But cure was really bad in kh1 compared to the newer games it was only single target and healed basically nothing. Even with curaga you'll never get fully healed at higher hp pools.

Donald and Goofy were invaluable in KH1. In fights were they were taken away from you (Hercules, Riku-Ansem etc) I felt so weak and helpless when I first played this game. Hell, in the original KH1, Goofy was so strong with his MP Rage and MP Gift, it was almost impossible to die, or to run out of MP. There is a good reason Goofy got nerfed in the FInal Mix releases. But hey, now he has Evolution which acts as a Mega-Potion AND Donald learn Leaf Bracer. Also, Donalds Magic spells got stronger, just like Soras. Unlike in KH2 were he is stuck with his default spells which are useless by the end game.

@Seron Lowell Honestly the nerfs to party members was one of the biggest reasons I couldnt get into KH2. Gameplay went from feeling like part of a team to feeling like everything was about Sora You always feel like Donald and Goofy have your back in KH1 so during segments where they become unavailable you really notice how much harder it is without your friends to support you. In KH2 though, there's a lot of points where they become unavailable and it doesn't really change anything. They cant really support you outside of a Donald Cure every minute or so, and you have no real way to support them, and when the AI bothers to attack all they can manage is chip damage so they cant even add meaningful DPS. All theyre really good for is to be absorbed for drive forms and then Final Mix threw that out with Limit Form which Sora can do alone
David Maxwell There not as powerful as they use to be(they can't kill bosses by themselves anymore) but there far from useless manly due to how powerful limits are, Donald's Limits are amazing for both mob fights and bosses, your invincible during them(you can use that to get through boss dms or out of desperation when your about to die) and they all do a lot of damage(especially Duck Flare), Goofy's limits kinda suck though, Knocksmash is okay but Whirl-Goof is just garbage and there's no reason to ever use it but you can still use Goofy as a potion and either dispenser

KH1 Donald is extremely quick on the ball with heals, because he has a ton of MP and thus can't waste it. Just remember to set things up in the customization menu for the two, and you can get him to rapidly heal you and Goofy to rapidly MP Gift you.

This brings back childhood memories. When I first played Kingdom Hearts I wasn't actually playing it, my sister got tired of me annoying her so she let me play on her 100% file. And by play I went around and killed all the heartless in a world. She checked behind me and if I missed a fight I would get scolded. Whenever we got to Coliseum. I only did up to Hercules. Accept for that one time.
After I had been playing for about a month. She forced me to do all of the tournaments. It was all good up until gold cup. Up until then I just got hard carried by goofy and Donald. I didn't know how to block at all. So beating a technical boss like Ice Titan was... Very Very Very Hard. I had to ask my sister what to do. She showed me how to block but even after then it still took me like 70 tries. Somewhere along the line I learned how to use Curaga. I was so happy when I beat him. I went and told her and she was like "good job! did yoy beat sephiroth yet?' and I was like "no..." and she was like go beat him and come back okay? And I went in there and... I got my fucking ass kicked. I could never find an opening and for some damn reason the only ability she had on was trinity but in Vanilla KH1 (and Im pretty sure final mix too) you can't use Trinity without donald and goofy. And I couldn't time my blocks properly or find out a way to land a hit because he always used those damn pillars. I would burn through my magic and then die. Eventually i gave up and told her I couldn't beat him and she told me a little inspirational story. About how it took her 50 tries and she never gave up and she was so happy she beat him and she told me to keep trying. I went back there and them lost and said I hate this. Then I was about to sneak to another world until I thought about what would happen if she caught me. So i went back there and tried some more. I got tired of losing so I stopped fighting him and just explored around the pause menu. I found her stash of like 20 elixir and I put them in, then I found the ability list but I don't remember activating anything. I went back and eventually I learned his pattern. And then he pulled out his *BALLS* shit got real i pulled through in 5 attempts and got him on his last bar. Then bitch used that let me steal all your magic and health attack. I tried to close in and stop him but it was too late and before I could use an Elixir (Still wasn't fluent with switching from pad to analog) he used his jump attack on me and I started crying. My sister let me stop. And then I never fought him again until I started my own save on the 1.5 for the Ps3 I beat him and I enjoyed it
I love this. I also want to say thank you for making these videos because so many people give Donald so much crap for being "useless" and "always dying." It's not his fault that people don't know how to play KH effectively or that the devs made everyone not named Sora useless in KH2. One of the reasons I love KH I so much, and above the other entries, is because your teammates actually feel as substantial as you. When they aren't present, it's noticeable (unlike in later installments).

And this is also before a finishing move was required to take a boss's last hit point. In KH2, Donald and Goofy couldn't do anything to a boss with one HP left. They could only defeat the common Heartless.

My dad bought me this game the day it came out. It was my first rpg. I didn't really know how to read all too well let alone understand the rpg elements and how they improved states and such. So I basically never equiped any items or new keyblades, fighting ansem as a child not knowing why you lost over and over again was very frustrating. Wish I knew that all I had to do was *NOTHING*
this is something I like in KH. Your friend actually do something and matter. in KH2. I feel like I am the world and everyone else is part of it. they're just there for me to change form or heal me.
My favorite part is that the last hit always has to come from Sora to win the boss fight, and I was genuinely like "how will", then Ansem flew right into Sora's Aeroga. Lol

Donald being unable to kill Ansem himself and putting Aero on Sora so that technically it counts as an attack from you is a crazy galaxy brain move by the AI.
Well, Goofy blocked and knocked-back Terranorts attack which was probably filled with as much darkness as he can possibly muster. Donald then went beyond Bahamut and annihilated the man with what's pretty much KH's version of a Kamehameha; a calamity level attack if it makes contact with Earth. If you think about it, it makes sense they could beat Ansem without the Keyblade Master

this is something I like in KH. Your friend actually do something and matter. in KH2. I feel like I am the world and everyone else is part of it. they're just there for me to change form or heal me.
My favorite part is that the last hit always has to come from Sora to win the boss fight, and I was genuinely like "how will", then Ansem flew right into Sora's Aeroga. Lol

This happened to me a few days ago I was on the last part of ansem boss fight goofy and Donald did all the work
Donald: Sora FOR GOD SAKES HELP US!!!

Well, Goofy blocked and knocked-back Terranorts attack which was probably filled with as much darkness as he can possibly muster.
Donald then went beyond Bahamut and annihilated the man with what's pretty much KH's version of a Kamehameha; a calamity level attack if it makes contact with Earth.
If you think about it, it makes sense they could beat Ansem without the Keyblade Master
that feeling when KH1 AI was the most useful out of every other game in the franchise
The phrase "my friends are my power" makes sense
Number one strategy on any Expert Mode: Let the NPCs do all the work.
