Like I say in the video, these are just some reflections based on what I personally really like about Scandinavian style (and some of my fave style creators) - but please remember it’s not an ideal and not at all how everyone likes to dress. Everyone has their own unique way of dressing here and that doesn’t make them less Scandinavian (or Danish) for that matter. So as always, take what you may like from the video as well! I know lots of people who prefer dressing in a more playful and colorful way for example and it’s all good. Each to their own 🫶🏻 thanks for watching! Signe xx
I think color preferences in fashion are totally influenced by where you live. In South Asia and Latin America, where I've lived, there is a riot of color everywhere. Turquoise and cerulean sky and water, brilliant scarlett and fushia and emerald green and yellow fluorescent flora and wildlife. Even the food is bright with spices. Wearing muted colors there would feel so blah. But I can understand how in Scandanavia muted colors would work with the softer colors of the landscape there.
Yes, totally agree. I live in the UK and wear mainly black and grey, since I have lived out in the UK countryside now I wear a lot of dark green and brown. I usually go to Greece in the summer and my British clothes don’t look right in the vibrant Greek landscape and the Mediterranean light.
You’re probably right. I live in regional Australia and I mostly reach for earthy colours. Olive green, natural linen (‘oatmeal’), off white cotton… Vibrant, bold colours and colourful outfits aren’t really common for everyday wear. I feel like most Aussies don’t want to draw too much attention by what they wear.
I mean for ordinary people, if you like the style, buy the fake one and enjoy it everyday without worrying about scratching it or dying it from you jeans. Use the extra thousands of dollars invest to yourself. Go to school, learn some instruments, travel abroad, save for retirement, charity works. Luxury is dying. *gtdupe*
Yes! I live in Europe but often travel to South Asia and Latin America, which is why I have almost like two wardrobes 😆 one everyday one and one with more colorful summer clothes. But those summer clothes still feel like me because the core is the same: relaxed minimalism
Loved this video! It's so refreshing and the styles you've shown are beautiful and attainable. In an internet full of "how to have French girl style" this is by far one of my favorite fashion inspiration videos I've seen in a long time. Thanks so much for this perspective. I've really always worn these types of items - didn't know I was channeling "Scandi style" 😊
it's great to see PetiteKnit here - Danish knitting patterns are some of the most popular in the world (I also knit). I lived in Stockholm for 5 years and what surprised me at first was that women wore looser cuts, not men. In Poland, where I come from, it's rather the opposite.
This was my FAVORITE video from you! Every element you explained resonated SO much with me, my style, lifestyle, etc here in NW USA. I loved the bits of history/why behind the styles as well. Thank you!!❤
Great tips for any minimalist wardrobe in this video. I've noticed in the past few years I want functionality over trendy particularly in footwear and outer wear. I think this could be your influence 😊
Great advice. I am Danish, but live in the US. Thank you for including Petiteknit. We Danes love to knit and I have knitted multiple of her pattern. Knitting a red cardigan right now for winter. Nice with a little color along with all the neutrals. Truly SLOW fashion, but belongs with hygge.
Thank you. I love your style. Could you please give some style ideas for the elderly (70+)? I have a pale skin colour with a cool undertone , silver grey hair (natural) and warm (reddish) brown eyes. I like the natural simple Scandi style. Maybe I am not the only elderly lady who love your videos?
What a nice video! Really enjoyed watching it! :) I've been a fan of Scandinavian fashion for years now and honestly think that's the most suitable fashion choice for me personally. I appreciate French and Italian designers but I can never see myself wearing their pieces cause it always seems a bit too much for me, though I always appreciate their craftsmanship and omg those Italian ladies wearing bold colours :)
I love it all…❤. Thank you for your hard work. My wardrobe is coming along super nicely you have inspired me so much. My list of things to purchase this Fall/Winter season is so short this year. I live in a small condo in California and I have slowly been removing things I don’t use. I apply the same technique throughout our seasons which means I’m just very mindful of what I use on a consistent basis. I lean toward specific colors and now I no longer need an extra zip pouch under my bed for extra clothes. I have found great solutions for minimizing my wardrobe but still maintaining the quality I prefer. Even my accessories like handbags and jewelry have a real purpose, over just having some pretty things I never use. ❤❤❤❤❤
Greetings Signe, So great to see you again! It would be so helpful to share sustainable knitwear brands that ship to United States🇺🇸 You look amazing! Such an exciting time in your life💕
I loved It. I'm part Norwegian, German and Scottish, I've only been to England. So I'm excited to learn more about other European counties, such as Denmark also. I hope to travel overseas next year sometime. I liked all the outdoor scenes and Danish lifestyle you made it so entertaining to learn about. (Norwegian sweaters, wow). Thank you.
I was feeling so Fall-ish lately, until it went back to 93 degrees today 😢 I stream so many great shows on MHZ Choice and see beautiful Scandi style. ❤ You’re looking great!
Even the monarchy seems to me more relaxed I visited coppenhagen in April and I was impressed by the cosy look of the king and is beautiful wife, compare to English monarchy the are more naturel, sporty and kind of outdoor style with family. And you’re right people seem confortable In theirs clothes and nature like style I feel at home …❤
I’d love to hear your take on hair color. I’m an American with Swedish/Danish roots. I’ve let my hair color gray/silver naturally and when I traveled to Sweden and Denmark I saw that I fit right in with many “ silver sisters”. As a knitter watching Danish knitting You Tube channels I see the same. Am I only seeing what I want to see 😉 or is this the case? In the US I’m probably in the minority ( although I get tons of compliments) and the Pandemic changed the hair dying practice for many. Love your channel and thanks for all of the Petite Knits references!
Interesting observation! I might be slightly biased because I LOVE grey hair and I think it looks so stunning! With that I have to agree, it’s very common that many people here embrace it rather than covering it with dye 😊😍
Another wonderful video - thank you! While watching, I had a "lightbulb moment" and noticed many similarities between Danish/Scandinavian priorities and what I see in my home, Portland, Oregon (U.S.). Specifically, the focus on functionality, access to nature/outdoors, and bikes. Grateful for where I live : )
I've been looking for a trench coat that would suit me for a long while, but unfortunately if I find anything that I like and it's within my budget, it's always made of polyester. So I've given up and bought a cotton cargo jacket instead. However, I haven't had the chance to wear it yet, as in Central Europe we still have summer weather...
Scandinavian dress for the weather. Those who do not stick out like a sore thumb. The trick is to dress weather appropriately yet still fashionable. We why always check the weather forecast and apps. In summer, always. ring a light jacket or an umbrella, plus sunglasses, in fall a warmer jacket and boots, winter, layers of wool, under a coat or a jacket. But depends on the activity/outing.
Signe, I read some time ago that Scandinavians are less likely to want to stick out; that they are okay or even want to be like everybody else in a non-elitist way, e.g. so as to not show off wealth, elevate themselves above others etc. Would you subscribe to that theory?
I think you may be thinking of Law Of Jante (janteloven) which is commonly known in Scandinavian societies, more as a “you shouldn’t think you’re better than anyone” kind of mindset. So I do recognise it yes, especially having grown up in a small community where this way of thinking is very common. It’s a mindset for both good and bad, I think many scandis would agree 😅 it’s good to be humble for sure, but at the same time why shouldn’t you be allowed to “think big” and outside the box sometimes, you know? 😊 but an interesting cultural topic for sure! I haven’t read it all the way through but found this article which explains it: www.scandinaviastandard.com/what-is-janteloven-the-law-of-jante/
Depends on how you look at it. As a Norwegian I can tell you at least here, showing off wealth has been historically frowned upon. And worst thing is to be called a snob. This is most likely due to the fact that even though we today, in modern times are rich, tho poverty is on the rise, we’ve always been a farming and fishing community, still is. And where freedom is seen as personal space, and boundaries as well as access to nature, free roaming, animals and hiking is basically our cultural identity besides skiing, it’s pretty much about simplicity. Not over complicating things. Tho we are a social democracy and our economy is capitalist we aren’t run by big corporations like in the US, so corruption is very low, we also have more trust in. ot only our politicians, and police, ut also our fellow citizens. Also the poor aka farmers vs the rich/elitist in the big city or capitol. There’s still kinda this division where those not living in cities or urban areas hate on those that do. I grew up in the suburbs back in the 90’s as a true Millennial (born in 87’), and you’re basically taught indirectly to hate the capital city, and that it is a dangerous place lol. Now that I live there and have been for the past 17 years I don’t agree. And ironically the people living in Oslo, the majority are not locals, but people moving in from all over the country. Of course Scandi fashion aside, not sticking out may still be the unwritten social norm, but this has started to change and at least in the bigger cities it’s okay to stand out, be your self and experiment. And my ethnic Norwegian white mom in her 60’s/70’s, still calls me vein or a show off just for taming care of my appearance as in her days, she was born right after WW2, it was very different. You where only supposed to “dress up” for special occasions like a bday, confirmation or the holidays like Xmas🤣🤣🤣 And yes due to thag inate fear of sticking out, for the wrong reasons, most people are sheep, and don’t dare hopping on any trends unless someone else does it 1st so they can see the reaction from the majority society. If it is a success suddenly the whole town is dressed in the same fashion. This is very small town/village mentality though. So it’s easy to tell when the country bumpkins are on vacay visiting the capitol city by what they are wearing👀🤭🤡
Sad, dark and boring. Even now, the amount of fillers and Botox in the streets shocked me in SE/NO/DK. 20 years ago the natural look was common. Very boring and dark. Nothing like French style.
I love basic people who try to hide behind color to deflect rhetoric fact that they themselves are very boring people who are scared to appreciate simplicity, and neutral tones/colors.
Awesome video. Really nice to see you back. Awesome review. Great model shots. Love it. Thank You so much for sharing darling. Have a great week dear LYXBAGS

Sounds like what works in my area of 🇨🇦 active wear with smart casual vibes! Love this.
So lovely Signe. And sweet baby bump too!
Inspiring video about Scandinavian style. I am a knitter and a fan of Danish knitwear designs, I loved seeing mentions about Petite Knit etc. ❤
Thanks for watching! ❤

Me too! I’m knitting one of her patterns now. 💚
Me too! Just finished her Poppy Tee😂

Knitting with alpaca is lovely. The finished results so nice to wear.
As a Norwegian, I agree with all your points! Great video!

Love these secrets. I bought a beautiful trench coat last year. I love your high cheekbones and your dimples. Very pretty face😊
Great video! Good lesson about Scandinavian knitwear.
Love this practical style/ fashion .
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it 😄🙏🏼
Thank you. I love your style. Could you please give some style ideas for the elderly (70+)? I have a pale skin colour with a cool undertone , silver grey hair (natural) and warm (reddish) brown eyes. I like the natural simple Scandi style. Maybe I am not the only elderly lady who love your videos?

Such a nice video 😊 we just came back from copenhagen and oslo and it was soo cool and layed back - we had a great holiday there🎉
The variety of textures in the LYXBAGS pack is impressive. From smooth leather to textured suede, there's something for everyone.

Great vlog Signe 🧡🍂🤎
Love the color pallet ❤
Totally my speed - from Northern California. 👍🏻.
Thanks i loved it ❤
Can you do more about skin care and makeup
Excellent video 👍
Great video! You could probably add natural materials to the list as well as architectural designs. 😊

How do You style your very nice hair? You look amazing!

I live in Sweden and I wish people here used more pops of color. I try to add a colorful handbag but then I am an immigrant to Sweden. 😊
Maybe care less about what others think or
might think, and just wear whatever you want? Knuss och knass frän Norje😘
