- That's right! Barnabus Jones of Tuba Skinny fame plays cornet with this mini superband, and does a nice job. This was a benefit performance on Royal Street for a musician friend on April 17, 2017 with competition from rain showers.

As a great fan of Tuba Skinny, I am absolutely delighted to see this wonderful video for the first time.
Wow, what beautiful phrasing and such a great tune. I wish we knew for sure what song it was. Could be "Donde Estas Corazon," but very different from Tuba Skinny's arrangement. I love the rhythms here and could listen to stuff like this all day.

Great tone, rhythm and beautiful melody from Barnabus' cornet. He knows when to keep it simple, which becomes much more when it's played right. And I gotta hand it to him, he didn't try to pull the trombone slide even once ! lol. That's Aaron "Mr. Gunn" playing the fiddle. Typical Dizzy , with a cigarette dangling from her mouth. Syncopated puffing might add to the rhythm.
Indeed Barnabus' quiet play gives the whole tune a very pleasant sound.
Well, after Shaye mastered the trombone, nothing surprises any more. Fine cornet control and tone from Barnabus. And - as well as being one of the very best jazz trombonists - he's also good on the violin, and not a bad singer! Great to see Dizzy and Todd participating too. Thanks for filming, jazzbo43.
He is indeed a damn good trombonist.
Shaye can do anything musical better than most who only do that. For example she plays piano better than almost all other Jazz piano players.
Now it seems that so can Barnabas. With this flexibility Shaye could play her other instruments more which some songs seem to call for.

It's good to see Matt Bell on guitar. I didn't see him playing anywhere during FQF this year. He is one of my favorites. He has a great singing voice also.

+The Blue River Jazz Band Music This is not "Siboney" and doesn't even sound remotely like it. "Siboney" is a Cuban song, written by Ernesto Lecuona. This ain't Cuban music, even though it has the classic Latin habanera Caribbean beat and sound that Jelly Roll Morton called "The Spanish Tinge" in the roots of jazz.
Siboney is also a much more serious song about reminiscence when Lecuoma was away from Cuba and expressed his "'homesickness". There is no way this happy tune is about being "homesick", it's about pure joy ! I've heard this Caribbean song before but I can't quite place it.

I can't get to it either but I know this song. It is either from Suriname or Trinidad.

Oh man. Barnabas on a cornet? Some things are just not right. If Shaye is not there to keep order then things get out of hand very quickly.
