    I always thought Bane pulled this scheme because he wanted to see Batman as not a mythical, unstoppable, creature of the night, but a man who can get tired and overwhelmed just like anyone else. In my opinion, the scheme actually makes sense because it's about Bane proving to himself that Batman is a human being who can be broken, not the boogeyman he used to have nightmares about as a child. I still love this video though Mr. Rogues. :)

      Yeah. He wanted to destroy the myth of Batman because the bat creature Bane saw in his dreams is what Bruce wants criminals to see the Batman persona as. An unstoppable supernatural bat creature that punishes criminals.

      I think since Bane also grew up in a prison where only the strong survive and you get respect for being the strongest, most dangerous guy in there Bane saw Batman as Gotham's top dog and saw beating him as proving his superiority.

    • @katemoss6456
      @katemoss6456 4 роки тому +2

      its even simpler than that... a prisoner came into the prison where Bane was at and Hyped Batman up to Bane so it became Banes sole purpose in life to conquer this "Batman"... plus he has nightmares of bats so he's conquering his fears too lol

      Bane is one of the best villain of all time next to the Joker. Sad that most media don’t portrayed Bane as like in this comic review video.

    Just some ideas on what some other rogues would be up to after being freed during Knightfall.
    Killer Moth: Selling firearms, grenades and other resources to high-scale mobsters like Penguin and Black Mask through a control tank he hijacked, he also supplies his deadly goods to thugs and rioters out on the street to prolong the chaos. He actively calls out Batman to face him, seeing himself as an Anti-Batman after all.
    Ratcatcher: Immediately goes to the sewers and masses an army of sewers rats in the thousands and then intentionally infects his rats with multiple diseases he stole from a research facility to spread a plague of biblical proportions throughout Gotham.
    Calendar Man: Actively tries to find Batman so that he can murder him as part of his plan to create a new holiday, a holiday so infamous that no one would forget it's date that holiday being "Dead Bat Day", the day that he killed The Bat. Helping him on his mission is the equally date obsessed Calendar Girl.

    "Knightfall" is one of my favorite Batman stories, so it's disappointing when reviewers usually just talk about the Bane and Azreal portions. Batman having to take down his deadliest foes one at a time is part of what makes this arc so great. I'm very glad you discussed the smaller portions of the saga.
    Since you didn't mention it, what did you think of "God of Fear"? A great Scarecrow story in my opinion.

  • @spencermalley10

    6:44 It really is a pity they never thought to do a similar type of story with Black Mask, having him come to believe Bruce Wayne's public persona is a metaphorical mask hiding something and discovering Batman's secret identity.
    I'm talking classic Black Mask, not skull-face, sadist Black Mask.

    Personally I prefer Poison Ivy as a self-righteous ecoterrorist over the green focused anti-hero she's written as now. In particular when Swamp Thing and poison Ivy are supposed to be contrasting characters.

    Oh god I just nerdgasm'd!!!! I LOVE Knightfall, and its even better that my favourite UA-camr is reviewing the series! I'd love to see the part 2 and 3. In my opinion, this is one of the best stories in the Batman universe to date, the sheer terror that comes from knowing that all of Gotham's rogues have escaped is absolutely amazing, and the fact that Bane breaks Bruce's back is so... I don't know how to put it? Cool?!? XD
    Anyway, you know the deal, great f*cking video as always, and I was so glad this was a 25 minute video!!!!!! These longer videos are great as they always contain great synopses and analyses from you! Keep em coming brother!

But you do give it an cinematic atmospheric quality to it... Through background music... Slown zoom and pans and especially your slow narration over crisp comic panels... Hats off to you for that... And also your opening music.👌😉🎶🎶🎶🎧❤️👍😘😎😎

    Makes me wish someone would write a similar story for the flash. All the criminals break out of iron heights, flash and kid flash race all over the city to recapture them all and the mystery villain behind the break out (grodd) reveals himself, confronts barry out of costume and nearly kills him. Rest of the story focuses on wally (original and new 52 version) as they battle grodd, who has taken over central city, while barry is recovering. Throughout the arc, we get spotlight stories on each member of the Rogues as they operate on their own, as there are very few stories about the Rogues individually (aside from some Geoff johns issues and stories from the bronze and silver age). We also get a new Backstory for gorilla grodd, depicting him as a more sympathetic figure.
    His bloodlust stems from losing his mate to poachers, who took her to a government lab, where she was subjected to painful experiments. This was after gaining their intelligence, and creating gorilla city.
    He tracks down the scientists and force them to take him to her. In a scene straight from star wars ep 2, grodd finds his mate, but she is already dead. The only thing that remains is her cage. Grodd goes into a rage, kills the scientists and vows to conquer the human world, for all of his kind. However, the flash stops him and their rivalry begins. This leads to the events of the main series, where grodd uses the criminals of central to weaken flash and once barry is exhausted, grodd will strike.
    The title of this story is Blitzkrieg and it is the definitive grodd story.

    I would love to see another mass-breakout of the Bat-Rogues at some point that is treated with just as much respect as this one was, if not more so, if only because it would be nice to see more modern writers (Paul Dini, Gail Simone, Tom King, etc...) tackle such a storyline.

      Right now a lot of the time it seems like people use Arkham breakouts as plot-fodder and have Batman take them down very quickly, which isn’t very realistic considering that one on one the villains usually give him trouble. It seems like Knightfall is one of the only stories that got that right. It honestly doesn’t bother me too much though, but it happens in Kings of Fear #1 and Batman #70 in recent memory

    If they made an Arkham game based on Knightfall they'd have to portray Bane similarly to how he was in Arkham Origins. I love the idea of having to play through the Wayne Manor fight between Batman and Bane which ends up in the Batcave. It would be an unwinnable fight obviously where no matter what you do Bane still breaks Batman's back.

    First of all: somehow I either missed the fact you've made a horror-themed channel, or worse yet, forgot. MUST SUBSCRIBE!
    Second of all: I really like the way you went through this story rogue-by-rogue (not unlike Batman, come to think of it), looking at how each one is portrayed and how their respective tales and arcs fit into the overarching series. I've actually always wanted to see somebody tackle Knightfall this way, looking at the various characters (especially the villains, because they are such a big part of this arc, in particular) and how they fit into the story like puzzle pieces. And, for the most part, I think I agree with your feelings on the whole...excepting Bane. Rather than "a cowardly cheater," what I got out of his plan was something much more strategic. Let's consider this very briefly: if he's become so obsessed with Batman, then Bane probably knows the Dark Knight has taken on opponents almost as strong, if not equally strong, if not STRONGER, than Bane himself. He knows that Batman may not be a physical match, but definitely has some mental chops to him that could aid him. By weakening Batman this way, he taunts Batman with his own mortality, tests just how far the man can go, and more importantly, assures himself victory. He thinks like a soldier: you DON'T want to give the enemy a fighting chance. You want to find the best way to defeat them, plain and simple. And, if you're an intimidating and sadistic villain on top of that, getting a chance to topple them so utterly and rub in their faces how "disappointing" they are is just your cup of tea.
    Anyway, other than that, like I said, I feel I agree with you wholeheartedly as far as how the other major rogues are depicted, as well as how their stories go. I've been waiting a while on this review, and it didn't disappoint! Honestly, I think it's one of your best videos yet. So bravo to you! :)

    • @mr.rogues4145
      @mr.rogues4145  7 років тому +6

      Haha ;)
      interesting point of view! Another commenter said basically the same thing. I guess I havent really considered the 'strategic military' aspect of the character. Not sure why, it's certainly displayed in Dark Knight Rises, especially as a visual motiff. I've never been that crazy about Bane, just like Ra's al Ghul, so maybe that's why I havent thought too deeply about him. Anyway, thanks for the input!
      Glad you think it's one of my best videos, it makes it worthwhile, becasue this one was a b*tch to make too.. It's these damn long ones.. :P

    Great video ! I'm just wondering what your opinion is on the scarecrow story shortly after the Harvey one I believe. Its been awhile since I read it, but I'm pretty sure it was connected to the whole events from Knightfall. I remember it being one of my favorite Scarecrow stories, though a lot of it may have had to do with the art and the fact I wasn't really that satisfied with his whole section previously with the Joker. It, along with Zsasz and the Ventriloquist's stories were my favorites.

    • @freddyvsmario64
      @freddyvsmario64 7 років тому +1

      Sorry,Correction to my last post. just re read the whole Knightfall part, totally forgot Scarecrow and Joker broke up after Batman was already broken, and that it was Jean Paul who fought him in God of Fear. Still Interested in what you thought of it though. Also I take back about not being satisfied with the whole Joker & Scarecrow team up. Idk why I didn't like it when I first read it, but I really liked them together this time around. Its fun to see Crane more carefree and just eating a bag of chips while trying to bring Gotham to his knees. Really besides Poison Ivy's section, I really loved the stories with all the other rogues, even Two-Face, even if its placement kind of screws things up.

    2:15 Bane Makes Batman Scream.

  • @Psycopathicus
    @Psycopathicus 7 років тому +3

    I think the idea behind Bane's fight with Batman is that he considers it a battle of strategy, not a matter of a fair fight between combatants. He's always had a vague military/commando aspect to him, anyway, and he studied such things while in prison - so it makes sense for him to plan it all out like a military campaign, with Batman as the opposing 'general'. And going by that logic, it IS sort of a fair fight - he made the first attack by blowing up Arkham, then waited for his opponent to counter it, which he was unable to. Ergo, he beats the crap out of him and wins.
    Incidentally, I was wondering - do you know if 'Knightfall' has been fully collected as of yet? I mean, I know the main part of the storyline has been available in TPB form for years - I own them - but they don't include either the 'prelude' bits (where Bats fights the Riddler, first meets Bane, Azrael fights the 'Metalhead' goon, etc.) or the main part of the 'Knightquest' follow-up, prior to Bruce meeting up with Lady Shiva. Are there any editions that collect those parts, that you're aware of?

Just wished tweedle dee and dumb was in the story, and maybe a few others. Arkham war was similar but it was short and got boring fast I just liked seeing all the villains . I also didn't care for the two face show case books. Been better of it showed them in order like the others instead of a backflash.

    I feel like Bane wore Batman out because he wanted to destroy his fear. Bane was terrified of Bats and Batman was the sort of living embodiment of his fear. If people had the ability to destroy their feared creatures who would actually want a fair fight? I’m gonna be real here if I had to fight a clown I would find ways to beat the clown quickly so I don’t have to deal with it for too long. I don’t want a fair fight for that... I don’t want the clown to have a chance for an upper hand. Unhoborable or not.

    Actually in I Am Bane. After Bane defeats all of Batmans rogues he didnt seem any where near as tired as batman was in knightfall. And it didnt take him 3 days to do it either.

      Viktorija Ilesku ...i also never understood that batman time frame either and been collecting batman when Jason Todd was killed. Till this date i never knew why no one got older such such as the Robins etc. But now with the rebirth series and new 52 that past....everything is suppossed to be new again. I still love these older issues for some reason...but the wish Batman was older.

      Blockbuster I was dead at that point, and Blockbuster II was too smart to be manipulated, plus he was busy being the biggest crime lord in Blüdhaven at the time.

    I never liked the Knightfall storyline. It seemed like such an obvious money grab, along the lines of "Death of Superman." I don't think Kelley Jones's art is a good match for Batman. Jim Aparo's art is usually great but only when he does his own inks. That so many different artists with varying styles were used also prevented an overall consistent feel for the saga imo. The only thing I liked about Knightfall era was the introduction of Azrael. I don't believe the "Sword of Azrael" min-series by Denny O'Neil is included in the omnibuses. Is it? I also think the theme of breaking Batman had already been explored in "Blind Justice" by Sam Hamm, a much superior story imo.

      I personally feel like the art style works quite well, but i agree about the inconsistency of artstyle was a bit of an issue for me as well. What exactly makes "blind justice" better than the knightfall series? Ive never read it but id like to read it.
      I like the first volume of knightfall a lot personally but i dislike knightquest volume one honestly (Azrael is just too much of an idiot as batman). Im about to read volume 2, hopefully its better.
      Edit: I also dislike Kelley Jones's coverart, it just looks weird to me.
