Don't pressure test to max head on a diaphragm tank, the diaphragm will stretch and break! This can happen at around 30/40 psi above the tanks air charge! You notice around 75 psi in this video it begins to rapidly rise in psi, that's the diaphragm reaching it's limit. It can not stretch any more and all its doing is compressing steel and pvc.

+Shane D Stokes 400rpm max on the big wheel. If you are running a 1440rpm motor use a 2" pulley (If you have a pump with the smaller type of flywheel (usually aluminium) don't go bigger than a 1 1/2 pulley on the motor
I love this project. I want to do the same thing in my pumphouse for the rain water I collect for things like gardens. Now I need to find a piston pump. I have a 24 volt bank charged by solar in my pumphouse already running the Simple Pump for my well water. Gotta love Solar
Nice video! I have an old exercise bike hooked up to a Meijer Bulldozer Piston Pump works great very easy to pedal and get pressure. Maybe I'll add solar into it!
Question. I had two sprinklers in our garden and all worked fine, I added another about 50 ft away and now the water pressure is low. My system:: from the water valve I have 100ft of 5/8 that is hooked upto another hose valve. There I have a timer that feeds 40ft of 5/8 hose to the first sprinkler, that is linked to anther using 30 ft of 5/8 hose. That was working great until I added another that is 50ft of 1 inch underground pvc to another sprinkler. It is when I added the third is when I lost pressure. If I add a pump, where should I put it, at the valve at the houes where it starts, or at the second valve where the timer is ? Will a video help.? If you haven't the time to answer I understand..
thanks for sharing. who else makes similar pumps for high head applications. we currently pump from 3 wells to 110psi with grundfos helicals....are energy conversion losses greater or lower?
Hello: I looked on your site and the Rift 15 new is $2,060. I guess the 75 year old 15 I got this weekend for $100 wasn't to bad. I'm just guessing 75 years old. I have P.B. Blaster soaking on all the bolts and nuts right now. It has a brass plate with model and serial number I guess I can get a rebuild kit for it. Have a Good One
I just got one of these. I am searching for the Seals Gasket's and Buckets for the plungers. Where did you find the parts, In the US I am in Texas, Did you make the Leather Gasket's and Buckets? I have the entire unit Soaking in oil right now. Intact but heavy rust.
having a tough time finding out the depth the well is twenty years old about three years ago i had a new submersible put in like $1.500 but if this would work i'd rather have one like this much easier to service
engineer775 Practical Preppers I have the same question. Well is 60 feet deep with a static level in midsummer of 17 feet. well is 40 to 50 years old and has not been used in around 30 to 35 years. Need a suggestion on the best way to clean it out also as I know there is going to be a good deal of sedimentation in the bottom.
I absolutely hate that currently fashionable buzzword ' mitigate' it doesn't mean one thing at all but is construed in a sentence to convey terms such as 'get rid of ' or 'reduce'.........just say get rid of or reduce its way easier
+turtlezed I suggest you look up the definition and origins of the word. It originates from Latin and the word comes from late Middle English. And you know what? It actually does mean something. Just because you don't like the word doesn't mean that it means nothing.
Also, look at the usage history. We use it just slightly more than people did in the 1800s. It's not a buzzword at all. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it a buzzword or a word with no meaning. Don't think so highly of yourself.
Lets do a little math. To figure this out you need to know the Amp-Hour rating on the battery(s) and also the amps being drawn from them. So, just for the sake of quickly answering your question, we will throw in a few estimated numbers. So one car battery on average will have a 60 Ah rating. And lets just guess that this motor will run 5 Amps when running with a medium load. So, a simple equation can be done to solve the amount of time. That is T=A/C And T= Time A=Amp Hour and C= Consumed. So lets plug in the numbers. T=60/5. That equals 12. So, theoretically, your battery should run for 12 hours. So that's the simple answer, however. It gets WAY more complicated. There are voltages that can affect this, and also, something called a peukert number. To make this simple, Go ahead and check out this spreadsheet i made that calculates the time a bit more accurately than i am. I used this spreadsheet to calculate a more accurate number which is now 9.2951600 hours. docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsWMJiWcicazdEZVQUI4LVg5NlFmRFpoM2NfSXBEaEE&usp=docslist_api
Engineer775 - I have a Crane S 25 Piston Pump that I am in the process of restoring prior to putting it back to work. It is finctioning well, but I would like to go through it completely. I have not been able to find and parts manuals for it. Would you have any advice? I would like to find a parts manual before I get too far along. Enjoy your videos. Thank you.
Hi mr 775 .lol I may have mist it , but what did you use for the 12 volt motor ? I was thinking of trying a windshield wiper motor ?? What do you think of that ? The power is not to bad on the older ones , like out of a older truck or car . Not trying to reinvent the wheel , it just may be easer in emergency to find one . Thanks for other grate video .
I am looking for about your product place lace me a message . When I post this , I am looking for more information no this . Where can I find one and how I could build one what are you doing there rain catchment system when collect rainwater unfortunate Punk 2 Tumwater to livestock and two other tanks and were to Garden or to your house or to another big tank he said it runs off solar-powered what about us electricity do not work what about wind power or a battery backup
I have a Duro piston pump drawing water from the river through a 2 in. Line. I get lots of water at the pump but when i hook up 100 ft Of 3/4 in. Hose and a lawn sprinkler, it runs about 30 seonds and shuts down. What am I doing wrong?
Too long and too small a diameter hose causing too high a discharge pressure. Pressure is resistance to flow, in this case cause by pushing water a long way through a small hose.
Wow motor is a little pricy and the windshield wiper motor will not do the trick ,But I picked up a 12 volt winch with a remote . This should be ok ? Just think you could be in the camp and if its raining ,just use the remote threw the window . That way you don't have to have the wife go turn it on . Lol
the RPM of that pump sounds way too high you will wear the piston cups in no time at that speed most of the older piston pumps use a 1/6 HP 1425 to 1450 RPM motor
yeah... not a solar water pump. Power provided by solar sure, batteries really but either way. NOT A SOLAR WATER PUMP BUDDY. A solar water pump does not use an electric motor or batteries, this is a standard water pump. nothing special

Did you do a video when you rebuilt this pump
What type of motor use the water pump? Can you share the spec of the motor???
I have a 48v sol arc solar system. I have what I believe is an old piston well with a huge pressure tank. What volt motor should I get? Thanks
How would this work for impact sprinklers?

Is an old hot dog speedy air piston compressor, motor useable? Or does it have to be oil less comp piston motor?
I have the very Same Pump, Where did you Get the DC Motor How many RPMS? What is the amp Draw?

I m looking for ro dc booster pump which can produce 2000 lph..or dc motor driving piston pump for same..solar 3kva power..Is any solution ?..
Nice working man !
I wonder about using one with a well ???. my grand parents had a piston pump but they had a point my well is 88ft
What is the static level? The distance to the top of the water?
not sure but I will find out

Is there anything that can be done to mitigate the noise? Otherwise, it's good.

Your opinion doesn't change the fact that it's a legitimate word with a meaning.
Nice setup ,thanks for the video:-)
hi engineer775 i have an old piston pump that was used on a cistern in my old house and i was wondering if i can get help finding parts or sell it
Do you know the bore and stroke?
1 3/8" bore. 2" stroke
Cool Setup!

I'm looking for a pump like that for a project I'm doing. Any ideas on how to find one?
Nice job. Thanks for the video. Wayne
where do i find one of this pumps ?
Thank you , my dad always was telling ,I never pay enuf attention !! LOL
