Florence, Italy: Famous Dome and Bronze Doors - Rick Steves’ Europe Travel Guide - Travel Bite
Вставка
- Опубліковано 15 жов 2013
- Florence's landmark Duomo (cathedral) is crowned by Brunelleschi's majestic dome - the first Renaissance dome and the model for many domes to follow (climb it for a glorious view). Nearby the Baptistery features Ghiberti's magnificent bronze doors, which Michelangelo called the "gates of paradise." These creations help define the Renaissance, when Florence blossomed and classical arts were reborn. #ricksteveseurope #ricksteves #florence

Florence is the most beautiful place I've been to. It's utterly exquisite. Stepping into the past.
In person this is the most beautiful piece of architecture I've seen.
Its unreal what people can build !
Magnificent
Thank you Rick for many hours of viewing pleasure on PBS ☼
Thank you for posting these videos. in my estimation this is the high point of the renaissance but also of your many years in educating us about the wonderful sights and history of Florence, Tuscany and Italy.
Only Italians can achieve these kinds of feats. No other nation can match their imagination and creativity!!!
I've seen these in person. Some of the finest relief work in the world.
I was blown out.
I've seen the cathedral and the gates and god it's beautiful!
I climb this all the time in assassins creed 2 😆😆

I'm visiting Florence this summer. This video was amazingly well explained, I look forward to visiting soon!
So good information
can you tell me what kind of music in this video?
Never got a chance to go into the baptistery when I was there. I guess there was a lot more than what met the eye.
Really, world's beautiful doors
I was there with my family. When we got up there we almost fainted since it's a very tall structure!
Loved Florence. View from San Michaelangelo is magnificent

A few major mistakes. The facade of the Duomo is modern, 19th century. I'll have to say it is a pretty good one though. And the competition for the baptistery doors won by Ghiberti was not for the "Gates of Paradise" on the east side of the baptistery, but for the north doors which he completed much earlier in an different style, similar to Pisano's on the south door.
The doors were replicated by a Japanese man and 2 copies were made. One is on babtistry and the other is in Kansas City Fields museum.
Orașul Florența este un reper al turismului european.

Wow for a replica, the Gate of paradise at the Baptistry look great. But in comparison to original, these are laughable! Like a work of a good handyman vs total genius in Ghiberti!
Forced to look like a church
