Yeah, onomappu-san speaks clearly. But i can't understand another youtubers. They are speaking too fast or omiting so much, that i can't get it. Please, onomappu-san, give us an advice how to deal with it!!!

I can confirm this wasn't a "regular conversation between Japanese people" because unlike when my coworkers talk, I understood it all haha
In person it's a lot harder, people who understand 80% from a video won't understand even half in person much less on the phone.
@@_console Perhaps because decent quality recording can actually sometimes be really clear, compared to real life with all the noise and whatnot. A good microphone and audio processing software will make sure you don't get any unwanted noise, less weird acoustics (even more so in a properly set up recording room) and crystal clear audio, picking up all the frequencies (more and/or better) you otherwise might not hear for a "pure" sound, dulling those that would give a muffled sound and amplifying the others. Though it depends if it's a microphone for speaking, singing, recording sounds, etc... sometimes you want to equalize some frequencies and sometimes you want the audio as accurate and natural as possible. And also because subconsciously you'll likely try to "speak better" even if you want to sound "normal" while having the knowledge of being recorded.

@@TruPunx89alk with a native or watch animation dubbed. Peppa Pig is a joke, when I watched the Mexican version, I couldn’t understand why some kids like it. The only American cartoons I like in Mexican Spanish are A Regular Show, Hey Arnold, As told by Ginger, Craig of the creek and Gravity Falls. A Regular show has lots of slangs and that’s how many Mexicans talk informally. Any animated show that “helps learning a language” sucks. When I was able to understand English, I took English classes, I watched Hey Arnold and As told by Ginger cartoons because I wanted to check how the American versions were. They helped me a lot to identify expressions and think more with words.
@@ninokikira3623 in the Netherlands there are not many native spanish people around lol. Craig of the kreek is a good idea to watch! I have watched peppa pig in 3 languges and loved them all. So maybe its also a bit about taste?
I also think i need more spanish influences then the europeian spanish. But thats so closeby that I automatically watch and listen to more of that. Learning a third language is fun and for as long as im having fun i am not really bothered by my speed of learning or my level 🙂 thanks for the advice!

@@chuchu5923 ...or just having a *very* informal short conversation between two friends, in real life...people don't speak like they do in anime in real life, and they didn't here either. Just very casually, informal and short...
i am not learning japanese so i still didnt understand him. i only understood words like onigiri and imagi or smth i dont know what was that. but i already knew its smth about imagination and pudingo too cuz it sounds like pudding and etc.

You havn't watched enough animes (movies included) then, because some of them do feature fairly modern (or modern-ish), normal, real-sounding conversations between students and such, including modern slangs, idioms, casual and formal speech. Not everything in anime is nekketsu shounen UUUURRRYYYAAAAAA scream offs or overly serious historical drama, bubbly moe characters bouncing everywhere, justice obssessed MCs preaching about the power of friendship or borderline chuuni machiavellian villains who get your next door hikikomori fujoshi drooling.
It's all about experience. The more you read, and the more you listen, the easier it gets and the better you become.

@@RANDAMULOL yeah thats pretty much it for every language. At some point you'll understand everything. Thats what i did for english ( its my second language). I watched english videos and read comments for almost 10 years my grammar can suck but it tends to happen when your real life doesnt contain the language you want to learn... When you get the chance to live in a country with the language you want to learn thats when you can perfect it.
@@shadowreaper4970 so even if u dont understand it just read it, or maybe if ur listening to music try catch some letters, by listening to KANESHI URESHI by FREDERIC a few times (just passed by cuz y not) i learnt those two words meaning (in order) sad and happy (not sure i can try confirm it, i mean it was the subtitles)
@@RANDAMULOL Sorry i explained it terrible i didnt meant listening is enough. It definitely helps for learning new words but is not enough. First learn how to make a proper sentence with grammar rules just like how we learned a second language in school. You had to learn the core of a language then you can improve day by day year by year by listening and reading. For example in school the average conversation that they tought us was " -how are you ? + fine thanks and you ?" like who the hell even talks like that. But even that weird sentence had an impact on learning that language. So the only thing i learned from school was the core but it was enough to improve myself on that language. After years you will understand almost everything in a sentence you hear. Even if you hear a new words you never heard before you will give it a meaning from the sentence. At some point you will get really good at the language , you will learn new words by just searching them for once. Like i learned the definition of "despondent" a month ago from a song and now i remember this word and i dont think i will ever forget it. So imo hardest part is starting to learn. Years laters you will accelerate so much that you will be shocked by how fast you can learn new words in that language. Also even though i tried to explain i might have been failed terribly after all i cant explain as good as my native tongue. Sorry for the long comment and grammar mistakes. I'm Indonesian, and hearing the casual form I can tell that its basically just a lot of shortening the already casual form of the words and phrases, slangs are more common and just making certain words disappear because people will understand anyway. This is very similar to actual casual form of Indonesian so l caught on pretty quickly to what was going on luckily. I still don't know much about Japanese but I assume that this is the gist of how the casual form works right?
From what I know from the book "grammar guide" by tae Kim and limited under n5 knowledge . The casual verbs just loose -masu suffix, some specific words are omitted or substituted or short end(ん だよ is nande da yo).
This is similar in all languages I think, in
Danish it is the same but the devoicing, shortening, and gutteral stops are used in "formal speech"(formal speech is only used for mentioning the queen)
also the written form differs a lot from the pronunciation :
Det er fint at skulle skifte banneret ud (it is ok/(or needs to be done), to change the banner)
This becomes this in casual speak :
det fint at sku skifde banert u.
It is even more horrendous in the dialect of jysk.
I have newer been able to easily comprehend what a foreigner talks about in standard Danish which is sad.
In Singapore, we converse by shortening and omitting words especially particles in English sentences. We call it Singlish.
e.g
English: Can I go to the toilet?
Singlish: I go toilet can?
@@Kindaichi83 In American English, we tend to combine meanings as short-hand. For instance, "Where's the bathroom?" Is simultaneously asking for directions as well as permission. Though you can also shorten that to just a gesture/facial expression and saying "bathroom?"

너무 걱정마세요. 학교,학원, 어느 무리에서 자신을 비교하지마세요 제가 외국으로 나가기 위해 유학원 등 많이다녔는데 외국가서는 또 다르더라구요. 외국 아니면 안 늘거라는 말이 아닙니다.
사람마다 속도가 다르고 결국 언어는 순위를 나누기 위함이 아니라 소통이 중요한 것이라서 너무 침울해 하지 않으셔도 돼요. 그리고 꾸준함이 답입니다 그렇게 열심히 하던 사람들도 갑자시 1달,1주,1년 안하면 다시 기본으로 돌아가더라구요.
사실 저 말은 서양쪽 타겟인거같긴한데... ㅋㅋ 뭐 옆나라여도 외국어를 한다는건 대단한거죠

In my case I have learned how to understand conversations because of anime but I am trash at writing and reading 😥😅.
Though I think the best way to learn Japanese is to get a teacher.

2018年から日本語を学んで読解力、聴解力、文章構え詞力この三つは十分上手く出来ましたけど..周りに日本語で会話する相手が全然いなくて喋ることだけ出来なくて悩んだりしてました
でもonomappuさんの動画を偶然見てあなたのアドバイスの通りに、日本語に話す時は単語一つ一つを思い出すとするより、母国語を経由せずに頭の中のイメージを思い出しながらすぐ口に出すように喋ると努力したから信じられないほどに日本語を喋るのが上手になりました..独り言や頭の中で考える時も日本語で出来るほどです

I've been learning Japanese for a few years but I never took it seriously til a few months ago, I'm using this video as a benchmark now. as of Feb 2023, I could understand like 80% of the individual words but it was still hard to gather meaning from more than 50% of the speech, at least in the conversation section. I'll come back to this soon and update it once I'm better!

This was great as much as i could lift out words and phrases I would have been lost without subtitles this is better that the one dimensional conversations you often find. we need more of this
Watching V-tubers talk to each other has prepared me for this.
Genuinely, you are the BIGGEST help in learning Japanese. Song-writing is so much harder when you have to take into account colloquial phrasing, and you make it so easy to pick up.

I've always noticed that my comprehension drops quite a bit when I'm listening rather than reading. I understood almost everything, but there were a few moments where I had to second guess myself because of the way words were slurred. Anyways, great video! Your friend seems really nice :)
This is really helpful, there aren't enough resources of actual real casual conversation for the purpose of learning available out there, imo.
now that I think about it, it's really cool that I can understand a lot of what's being said even if it's very different from my native language (Portuguese)

As a Finn, just hearing you talk about studying in a sauna baffles me, but... I've done it too. When I was in confirmation school (a Finnish Lutheran tradition you do at the ages of 14-15), I went into a cold sauna to study some biblical things. It worked. I remembered all of them by the evening, and even a year later xd
I imagine the sauna is a bit different than the ones in Finland (I may be wrong, someone correct me in this case)

after 4 years of learning japanese i was able to watch this and understand everything.

i was on my phone replying to text's and looking at memes lol.
I think what I've realized from videos like this is that while I understand Japanese pretty well when I hear it, I struggle to actually hold conversations and have no idea how I would actually respond if I tried to hold a similar conversation. I have a very hard time organizing my thoughts and putting them into words. Then again, English is my native language and I have similar struggles. Maybe I just suck at communicating. I even re-typed this comment three or four times to get exactly what I wanted to say, into words, in my own native language.
I feel you on a personal level… My first language is mandarin and I’m fluent in English because I’ve been living in an English speaking country for more than a decade now. But then sometimes I feel like I can’t express my ideas in either language…. For a long time I have been feeling that the problem lies in the communication part but not the fluency part.
I have that exact problem, and it's not really a language thing. It's just the way your brain (doesn't) works.
Same. I’ve only ever been immersed in Japanese for one summer, otherwise, it’s all learning on my own or a few hours a week in a class. My reading and listening comprehension is way above my speaking because it’s so much easier to practice. It’s largely from lack of experience with back and forth conversation on varying subjects for me. If I had the opportunity to speak on the spot everyday, even struggling through the conversations, I think I’d be so much more comfortable and able to reply back much easier.

Sure, if you speak with such a steady flow and not too fast I can understand the gist of the conversation.
I find it incredible when I hear Japanese students say they are making no progress preparing for upcoming exams but they are still putting out 6~7 hours of studying per day even though class are actually over. I remember having the exact same kind of conversation with my friends back when I was in university, but when I said I was making no progress it meant I was lazing off all day and in the end cramming it all on the last few days before the exam. I admire how hard working Japanese people are.
Also concerning the "yolk only purin" it’s another thing I just love with the Japanese language: it’s so easy to make puns and double meaning with how lots of words sound the same but have different meaning depending on the writing. I love to make puns or dajare (駄洒落) in my native language so it’s something I picked up fast when I started to absorb Japanese through anime, I remember my amazement when I realized all the double meaning behind Zoro's attack in One Piece.

I've already pre-registered for the classes, but my level of spoken Japanese being so far beyond what I can actually write properly... It was extremely hard for me to evaluate my current level.
I picked N4 because I'm not sure I can confidently say I know 200 kanji... But I also understood all of this video without looking, so... It's hard to say.

Поняла этот звонок очень хорошо, если разобраться и перечитать ещё раз, то можно даже посмеяться над моментом с пудингом (он оказался забавным, как по-мне, но в хорошем смысле забавным). Поняла диалог хорошо, но недостаточно хорошо, потому что это было на другом языке. Многие слова в другой культуре имеют другое значение, поэтому тяжело разговаривать и понимать друг друга совсем идеально людям из разных стран

I can understand about 95% without subtitles, but that's because I grew up in the UK with lots of Japanese friends and spoke with them in Japanese. Out of the vocabulary in this video, I can probably speak only about 60-70%. However, I grew up speaking Cantonese, so there are a lot of similar words that I can understand purely from similarity which helps me a lot. Hoping to study a bit more Japanese before I visit japan again!
Dude i'm a believer in Obenkyo + Duolingo as i understood most of it and what it went over my head i was able to translate it on the fly by looking at the kanji. Thanks for doings this kind of videos of real japanese. Immersion is truly the best way of learning

just found this video randomly and even though I had the subtitles up turning around and looking away I was able to tell fairly easily when you guys were talking about the snacks and trying to have your friend guess them

i study japanese through google and anime, i find that i learn much faster when im familiar with the sound. i don't have the balls to study kanji rn but im still glad i understood 80% of the video. the clearness of your pronounciation really helped !

Love this video, more like this please. It's difficult to find casual Japanese to learn from. Whenever I speak to native Japanese friends, I'm told that I'm too polite. But in reality I can't find any good resources for casual learning.
How is it hard? There are literally infinite number of videos on UA-cam. Pretty sure you can find vids of Japanese people conversing about any topic you can think of
