8 minutes of calm Dutch-English comments to a working vintage hacksaw just before bedtime is quite ok. I think I'll sleep well to night.

I have a Craftsman power hacksaw and a South Bend 7” shaper. I like to get them both going and drift into a semi state of consciousness lulled by the symphony of the duet.

If you make up a blade holder that will fit in the tool head, you can use the shaper for saw cutting while the power hacksaw is down for repairs. It's a bit fiddly to figure out, but if you use extreme care in getting the cut started right, you can get some very accurate results from it. It won't be fast, but if you are a winded old fart like me, it still beats cutting by hand.

Man, I love those saws. They're great.
Not sure I'd be happy hanging a chuck like that off a piddly little spindle, though. That's supposed to go on a spindle with a through hole that more or less matches its centre bore, that's gotta be what - 50mm? Something like an L0 spindle nose. That kind of weight is liable to be "not friendly" to your spindle's bearing surface at startup, before the oil's had time to get it all hydrodynamic.

    • @Rolingmetal

I think the chuck is about the same size as my old 3 jaw scroll chuck. Perhaps even a bit lighter.

you can rotate the workpiece in the vice to cut larger stock, that way you can keep the blade working in the top quarter,,,, nice video, I'm sitting outside in the Portuguese sunshine after a satisfying morning of reassembly of a prehistoric Portuguese power hacksaw, it's an Osis, made in Ovar , Portugal.

      @@davidlammas3629
Hi David, that would work to help and minimise the number of teeth in contact at once. It would be a bit of a fiddle to line up multiple cuts perfectly. Sounds like a great way to snap a blade if they don’t line up close enough. :)
However you still need the blade to span the full diameter sooner or later to cut the middle out even if all the teeth are not in contact.
