I usually can't tell the difference between reproduction accessories and vintage accessories. I've solved the problem for my own collecting by never paying vintage prices for any accessories, even if the seller is saying they are vintage.
Many serious collectors seem to hate repros because they can no longer trust eBay listings based solely on the photos supplied. They are locked into wanting that rare find or that lucky break based on how things use to be. In most other collecting communities be it art or antiquities collectors turn to legitimate businesses so they can avoid buying fakes or reproductions. The toy collecting community needs to stop thinking the industry is still the same as it was 10 years ago and start supporting actual businesses that trade in toys. I've heard people complain about these prices, but these businesses have to make a profit, just like an art dealer adds a cut to any sale they make. If they want legit, buy from legit services, rather than Frank from Denmark, who has a listing for some unknown toy plastic gun that their kids found in the attic at a starting bid of $20USD.
You hit it right on the head with people who talk shit about reproduction items. Snobbery. I love repro's their affordable and I'll continue to support it.
I also fall into the camp that repro’s do not bother me! If I accidentally buy a repro I will just look for an original if that is what I am wanting. On an expensive item a person needs to just do their research and only buy from a reputable seller.😁👍

I’ll never understand why some people get their knickers in a twist- some just do it so they can whinge. I’m an OG collector and have my original toys but when I’ve lost weapons or capes I’ll replace them with repro. Who cares? If someone wants to spend £30 on one original weapon that’s up to them but it ain’t for me. I’m yet to see anyone trying to pass repro stuff off so no harm done.
I would definitely buy repo weapons. It's such a small part of the overall picture. I'm even looking at the last 15 figures from SS as I can't justify the prices of the originals. 🙂
I am of two minds. I much prefer getting everything original, and often will wait to find items at sales or eBay (that are not stupid prices). It feels more satisfying knowing I have authentic items. If you use repro to complete missing elements of your personal collection, that is fine too. The issue is when someone tries to sell them as original (again, due to the insane prices). If you are buying over the internet, it is very hard to know if something is real or not, even if you ask, the seller could lie. FYI, I caught a video game seller making copies, even though he was insinuating they were real. Once the market is flooded with repro, there is really no way to be sure of what you are getting. Tough topic really. Many ways to look at it.
In a perfect world, we could all get original Kenner items for our figures, but sadly, due to the price of these originals, repro is the only way some people can complete their collections.
I don't have a Issue with repros as I got a few myself but assuming you buy them online you can run into a dishonest seller with them not showing having a picture of the actual item for you to compare
I thought I'd heard something about float tests with repros. Beautiful weapons. People should just be happy with what they have and stop worrying so much about what other people are into.
Well said, sir! I understand and fully support the anti-fraud angle of repro skepticism, but the most vocal objections, as you say, seem to come from the people who realise they can't scalp their hoards for obscene amounts of money if much cheaper repros are available.
Hello Dean, awesome video. Very well said as is the case with all ur videos... I do not endorse repro, but understand that people should be able to buy & collect as they please. One thing that I do find interesting is that newer repro can float. It doesn’t add play value, but can serve to trick some into believing it’s genuine. Also, grading companies simply won’t accept/grade any accompaniment of repro. They keep ur money & return ur item(s).
I've always maintained that people shouldn't be passing repro off as original. At the end of the day, if you're unsure if some repro is being passed off as original, you should just walk away.
50 years from now when the earth looks like Death Star 2 and all life on the planet is dead, aliens will come here and find our stuff. They won't care if our Star Wars figures have original weapons or not, and neither should we. People shouldn't take collecting too seriously. Just have fun! After all, that's what it's there for. Great video my friend! AMEN!
I think repro figures and accessories are good if you need to complete your collection and save money. I have also bought several vintage figures with original vintage accessories. However, when I sold mine, I had to be honest with them that some had repro accessories. I know there are a lot of "vintage only" buyers out there and I wanted to be honest with them too.
I had a recent bit of repro drama. TL:DR is I 3D printed a friend's kid a mando figure because the kid's mom, who is a good friend of mine, told me the kid was bummed about the Mando vintage style figures not coming out till like March. Both the dad and the kid acted like I killed their dog or something because it's "repro". www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/comments/kcsfqm/aita_for_upsetting_friends_kid_with_aspergers/
These look great! I think those of us that grew up with these toys have a kind of instinct for these weapons etc., if you know what I mean? I can just instantly tell what's real, repro or re-painted, usually just from photos! I do feel for genuine younger collectors who might be confused by repro stuff (not the snobs/scalpers though). And I must say, I do get a bit tired of people listing figures on Ebay with dodgy looking repro accessories, thinking they can triple the value of a loose figure that way :D
You can easily tell the difference. I bought a loud of figures and got the weapons in the deal. Stan solo weapons are harder plastic. The Gamorean Guard Axe handle is stiff you can bend the originals and the original guns are kind of gummy. Like you can leave a thumb nail print in em and the stan solo ones are solid. The R2 pop up sabre is hollow the original is solid gummy.
A few years back, I wanted a mini-army build...not to compete with the truly serious folks out there who eat up every Imp available online..just 50 Snowtroopers..I spent all told about $900 bucks on acquiring my little mini-platoon over a few years. Only a few I bought came with original rifles...and none had their little "skirt", or "kilt" or whatever it was...the original figures' capes were notorious for VERY easily falling off and getting lost by kids..same with the weapons for most, if not all SW figures. The skirt was just a little trapezoid of white vinyl...how do you even tell it apart from a repro cape? Toy Polloi offered a downloadable guide for free so you could cut your own...So I did...and none of them are perfect like a machine could do...so anyone with an eye and some expertise could easily spot them as having been cut with my scissors from this old white picnic tablecloth my Mom had lying around. My point is...I already spent near a grand on my guys...to find original capes?...AND about the 40 guns I needed?...It would have been alot more expensive. I just want my crew to look sharp...and not spend too much....these were cheap toys for kids back in the day with easily lost parts...they arent Rembrandts.

In many places through only a few venues. And even some of those sellers SPECIALISE in shipping goods excellently. Hat tip☆ crow8869 'ebay seller'.
There's a different "feel" to them. Obviously, you can't feel something you buy online, but you can return it for a refund if you but repro by mistake.
The only thing i feel am concerned about repros, that new collectors would have no knowledge about originals. They will get tricked by the seller into spending a lot of dollars who claim their original. But i have no issue with buyers having repos because the original weapons are to expensive. Dick from Repro blasting would not agree
I can't stand those elite fullas...if you don't have a vinyl cape jawa then its not a collection, that's crap!. I think these are great for fullas that don't have a lot of money. Some weapons now days can be costly. So ok by me if it can help fullas forful there childhood dreams...shes allgood. My friend use's these weapons in his loose figure collection.has real ones put away so they don't get loss. smart dude. If it makes you happy sweet as! will...n.z
I agree with you, nothing wrong with repro weapons. Such a small component to your figures does it really matter? The best reproduction I've come across is the dengar rifle, looks and feels exactly the same as the original and the biggest laugh yet it floats in water, these elitests enjoy testing their toys with trail by water to make sure it floats. If you ask me they all talk a load of crap.
repro is cool if for your personal collection to display or shove up someones ass..hahha...but if your gonna try and sell someone a blatant fake or repro...knowing damn well its fake...thumbs up bro....im with you fam..
The new repro Black Endor Blasters are very difficult to identify. Collect however you want to collect! I am and encourage no repro to keep the hobby pure but that’s a pipe dream now. When it comes time to offload or sell is this info going to be told.. or known it’s repro so the next collector doesn’t have to ponder if he got ripped off or not?? Why make the new one float? Why make them so close to the originals you have to become “an expert” to ID? The main reason who made these is to deceive and rip off!!
I’m more of a action force collector but I love the repo and custom pieces that are available for the range the average collector can’t afford to buy vintage Star Wars because the anti repo crowd keep the prices artificially high and attack fellow collectors because they buy this stuff to enjoy their collection I rather have a live and let live attitude collect how you like just don’t attack others doing the same
You mention it doesn't feel like the original without providing specifics. How would someone who doesn't have the original weapons know how it's supposed to feel? This 'feels' like you are saying it's doesn't feel genuine because you know it's not genuine. Very subjective.
It is very subjective. If I was able to describe the difference in feel, I would have. Unfortunately, if you've never had the opportunity to grow up with original weapons, then you will probably not be able to identify repros.
What do you mean you deserve to be ripped off? Like its my fault that the seller, said it was real? That he was lying in his selling post, that he wasnt honest? That he has no integrity? Thats my fault? Have you seen these repro weapons? They look exactly as the originals, only someone that has a trained eye can spot the fake from the real one. NOBODY DESERVES TO BE RIPPED OFF BY CROOKS. 🙄and i was here thinking that your channel was good? Smh WOW
It's been so long since I made this video and I forget the context, but at the end of the day, if you're so concerned about getting conned by repro, you really shouldn't be buying them online.
@@AllThings80s wrong again!!! getting conned happens even in toy shops, the business owners dont even know what they are getting? When they purchase figures with accessories from a private seller, but, i know that there are some experts out there that can tell, what is Original and what is a fake? The problem is that you will have to send them the accessories for their evaluation, and pay a good amount of cash, and that will be too much lost time and money for a small piece of plastic.
Interesting topic. I agree that we should all collect whatever way makes us feel the happiest. Cheers M

My friend use's these weapons in his loose figure collection.has real ones put away so they don't get loss. smart dude.
If it makes you happy sweet as! will...n.z
Well said. 👍🏻
I completely agree.
repro is cool if for your personal collection to display or shove up someones ass..hahha...but if your gonna try and sell someone a blatant fake or repro...knowing damn well its fake...thumbs up bro....im with you fam..
👍🏻
The new repro Black Endor Blasters are very difficult to identify. Collect however you want to collect! I am and encourage no repro to keep the hobby pure but that’s a pipe dream now. When it comes time to offload or sell is this info going to be told.. or known it’s repro so the next collector doesn’t have to ponder if he got ripped off or not?? Why make the new one float? Why make them so close to the originals you have to become “an expert” to ID? The main reason who made these is to deceive and rip off!!
I don't speak for the repro makers, so I can't answer your specific questions.
I’m more of a action force collector but I love the repo and custom pieces that are available for the range the average collector can’t afford to buy vintage Star Wars because the anti repo crowd keep the prices artificially high and attack fellow collectors because they buy this stuff to enjoy their collection I rather have a live and let live attitude collect how you like just don’t attack others doing the same
Exactly 👍🏻
@@grimaldo99 Not wrong at all.
