Wasted is subjective. Sleeping is required and if you didn't sleep you would die or not be able to be productive, so it's not wasting time. The reason that people are on their phones is that they are bored for the most part, and I don't consider it wasting your time. Just because we aren't out on a scavenger hunt or spending time with people doesn't mean that it is waste your time.
