That bend at 6:44 ... I just... I can't stop replaying that absolutely majestic bend! Got a new guitar coming in, and you have inspired me to pick up these bad boys. Keep on rockin'!
Steve, from one middle aged husband, father, and rocker to another; I enjoy the hell out of your vids. Sounds like we had the same influences and past band life. Just curious what you do for a living. I'm in IT. Keep rockin' brother. Don
You've been AWOL dude....2 weeks & no vids.....Glad to see you back Steve, I know all too well about being busy man, hang in there & keep at it....I always enjoy your videos man, just glad to see ya back!!! Keep 'em comin'!!!!!
Nice Demo of the p/u. I was going to install a push/pull switch but figured I'd make sure that the difference in the jumper on/off was significant enough to warrant surgury. Yeah it is.. I had the wires to the jumper pins on the outside of the guitar and would try single notes/chords clean and distorted, vol up and down, touching the pin wires together then open. I found that there is maybe a 4-5 increase in db. also increase in bass response, harmonics, distortion/grind. As Seymour says it becomes compatible with your front p/u. It does.. reduces the overall output enough to be maybe a little less distorted then an extreme output passive pickup, I'm compairing this to an Dimarzio X2N.. the p/u still has the same overall heavy tone though :) Hope this helps...
Sounds great Steve. You're really ripping tonight! Dig the beard too! Wish you would have played Heartbreaker with the Plexi patch. Was the perfect tone for that. Rock on!
First off, I find it weird that this video locks up at 0:04 without fail on my comp every time I watch it. However, it plays just fine when I watch on my phone or other devices hooked up to my tv etc... Anyone else have that issue? As for the amount of gain still causing breakup on the bridge pickup even with the jumper off.... Have you tried running that bypassed through any pedals using a potentiometer (Crybaby wah etc...)? Signal drops with each ground/pot that it crosses (even when bypassed on some pedals). Since you have such an abundance of signal that could be a cheap way to hobble some of that excess gain. If it works a volume pot with more resistance on that pickup might clean the signal up until you flip the jumper back on for solos.
+Beyond Limits Productions go js1000. More versatile, lighter, more comfortable plus it is a sig so you are pretty much guaranteed for a flawless guitar.
What's the tapping sequence you do at 13:55? I've seen you do it on the "how to spot a fake les paul" video. You should cover that in an upcoming video.
First to notice you were in Eb!(which was cool, I didn't have to adjust!) Am I the only one that plays along? Great tones and sweet playing! I have got to get a computer rig!
Thanks for that, I definitely prefer it unboosted personally. I think I'm going to pair one with a Mick Thompson EMTY AHB 3 for the neck. Unfortunately a bit of a pricey combo here in the UK and I've only actually found one outlet for the AHB 2. Still, for Les Paul style guitars, from EMG's to Teslas, not to mention all the other Blackouts, that's definitely the active humbucker that sounds sweetest to my ears.
A switch for the boost is a really good idea, eliminates the need for excessive foot work. Otherwise, the 6-string Blackouts aren't really my cup of tea, I prefer passive pickups. They do work really well in my 8-string Schecter though, especially for the cleans.
Hi ! Could you please do a video for the seymour duncan ahb-2 metal blackout WITH the jumper for the dual output and show the difference between the two output levels in terms of gain? Thank you !!
Whats up, (Steve) PixxyLixxx!?! I agree, sounds wonderful without boost. You can always add that switch, or try the SD AHB-3 Mick Thomson EMTY Signature Blackouts, for that over the top. \m/
Thanks for answering, didn't expect a response so fast. No sarcasm intended either. I didn't think I would get a response for like days or weeks, so thanks again. (:
Apologies if this has been asked before, Steve, but have you weighed in on either side of the SD Blackout - EMG 81/85 debate? I haven't seen you mention the EMG pickups, and wondered if you'd tried them in the past (I can't imagine that you wouldn't have!) and how you felt they compared?
Hey Steve. Love the way it sounds bro. I dislikes that video now stops when I am posting comment. And that it wants to use Google plus. I never signed up for Google plys but apparently I'm on there. Lol. Keep rockin! I can't wait for your DEBUT PRODUCT REVIEW FROM THE MANUFACTURER. I share your videos with every group I'm associated with!! Pardon the grammar.
Hello ive been following your chanel for some time now. I own a gibson sg special from 2004. I wanna replace the pickups for metal playing but am at a loss with so many to chose from. I know its personal preference really but if i go with passive pickups cause im not a fan of a battery on my guitar what are a few good passive pickups for metal playing thankyou
Steve, Just on a side note, I recently discovered Positive Grid's Jamup Pro XT and BIAS for iPad. Pretty amazing to discover you can get these type of sounds out of an iPad! :) Man, what the heck will we have available to us in 10 years time? Blows ones mind to even ponder it! :) You should check it out! Fluff's even recently done a demo of BIAS on his channel.
What kind of switch would you use to control the boost? I have a 3 knob setup tone, tone, volume and a 3 way toggle. Do you have to add a switch or knob or can you put in a push/pull pot to activate it?
Ah yes, the Blackouts. You convinced me, with your first vid, to get the chrome set in my Les Paul. Sounds awesome. Hey, I hope you found a use for those guitar neck plates I sent you. Nice playing by the way :)
I guess you use two different tracks for the TH2 and the mic - but still... You can try and mute it (edit the audio afterwards) when you play and unmute it when you talk... It takes time but... You CAN hear the pick attack.
Hi ! Love your stuff here... so there, done ;) I bought a pair of Blackouts (Blackouts and Blackouts for metal) and put them in my Epiphone LP. My problem is that they are so hot they clip like hell. Both my Guitar Link and a Digidesign Mbox2 I borrowed have big problems. It seems like the input stage is clipping and distorting the sound badly. I have not "engaged" the boost. At what height do you have them at? Any other tip of getting rid of the clipping would be much appreciated!
I have a thought about this and realize that Most folks whom go hot are doing it for the amp response. But, using line buffers or otherwise a similar type computer system for the software amp type presence. I ve heard Mr Pixxy mention several times about latency and issues about clipping here on his site. I have no doubt that there are ways to bring tone back to useful response. From reading your post I had the immediate thought that your concern was for computer gear. If this is not the case. Then I ll hush and remove this as a way to correct my error.
i own the SN-2 it works pretty good.haven't tested the mic option just vibration. i use it in a live settings so i could say its a pretty nifty device to carry around
Howdy Steve, diggin' the drop D tone, foy soy-tin! What's on the headstock? Is that one of those things that helps with sustain? I recall a product like that years ago P.S. have a super happy turkey week!
And BTW - the plexi with all the drive and active pickups just screams ZAKK WYLDE! :D Imma gonna buy a cheap LP copy and put EMGs - just for the fun! :D
gerblonsking That Kramer is awesome. Check out the Kramer Ferrington Explorer acoustic video. That thing is killer. You gotta get over here with your guitars. I'd love to check out the ESP.
You mean the comment from Dec 3? It's still here. I can see it. Are you arranged by date or top comments? This new comment section is a bit weird, to say the least.
Finally someone that doesn’t demo actives in drop z
I've done standard and D# but my channel is still developing. Lol.... looking to upgrade some more.
Keep rocking that beard man!!!! those pickups are sounding perfect damn!
Man, that les paul sounds good. Sounds right. So throaty and punchy. Best les paul I've heard on youtube.. I mean, this IS the sound I want.
Can you imagine if Randy Rhoads had Blackouts in his Les Paul!!!
That bend at 6:44 ... I just... I can't stop replaying that absolutely majestic bend! Got a new guitar coming in, and you have inspired me to pick up these bad boys. Keep on rockin'!
This is a really good way to do a demo for pickups. I like the way you do all different types of riffs and talking and it's not just playing.
I liked the clean acoustic wah sound a lot. Great video as always Steve

For the size and the quality of the content he puts out he doesn't have nearly enough subscribers :(
Hey man, I work over night, and your videos have been keeping me awake since you started posting! So thanks for helping me keep my job! Hahaha
Sounds great Steve! And I'm diggin' the Wolf Man look. Rock on!

That guitar and those pickups look f-rad. Very nice!
OK, THE SICK MOTHER WHO HIT THE DISLIKE, PLEASE DON'T COME BACK
Great demos of the Blackouts! thanks alot just suscribed to u! Youre getting a Gus G, Zakk Wylde tone!!
Some great licks in there! Nice touch...
Totally digged that plexi sound. And that beard suits you man!
Thank you for the clean tones on those pickups! Sounds better than I though clean
Nice Dr. Love at 8:00!! Love it!!
That flanger blew my mind (through my headphones).
Nice beard mate, keep it up
You could always drill a hole into the front from the cavity and put a switch to engage the boost
That is one AWESOME beard Steve!! LOL...:-)
Very nice Steve, and the beard looks good, too. Wish you had the D tuna on there? Rock on!
Sounds great Steve. You're really ripping tonight! Dig the beard too! Wish you would have played Heartbreaker with the Plexi patch. Was the perfect tone for that. Rock on!

The seymour duncan AHB-2 blackout metal is my favorite active pickup I'v ever used
I was thinking about buying a JS1000 but after hearing this guitar...you really got me thinking!
+Beyond Limits Productions go js1000. More versatile, lighter, more comfortable plus it is a sig so you are pretty much guaranteed for a flawless guitar.

By far my fav pup- have em in all my 6's Using a push/pull or mini toggle is the way to go!
whats that thing at 0:16 u do called?
First to notice you were in Eb!(which was cool, I didn't have to adjust!) Am I the only one that plays along?

Wonder what they sound like with a REAL amp?
Alex Moore not too different, he uses nice high end software... plugged into a Friedman though
Its wild that he is one of the only reviews for this pickup that is professionally recorded.
the snark tuner is slowly taking over every head stock. i myself own one as well
I think it sounded better boosted
Sounds great,better balence for sure.
"I'd give them an awesome!" :D Sums them up nicely. I think the bridge pickup sounds much better with the boost off.
Damn, I think I might get one of those Chinese guitars and drop in a nice set of pickups.
Hey Steve, how come there's no HD option on this video?
Big ole upgrade wow. Get on with your bad self. Keep rocking.
smoked it! \m/ You can't kill rock and roll...dude!
what kind of software is he using to get all of these different sounds? is he even plugged into an amp?
no amp just amp modeling and im sure its th2 still he uses it most of the time .
Thanks for answering, didn't expect a response so fast. No sarcasm intended either. I didn't think I would get a response for like days or weeks, so thanks again. (:
In a previous video he said he uses Guitar Rig 5
yeah but as of this time i know its mostly th2 guitar rig 5 was just for a lil bit back a long time ago
Well it is such great software. I'm sure he still uses it. I'm going to be using it as soon as possible.

awesome clean tone. Blackouts what?
Great sound with the Blackouts, how do you compare them with a set of EMG 81- 85s
Blackouts are way better than EMGs active pickups
ZAPMAN97 how so?
What kind of switch would you use to control the boost? I have a 3 knob setup tone, tone, volume and a 3 way toggle. Do you have to add a switch or knob or can you put in a push/pull pot to activate it?
Have you testet a Line 6 Variax Gitarre zb.James Tyler Variax: JTV-89F or a other model and what do you think?
Greetz from Germany!!
You rock that beard. Keep it bro.
Ah yes, the Blackouts. You convinced me, with your first vid, to get the chrome set in my Les Paul. Sounds awesome. Hey, I hope you found a use for those guitar neck plates I sent you. Nice playing by the way :)
What amp modeling software are you using? It sounds great!
He told about it in his previous video about these pups, Guitar Rig 5 :)

Hi steve,
I was wondering how often i should change my string's? I play almost everyday for an hour or more, I play a Chapman ml2.
Every Few months. For you, possibly every two to four months.
Every Few months. For you, possibly every two to four months.
i have washburn pxl20 with active emg 85/81 can i put ahb-2 directly into emg 81 quick connection socket? or i have to modify somethink ?
Plugs right in. Same connection.
Hi !

You have to have them lower than your typical emg, since the blackouts are higher output.
I don't like active pickups but these sound nice.
damn! sweet guitar and tone lml
Can you tell me what you are plugged in to... what software are you using?
Those sound incredible. Are those active and do they sell the pair in a set with pots and jack ? Not a fan of active pups.
***** yes, Blackouts are active
Steve, how are you getting along with the Snark? Recommend it over the others? Cheers.
i own the SN-2 it works pretty good.haven't tested the mic option just vibration. i use it in a live settings so i could say its a pretty nifty device to carry around
Great beard, looks good on you.
i have a gibson custom black with not good pickguard i would like seymour but i don't which ..
MisterJ π Jean-Paul on the website there is a handy tool on the front page that will narrow it down to 3 sets
Da man! Atta boy! Love it dude 🤙what is boost? Like turning the power from the 9v on?
Bit of Joe Walsh James Gang there, good stuff!!!
Compared to a super distortion?
Steve - so in the unboosted mode it’s a regular Blackout??? And even unboosted it’s still more than the regular Blackout???
Howdy Steve, diggin' the drop D tone, foy soy-tin! What's on the headstock? Is that one of those things that helps with sustain? I recall a product like that years ago
P.S. have a super happy turkey week!
Hey PDX. It's a clip-on tuner by Snark. BTW, I enjoy your channel and playing bro. Cheers
Thanks for clarifying Dom, rock on! :)
all in all it sounds good. I'd give it an 'awesome' too.
I'm buying one of these..........I've already got a guitar with EMGs and from what I understand they're interchangeable....smoking,,,,
Steve did you ever end up getting an amp ?
Even tho that's a Chinese made Les Paul copy that sounds better than most of the actual Les Paul's that I've played equipped with emg's
snuck in a little funk 49 there eh!!
Great vid! 🙂
P.S. Who keeps disliking these videos?
**Peace
Bridge pickup was a little too jangly for me.
And BTW - the plexi with all the drive and active pickups just screams ZAKK WYLDE! :D Imma gonna buy a cheap LP copy and put EMGs - just for the fun! :D
Clean ... that's more like it.
Russ Shipton Lives!!!!!
HA!! I was JUST looking at that book, bro, and recalling the hilarity. Russ Shipton!!
Wow, you're fast. Just catching up on your videos...I'm way behind. Really digging the Kramer Pacer Imperial and the Radius.
gerblonsking That Kramer is awesome. Check out the Kramer Ferrington Explorer acoustic video. That thing is killer. You gotta get over here with your guitars. I'd love to check out the ESP.
Will do, I promise. Send me an e-mail so we can make plans. Please post a Russ Shipton video...I'm dying to see it.
gerblonsking Absolutely. No one played the metal like Russ.
Your beard looks good.
those pinched harmonics though
alnico 5 …
It looks like Randy's Les Paul except it isn't!
Wow really sensitive mic. You really hear your breathing. Maybe just my headphones. Anyway cheers. Still awaiting that bass ;)
woah dude you have a beard in this video and shaved it off in the later videos almost did not recognize you!
Who removed my comment?
You mean the comment from Dec 3? It's still here. I can see it. Are you arranged by date or top comments? This new comment section is a bit weird, to say the least.
han36solo I did jerk face 😲
Hi Santa hahah \m/
I've always wondered why active pickups tend to have awful clean sounds. EMGs' cleans are horrible.
im thinking the ceramic magnets
Idk i really like active cleans. tighter and more precise. I find passive cleans to be a little too open or even flubby for me
egregion passive don't have as much compression
The SD AHB-2B and the AHB-1N have Alnico 5 magnets.
Active pickups: hjönk
Hawt
Made in China sound nou
