be perfect.

Thank you for a nuanced opinion. I mean, it looks fine. It is a combat trailer. The game won't be this much smashing and shooting, and to be honest... There are way to much fighting even in the original four games. Try to walk for a minute without being mobbed by ghosts in SH4 for example. But the people that found the OG through endless of 4 hour essay videos don't even realize that the old games had so much flaws. None of them have aged gracefully. It's not surprising that they are trying to modernize those aspects in the remake. Don't matter how much shit these man babies says on the internet. If the remake sucks, no one is holding us at gunpoint forcing us to play it. Let's hope for the best. I'm just glad that SIlent HIll are finally back.

Silent Hill and Resident Evil have always been similar. i love both and it seems to me that "hardcore" fans love even the weaker efforts of either franchise. Casual fans are more nostalgic than they'll ever admit. I'm optimistic about this remake whether or not it takes 2 more years lol especially if the combat looks a bit cheesy.. cause as you said.. the original wasn't really about smashing baddies

in regards to the combat, the fact that it was a focus of Bloober team at all shows a pretty intense misunderstanding of the games themes. It's less about james being overpowered and more about him being violent, and if you make the violence fun and accessible it creates issues with the narrative.

I think it’s important to note that for a lot of people, this is our fast access to play the game. Emulators and online ports are a process to set up, and to buy the og game and PS2 is pricey. And so for me personally I am excited to play as I love the music and survival horror genre as a whole. It also kind of makes me feel like I am a “lesser” video game fan when I see the comments under it filled with hate, disappointment and belittlement, when I am just excited to finally experience the game for myself.

The fixed camera angle is what makes it silent hill and unique in the original. It makes it cinematic, convey the scene, seeing the surroundings and the characters from different camera angles is unique. Nowadays every game is boring because all you can see is the back of the head. I prefer the fixed camera angles, really elevated the scenes for me which i wouldn't experience in a typical boring same old same old back of the head camera angle.
Bring back the cinematic fixed camera angles, make games great again.
3:40 Critiquing sound effects is not a "nit-picky" thing to do at all. Sound is one of the most important elements in achieving an immersive experience in both games and movies. Sound effects are EXTRA important in making a good horror game.

The Silent Hill 2 Remake is great.
I like how in the new trailer that James is more clean shaved(looks more like James) than the James we got in the first trailer. Than again Bloober team could add in the stubble from the first trailer which would disappoint me. I will give the devs the benefit of the doubt since the game is still in development. My only gripe is that the dead TV James is covered by a sheet. Feels odd trying to hide it. Don't have any real high hopes for it and I would have preferred a SH 1 or SH 3 remakes over 2 remake.
Since the release of Origins, the public reaction has always been like this, so no, it's no suprise to me that everyone is roasting the heck out of anything and everything. In my honest opinion, the series reached its peak very early with SH2 (although The Room is my personal favorite) and would basically doom the series to have an entry as good or, better artistically speaking. Realizing this early has helped me keep my expectations in check since the release of Origins, you cant always catch lightning in a bottle twice.
Having said that, I still look forward to the remake. It's clear from the trailer that there's still a lot of space for adjustments and polish, and I think having no release date is probably for the best. I dont want these future projects to fail, I want them to succeed, so I wish all involved the very best of luck 🙂
This remake is in a tough spot. Change too much, people will complain. Change nothing, people will complain and says it’s pointless. No one should expect the same impact as the original and maybe we will all be surprised by it.

I have faith that if they just tweak some of the stiff looking animations like James’ walking animation this could be a damn good remake, hopefully as good as the RE2 remake was. The way it modernized the game, while staying faithful to the original for the most part. I do love the visuals of it so far, looks amazing and they nailed the fog.

Some complaints feel a bit forced, but I think the negativity isn't coming from nowhere. Bloober have a spotty track record and this is the crown jewel of survival horror, only two original Team Silent members are involved, Konami's poor handling of the series for a very very long time, the atrocious availability of the franchise overall. The last official Silent Hill game was PT, which got cancelled and scrubbed from the PS store forever about ten years ago by now, and the few newest SH games have either been awful or very mixed in terms of reception, its all compounded and I think the astronomical expectations shouldn't be surprising.
I'd like it to be good, but things just look iffy right now.
The games combat looks fine, the shooting looks kind of bad and like a work in progress build.
I think pesonally the initial knee jerk reaction is due to it resembling a Homecoming remake during combat and like Silent Hill 2 (or Shattered Memories actually)during exploration scenes.
Man as long as it's an adult horror game for adults nd not another indie trash cash grab like garden of ban ban or poppy play time that the horror game industry has been neutered and reduced to... I wholeheartedly support it.

it's not about the action. the problem is that the camera shaking, the movements of james and of course the quick time events make it look like a silent hill homecoming rather than the silent hill 2 we know. if the game had a basic dodge mechanic, good camera placement and smarter enemy ai i wouldn't see a problem at all because it would add an additional sense of fear in making the player fear for their health status besides the atmosphere of the game. let's be real. james is a normal person, but not a punching bag lol

IMO, it's called a remake for a reason cause it's all not going to be the same. It's like RE4 Remake they changed somethings but not all which will probably be the same as the Remake for Silent Hill 2. I think its Dum to criticize a game that has not come out yet because there not giving the Devs a chance which is just stupid IMO. Yes, I agree with you that the game will come out and be find.
As long as the combat isn't a game of Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots like Homecoming where it felt like it took ages to beat even just one enemy, and James isn't flushed with enough ammo to steamroll every enemy, then so what if the damn combat is a bit more refined compared to the original? Combat in a horror game should at least be a little fun so when you decide to battle enemies, you feel some satisfaction in beating them. When it's just clunky and janky, it feels less like you're refusing to fight because of concerns about survival and more about concern of dying from boredom. If they can make sure that the enemies are just the right level of threatening and resources feel limited, then it should be fine. As for the other stuff like the environments, hopefully those will be improved as time goes on so things don't look clean unless it's an area where there wasn't any grime.
On the QTE thing, I don't mind those too much, but I would also say they could have just gone with the old fashioned "wiggle the analog stick" without using any onscreen prompt that some older horror games had. Hopefully they won't have invasive tutorial screens, or at least make sure to keep those optional/able to be toggled, and we should be good.
I can get where people are concerned, but it does seem silly to act like this trailer was the final nail in the coffin to a game that's probably not gonna out until either the end of year or early next year at the earliest.

Man RE has been my favorite games since 1998 and Silent hill is really dope too. I don't understand the comparisons when even alan wake too RE style too.. I think Silent Hill 2 will be fun and a good game. Like you said that was a combat trailer ofc its gonna show nothing but combat.
In terms of combat its clearly heavily inspired by the resident evil remakes except it looks distinctly very fast paced akin to re4 remake than re2. Re2 strikes a good balance between thrilling combat and a kind of slow burn. Here it all feels slightly too fast at least in my opinion. I am currently playing through silent hill 2 so i probably dont have the some ubderstanding if others but thats my opinion at least

I feel as though everyone is dog piling on to this way too quickly. I know it’s technically finished. But the lack of release date gives me hope that they’ll at least polish the heck out of it. If they need more time to completely change something. Then I’m more than happy to wait. Just gonna try to be optimistic about this one. I’m also sure that Bloober knows everyone is skeptical about them working on this game and really doesn’t want to screw it up. Would be a permanent stain on their reputation. So I choose to be optimistic.

A combat trailer for the remake in hindsight of the original game already existing and being known for mainly its atmosphere and story is the most Konami thing ever, "oh sh2? Yea, showcase combat, that's what the original is known for. Fans are gonna love it". Missing the point-maxxing.
The og devs stated clearly in interviews, James is an everyday man, they didn't want to portray some action hero or a war veteran, the remake doesn't convey that.
And yet James can swing around a big machete….. crazy…… people always complain. They do the same with RE.
There is absolutely zero chance that the remake will be anywhere near as good as the original. The art direction, atmosphere and especially the storytelling will take a MASSIVE hit compared to original. And btw I'm absolutely not opposed to the idea of remaking this game, but not by god damn Bloober Team, they are the last studio I would ever want to touch this project.

Im hyped for 4 games for 2024, FF7, Stellar Blade, Outlaws, & Silent Hill. I dont see anything else thats for 2024 worth my cash. Quick time is in last of us 1 & 2 when grabbed so is what it is that dont bother me. I like the atmosphere nailed, i like the shooting, im not worried, but 70 is a bit much. Waiting on a sale
it's certainly not a great trailer but in its defense, the gameplay was rumored to be a build from 2023. Thankfully there is no release date meaning that if they care so much as to address some of the criticism, then there is a chance of a decent game.

Although i agree with you, sadly alot of people complained of the originals having tanky controls and fixed camera angles, not everyone appreciated that that was exactly the point and it contributed to the horror..
Agreed, Resident Evil remakes worked with changing from fixed camera angles to over-the-shoulder, but I don't think Silent Hill doing it is a good idea considering how the fixed camera angles were almost always a stylistic choice for SH.

Combat was never a memorable part of Silent Hill games. It was always janky and bad. So to make a trailer focused on combat doesn't capture the essence of the original game. It leads a viewer to come to the conclusion that perhaps Bloober is missing the point of what makes this a memorable video game. You can make a combat trailer but it shouldn't precede a trailer showing the story and characters.
