Watch how I install this door:
• How To Install A Door ...
I have seven of these to make for the main floor of my house. While money can be saved by making these yourself, there is a lot of work involved, so you should consider that before taking it on. My reasons for doing this are mainly because I'll end up with doors that are much better quality than the typical hollow core doors you get from the retailers. Also, I have the freedom to make them exactly how I want, as plain or as fancy as needed to match the decor.

As videos go this on sits at the top: no BS, no fluff, no waste of time with stupid sxxt intros, it's right down to the matter, which is what viewers spending lots of time in youtube looking for info on fixing their cars or making a door... are looking for. It's not rocket science but it is not a common practice either. Secondly, this straightforward tutorial gave me an idea I didn't have to skip the pricey manufactured MDF interior doors in the style that I love, Shaker. Thank you!
After watching the video advert i was still skeptical. But when i finally downloaded the plans ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxZF0EMnrujZvqHhGkxiz559uIABJWR9TG i was very impressed. The whole plan was just as you said in the video. Thank you very much. I now have a large and valuable collection for my woodworks. This is great!
I remembered this vid from a year ago or so and came back to it. This will stay relevant for indefinetly particularly as the prices of door keeps going up to the moon and yet one can make it easily with ply thanks to this excellent video. Thanks a lot!
Hey John thanks so much for this video! I just completed mine and it turned out just as you built it. The only thing I did differently was to use Birch plywood to the customer's request. It was so easy to construct just as you showed in your video
I love this.. I bought an old home (built in the 1930s) that has seen some renovations that left me with a bunch of awful cardboard torsion box style interior doors, until I saw this I had resigned myself to either paying out the nose for solid wood doors new, or to spending every free moment out trying to source appropriately sized antique doors... After watching this two weeks back I am already three of five doors in, and my technique has improved with each one. Thanks!
@Don Perkins The first one did, because I didnt have a truly flat assembly area. However, you know what makes a perfectly flat assembly area for doors? Two of the crappy doors I was replacing, put one on the sawhorses and glued the other one to it, head to foot, every door after that has come out perfect.
I read that you made all the door's for your home and it took some time and energy but their not crappy door's. Their Beautiful door's you should be proud to say, I made these door's. I wish I had half the talent that you have in wood working. I have a little bit and can do some of what you are doing but not all , so my hats off to you good Sir. Thank you for sharing your Knowledge with us.
Made it last year and it still looks and works great. Thanks for the video
I really liked how you did the edges of the door. Some people just leave that out or just don't finish it. Great work!
Thumbs up for that sweet shirt.
That's an interesting approach using a material that hadn't even crossed my mind.
SO HAPPY I FOUND THIS VIDEO!!!! thank you for sharing a bare bones, but easy to follow video!
My Dad was a builder, and made doors, especially one for a school tuck shop. But he didn't just use wood or plywood; he put in a steel panel. Made them much more robust. Even resists a fencepost used as a battering ram.
Never seen someone building a door. Fascinating!
Really wish I'd seen this design before I made a set of doors for my workshop. The edge banding/finishing was a nice touch. Thanks for sharing.
The best part of the whole video... The shirt
What an awesome video John. Great watching you make something that is used and we see so many times a day but can also be so expensive, yet realizing it is a very straight forward process, with endless possibilities of customization!
I'm amazed with what you make out of plywood
GREAT SHIRT!!!!!!! And great video too LOL
Giving you a thumbs up just for the shirt. Now i'll watch the rest of the video.
Pretty nice John...looks like an easy, low cost way to get good quality and customize to your needs. Thanks for sharing.
love that T shirt
Brilliant. I wish I could do that... I wish I had the tools also. 👌
I find you a real craftsman.. If i had only a quarter of your skillset
That door looks so adoorable!
I love your shirt mate
Nobody cares that you love his shirt.
I don't care if anybody cares or not
Lol,
Nobody cares that I love the shirt also. But I don't care that nobody cares lol

I don't care that no body cares that I love his shirt. LMAO
That shirt is everything.
Awesome video. Thank you

Love that shirt! Love the way you put that door together too! Fascinating.
Thanks for the help, I've been needing to replace a door on my garage, but it's an odd size. This design should work great.

Thanks for the video. I have been trying to figure out how to make a door with plywood. You have given my answer.
Great video, I liked it as soon as I saw your shirt lol!
Best shirt ever 100%
Very cool. I need a new door for my camper. Watching you gives me confidence to try making one myself. I am not as good a carpenter as you but if I take it slow I think I can do it. Thanks.
very heavy for a camper door
Vary informative, thank you for showing us how easy it can be to make a door 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Really thanks for making this video you don't know you save how many dollars of people (Great Job)
Love the shirt........ oh and the door!
You just saved me a couple hundred bucks. Thank you sir!
great idea for custom sized doors.
You make it look so easy
Nice job. LOVE YOUR SHIRT
Beautiful work - My friend and I just built a wooden exterior door using the same method!
Curious what materials you used. I'm planning to do the same.
Man, that's a beautiful door. Great work.
I liked the build, but I'm concerned about mounting the hinges into the ends, as in concerned that it will split or the door won't hold up. Since this was a while ago, how'd they fair?
Great video! And I love your t-shirt! :)
I pushed like just because of his shirt
Great job
That's some good wood working right there
Love your shirt sir!!!!
Haven't even watched the video yet John, but wanted to give you a big 🖒 for that shirt!
I just love all your builds.
I am your new subscriber thank you for your video i hope u do more because it is very helpful and awesome to watch
Really nice, a solid no-nonsense build, thanks John.
Nice build, liked the scarf joint, and interior trim on the door. Thanks for the sizing video on the other channel.
great way to make plywood door, thanks..........
Beautiful door. Thanks for the demonstration and concise explanation! It will be easy to take these techniques and adapt them to different styles of doors. Love your shirt, BTW! 😆
I love the shirt!
You can actually make a "real" door with ply by laminating it to make stiles and rails with a tongue and groove, also with a true centre panel that fits perfectly - I've made shaker style kitchen doors with ply and it works great.
Nice and simple construction, and almost a shame to paint it 😉 Thanks for sharing 👍👍
I love your videos, you do some amazing work and love how you explain everything.
Thanks for the video! I am getting ready to attempt making about 10 interior doors myself. Ill probably do a video and stick it up on my channel in a week or two when I get around to them.
This was very handy. I will definitely be adding a few of these to my to do list and just at the right time. Thanks for sharing :)
Love the Tshirt!
Darn it John, I've got a project coming up with four or five doors and had every intention of using the cheapest, egg-box filled crappiest doors from the discount bin at the big box store... and now you do this?? I'm not going to be happy with el-cheapo now, am I? ;)
Nice vid mate. Keep 'em comin'!
almagill You could also try the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store if there's one near you. I bought two SOLID doors for $9 each. It's hit or miss on what you find.
Where do I get a shirt like that??
Really a good idea, thanks
Regards from Copiapó, Chile.
Great job John. I know doors are your speciality. I guess layout and measurements are critical so you end up with a true and plumb door top to bottom.
Nice looking door!!
Very good video....thanks for sharing...size of the playwood pls
Beautiful looking door!
Thank you :)
your creativity and skill shine again sir. your vids are always great, thanks again!
Damn, cool door! And the wood is clear!
Great door.. Would be a great door to hang on a track.. Barn door style
Had to stop the video after 5 seconds...Hell of a shirt! I feel the same way...now back to the video!
the vertical design is that back to back
Could you make this same type door on an outside door of a play house ? I have a rough opening of 36 3/4 high and 47 3/4 wide and l want to make a double door. Your work is absolutely amazing and inspiring to a 70 year old lady....Thanks so much !
This looks great. I have 6 doors to build and I will probably copy this. It has been a while since you completed this, would you change anything and have you had any warping? Thank you!!!
Another awesome video thanks man hello from California
I love your video's. I've learned a lot watching you make the door.
Love your videos. So ingenious how you use plywood.
Thanks for the info John! Awesome job!👍👊
Admirable video!
10 seconds of watching I hit the thumbs up just for the shirt :)
terimakasih atas ilmunya pak 🙏🙏
I saw your shirt and instantly liked and subscribed lol
Thumbs up for the T-Shirt. Also, good video - why buy something if you can make it better.
I haven't watched more than 10 seconds, but I want to say " I LOVE YOUR SHIRT!!!!!!!!" OK let me get back to watching the tutorial haha
This summed up my '10 second in' comment... lol
I 100% agree! Lol, great shirt.
That makes a nice door. I will want a door like that for my workshop, to replace a door I'm taking out to use in my cabin I'm building.
I love your T-shirt.
I've built many applique type doors over the years. For interior doors I use MDF, it lays really flat and mills easily. It doesn't have a ply core to cover with trim or edge banding. I do recommend sanding down the cut edges of MDF before painting to achieve a smooth finish. For exterior doors never use MDF, instead MDO works quite well but you will need to treat the plywood core with some type of edging material. The next time I build an exterior door of MDO, I do plan to experiment with an epoxy type paint to treat the core. If someone has tried this before please let us know how it worked out for you, I'm very interested.
Hi Ken, do you think I can make the same door the same way John is doig here but use MDF? Doesn't the mdf need some sort of solid wood trim for the lock and the hinges to go on? Or is MDF strong enough by itself? Hope you can answer. Thanks in advance,
I would have liked to see the whole door when it was completed.
Always like to watch you work John, and a nice job at that!
This is absolutely great! thanks for the awesome vid!
Brilliant video mate. Love the detailed stuff
Very nice, and I love your “No one cares...” shirt!
Couldnt you have used the awl on one end of the jig and the drill bit on the other as locator pins . Drill down one long side then the other..no measurements needed?
Beautiful work!
+1 for the shirt. love it!
