No backing vocals, no harmonies, this track is all Dany!
This song was a writing assignment for young Dany while at the Berklee College of Music. She was terribly homesick, so this song welled up out of her. You should see her solo acoustic performance of this song in her hometown of Monterrey recently. The adoring home crowd caused her to become emotional on stage, so she had to pause her performance briefly.

Song written in 2015 by a 15 y/o Dany when the band was in berklee for a 5 weeks summersessions. she had to write a song for a class lesson . She was homesick and in the night she wrote this

IMHO, Dany wrote a perfect rock song...hell, a perfect song...when she was 15 years old. I never tire of it hearing it. It always hits me deeply. It is timeless. This version, with the lighting concept, was my favorite from the moment I saw it live while watching the stream of this concert. I waited for it to be released in their Patreon, and the pro shot video just added a whole other level of perfection. If you loved this, then at some point, you're going to have to watch some Dany Day Midnight Shows she did during the pandemic. It's just Dany and her guitar sharing songs in incredibly intimate performances with the fans and they are heartfelt, beautiful, joyful and deeply moving. Great reaction to a very special moment in The Warning's legendary rise.

This is a power arrangement. It is simplified over the original, and I daresay that I prefer it to the original.
DPA's music is great and beautiful, among other things, because of the various details that its creations contain.
Some of these details may go unnoticed in general but they are an essential part of shaping their musical expressions into masterpieces of true art.
In "WIA" some of those details are notable, such as the fact that the song's lyrics talk about "loneliness" and that is why Dany begins to sing alone, immersing all of us in that very appropriate atmosphere of isolation.
But the details are just as important, which is why not providing the lyrics of the song with choruses or harmonies manages to round out Dany's "solitude" in a sublime way.

This is Dany's song. No backing vocals on this, just Dany's voice and the instruments. Written at the young age of 15 by Dany when she was homesick. It is a masterpiece of great song writing. I consider this to be one of their best songs. Great reaction.
this is Dany's song... Ale and Pau accompany with only their instruments... no harmonies or backing vocals... the blacked out solo beginning and ending with Dany alone in the spotlight is beautiful and quite fitting for this song and what it represents...
Dany wrote this when the girls were at Berklee Music College in Boston back in 2015 attending the summer session they offer(ed)... she got very homesick and also had a homework task to write a song... she hadn't any ideas, time was running out, and being homesick was devastating... she recorded a teary vlog about it... afterward she realized she could harness the emotions and pain she was feeling to write her song... i haven't heard what grade she got for it but many of us hope it was an A+... Dany has also stated several times that when she writes a song, it is from her heart and whatever emotions she is feeling at the time... so here we are enjoying this truly heartfelt song of loneliness and heartache...
speaking of Berklee Music College, their concert at "Liceo" (basically Spanish for "learning place" or "high school") had multiple purposes... for one purpose, the story is that they needed something to submit to Berklee showing Ale's and Pau's chops and how well they played their instruments... this because both of them were less than 15 years old which is/was the age cut off for the summer program they were wanting to attend... so each of them chose a song to show off their talents... IIRC, those songs were "Hysteria" for Ale, "Everlong" for Pau, and "Crazy Train" for Dany but i may be off on those... old brain and all that stuff LOL anyway, apparently BMC accepted their submissions because all three girls attended at the same time... while they were there they did vlogs to send to Ellen DeGeneres to keep her and her show up to date on how they were doing while at BMC... this because Ellen and Target gave each of the girls a check to help pay for them to attend the summer session at BMC...

The lyrics to "When I'm Alone" are a very dense and powerful description of someone faking it while secretly being depressed and isolated, and you'd guess is had to be written by an older person over the course of days or months. In reality it was written overnight by a very homesick and stressed out 15yo Dany who had to present it as a solo homework assignment the next day, during the last week of the girls 6-week stay at the Berklee School of Music in the summer of 2015. She desparately missed her friends back home, and was spending all day in English-only classes where she was the youngest student (her sisters attended separate classes). Also at the time her English wasn't as polished, and she sometimes stumbled trying to get her thoughts out. Despite the imposing deadline, and writing in her second language, she somehow managed to write a timeless masterpiece that perfectly described her situation in such a way that it deeply resonates with anyone who's been in a similar situation. Also known as "Dany's Song" by the fan base.
Leaves you speechless doesn't it. Too good! The live show this year in Monterrey breaks your heart when Dany sings this solo with just her, guitar, and the wonderful crowd. BTW I agree with you on Fade to Black.

I, along with most of TWA I’m assuming, can’t wait for the pro shot version of WIA to come out from their recent Mexican shows.
Hopefully they use the Monterrey performance.
Dany’s WIA from Monterrey and Pau’s Breathe from CDMX are destined to become legendary performances because they showcase the passion TW play with each and every show but especially in their home country.
After 10 years as a band their performances still mean as much to them as they did when they first started. That’s special!

First of all, I love your channel your enthusiasm for these girls is very heartwarming, but if you want to love them, even more than we all love them, you have to check out some of their intimate shows. They have a quarantine show that they performed in their basement called the cave. They felt so bad that they had to cancel Two tours and a lot of events because of Covid that they did a concert in the cave. It’s intimate it’s funny it’s goofy mom brings them water they have inside jokes with each other. Dany and Pau throw Ale under the bus.they make her sing!! It’s great how many bands would perform like this with mistakes and things not perfect for their fans because they felt bad that they weren’t able to play for them

This was a cool change from the original and yes it's more emotional however the solo acoustic in the 3 shows from this year in Mexico are over the top emotional and beautiful. 🥲 Loved the stop you made when Dany's solo was starting and Ale and Pau were sharing a moment behind her it was nice to see all 3 in that shot. There have been several versions of this song performed. Most recently, Dany does a fully acoustic version. Originally, Ale and Pau came in much earlier. It is Dany's song, one that she wrote completely. Ale and Pau do not sing backing vocals on it. It is just Dany. Alone. Fitting. I think the are profoundly aware of symbolism in their songwriting.

This song is one of my favorites.
My work has me traveling for up to 6 mos at a time . I come home literally twice a year for 2 weeks so when Dany is starts this song all by herself ( alone) it really hits a weak spot.

This song is all Dany's. You will not hear Pau or Ale backing voices ever. I have read that Dany has said it means something different to her now.
Just found your channel. I’m right there with you brother, this is one of the very few songs that hits me right in the gut. The lyrics she wrote can be related to by pretty much anyone, and her singing and guitar playing just adds to that element for me.
